Truth Telling in Medicine
The viewpoints of L.J. Henderson, Sissela Bok, and Joseph Ellin on
the nature and importance of truthfulness in the physician-patient
relationship are examined in relation to various types of specific medical
situations. While the theoretical models of Henderson and Ellin would more
frequently justify deception by physicians for benevolent purposes, the author
thinks that their approach may appear to work simply because many patients
have been conditioned not to ask physicians confrontational questions. (KIE

Influenser: uma obra para comunicar e subverter
This research arises from analyzes of the creation process and experiences with the work Influenser, in order to question communication patterns in art. To this end, it analyzes the modes of scenic operation developed in Influenser, and proposes strategies for scenic interaction in dance that promote the public's protagonism, through the subversion of the relationship between spectator and author. Based on this perspective, the study emphasizes practice as a research method, using performative writing, by Ciane Fernandes (2013), and genetic criticism, by Cecília Salles (2011). Furthermore, the research builds epistemological-theoretical dialogues from the perspectives of Greiner (2005), Agamben (2009), Katz (2005; 2021), Rengel (2007; 2009; 2015), Rizzolatti e Sinigaglia (2008), Valeska Figueiredo (2010), Ribeiro e Teixeira (2009), Santos (2013), Canclini (2019), Recuero (2009) e Grieger e Botelho-Francisco (2019). The route taken showed that Influenser, through interaction, brings strategies for subverting the spectator-author relationship, questioning the place of passivity occupied by people not only in art, but also in social relations. Aracaj
Canal Oriented Development as an Urban Waterfront Development Mechanism
abstract: Canal oriented development (COD) is a placemaking concept that aims to create mixed use developments along canal banks using the image and utility of the waterfront as a natural attraction for social and economic activity. COD has the potential to for landlocked cities, which are lacking a traditional harbor, to pursue waterfront development which has become an important economic development source in the post-industrial city. This dissertation examines how COD as a placemaking technique can and has been used in creating urban development. This topic is analyzed via three separate yet interconnecting papers. The first paper explores the historical notion of canals as an urban economic development tool with particular attention paid to the Erie Canal. The second paper explores the feasibility of what it would take for canal development to occur in the Phoenix region. The third and final paper explores the importance of place in urban design and the success or nonsuccess of COD as a place maker through the examination of three different CODs.Dissertation/ThesisPh.D. Geography 201
Downtown Phoenix Rising: A Case Study of Two Organizations Building Social Capital for Urban Core Revitalization
abstract: This dissertation examines the way in which social capital, or productive networks, can be used to support downtown renewal. This case study examines the way in which Phoenix Community Alliance (PCA) and Downtown Phoenix Partnership (DPP)--two, critical downtown-focused organizations ostensibly founded for civic improvement--use social capital to advance downtown urban development initiatives. This case study also explores how and the extent to which new social capital is generated by PCA and DPP through the processes of planning, designing, and implementing downtown development projects and the kinds of initiatives this social capital enables, whether and how the focus of downtown Phoenix development has shifted over time, the challenges facing contemporary downtown development and role PCA and DPP might play in addressing these issues, and recommended strategies for advancing future downtown development through social capital that evolves as downtown needs change. This dissertation contributes to the general understanding of how pivotal groups responsible for impacting downtown development and quality of life can become more effective in their roles by examining how they create networks pivotal to advancing urban downtown renewal. Research findings illuminate how community development groups can more effectively use networks to inspire downtown improvement. Findings emphasize the need to engage a broader downtown community, including both emerging and established organizations and those who desire to contribute to a diverse and exciting heart or city core.Dissertation/ThesisPh.D. Public Administration 201
