Detecting rotational disorder in heme proteins: A comparison between resonance Raman spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, and circular dichroism
No full textIn heme proteins, the canonical and reversed conformations result from the rotation of the heme group by 180° about the α,γ‐meso axis in the protein pocket. The coexistence of the two different heme orientations has been observed both in proteins reconstituted with hemin and in some native proteins. The reversal of the heme orientation can also change certain functional properties of heme proteins. Complementing the results from other experimental techniques, like circular dichroism and nuclear magnetic resonance, resonance Raman spectroscopy provides detailed information on the structure of the reversed heme. This allows one to elucidate the effects of the heme rotation on the vibrational spectra of the peripheral substituents, especially the vinyl groups. Furthermore, the combination of resonance Raman spectroscopy on single crystals and solution samples of heme proteins is proposed to be a sensitive tool to detect heme orientational disorder, even in the absence of structural data

No full textL'objectif est de comparer le village de Lagrasse (Aude) avec celui de Cadaqués (Catalogne), en mettant en lumière leurs similitudes à travers des photographies du quotidien prises à Cadaqués. Bien que capturées dans un cadre différent de celui de Lagrasse, ces images illustrent des éléments que nous considérons comme caractéristiques des villages globaux, tels que définis précédemment (Milazzo 2015, 2016, 2018). Les spectateurs (habitants avertis comme touristes) sont ainsi invités à identifier des éléments semblables, au sein de Lagrasse, à l'aide d'une cartographie de localisation. Les photographies de Cadaqués proviennent de la thèse de doctorat de l'auteure, soutenue en 2018. Lagrasse constitue actuellement l'un de ses terrains de recherche (2023 - en cours). Ces photographies ont été exposées dans l'espace public du noyau villageois de Lagrasse, dans le cadre d'une invitation de l'Association Arts11220 de Lagrasse, pour le 2ème Festival de photographie de Lagrasse qui expose des artistes photographes inter/nationaux.Chaque affiche (7 au total) fait en format exposé 60 cm par 80 cm en portrait ou paysage

The Chetnik Movement and the Yugoslav Resistance
No full textOriginally published in 1975. This book fills a gap in the historical knowledge of wartime Yugoslavia. Focusing on the Chetnik movement provides a better understanding of the various ways that important segments of the population, including members of the Yugoslav officer corps and Serb civilians, perceived and responded to the occupation. The partisans' ultimate success does not conceal the fact that during the greater part of the war, several armed groups, owing at least some sort of allegiance to Mihailovic, chose very different courses of resistance. The overriding question for Milazzo is how a movement whose leadership was in no sense pro-Axis found itself progressively drawn into a hopelessly compromising set of relationships with the occupation authorities and the Quisling regime. What was it about the situation in occupied Yugoslavia and the Serb officers' response to that state of affairs that prevented them from carrying out serious anti-Axis activity or engaging in effective collaboration? The author attends to the emergence, organization, and failure of the Chetniks, the regional particularities of the movement, and Mihailovic's efforts to establish his own authority over the widely scattered non-Communist armed formations. The author also discusses the domestic opposition to Tito and the complex reality of the national and political civil war in Yugoslavia

Her research interests include the influence of media and popular culture on tourism in regards to personal and collective experiences.This research project is a content analysis which looks at Walt Disney World’s (WDW) social networking sites (SNS) to better understand online brand community as an integral facet of the post-pandemic tourism industry. Brand community speaks to emerging literature that is expanding the concept of what constitutes a 'community' and addresses the theme park's visitors who are active online but are may be geographically dispersed. The data collected reflects the ways, since the initial outbreak, WDW has engaged with its customers beyond consumers, but as fans and ambassadors, as well as, offers the guests' perspective on the attraction’s adaptions to the new social distancing policies as the pandemic has progressed. This work directs our scholarship towards what the future of tourism engagement might look like from mass tourism attractions, particularly as the world recons with an increasingly unstable future
