Identification and characterization of the acidic pH binding sites for growth regulatory ligands of low density lipoprotein receptor-related protein-1.
Impacts of land use and rainfall on the water quality of tributaries of Serin River, Sarawarak
Water quality of the tributaries could be affected by land use such as agricultural activities. Thus, a study was conducted to determine the water quality at the mouth of six tributaries of the Serin River from September 2009 to September 2010. The study shows that in February 2010, when there was no rain two days before sampling and when the water level was low, higher concentrations of ammoniacal-nitrogen, nitrite-nitrogen, nitrate-nitrogen and soluble reactive phosphorus than other months were observed. Furthermore, 92.7% and 93.6% of the inorganic nitrogen in Pam River and Bukah River were in the form of ammoniacal-nitrogen. Nitrate was significantly higher and occasionally dissolved oxygen was below 5 mg/L at Bujang River. TSS ranged from 2.0-84.4 mg/L with the highest value observed during rainfall event. At Pam River, reactive phosphorus and ammoniacal-nitrogen exceeded 0.2 mg/L and 0.3 mg/L respectively throughout the sampling period and 50% of the dissolved oxygen values were less than 3 mg/L. For Bukah River 50% of the measured dissolved oxygen were less than 5 mg/L and occasionally reactive phosphorus was more than 0.2 mg/L. BOD5 at all tributaries exceeded 3 mg/L and 60%, 50%, 44% and 40% of the readings at Bukah, Pam, Bukar and Penat exceeded 12 mg/L respectively. Both Pam and Bukah watershed have animal farming actvities. This study shows that land use affected the water quality and over the sampling period rainfall events and water level played an important role in the nutrient concentrations as some of the highest concentrations were observed during low water level when less dilution occurred though concentrations were also influenced by the timing of effluent outflow
Bacterial modelling of a rural tropical stream using the QUAL2K model
Previous studies showed that the Serin River and its tributaries water and sediment were contaminated with Escherichia coli (E. coli) due to human activities along the river. Since the water of this river is important as a source of drinking water, body contact recreation, laundry and fish culture, it is important that E. coli count be kept at a safe level for the health of the communities. Therefore, the objective of this study is to utilize the water quality model to simulate E. coli concentration in the river water for its designated use. The QUAL2K model was calibrated and validated using field data from October 2009 to March 2010. The results showed that 80% of the predicted concentrations fall in the range of the observed values. Subsequently, the model was applied to simulate two different scenarios of designated use. The model simulation results showed that for the river water to be suitable as drinking water, no E. coli should be discharged from the headwater and from Bukah tributary. As for the suitability of the river water for recreational purposes, the maximum allowable concentrations of E. coli for the headwater, and the following tributaries, namely, the Bukah River, Pam River and Bukar River were 400 CFU/100mL, 900 CFU/100mL, 1000 CFU/100mL and 380 CFU/100mL respectively during low water level. During high water level, the maximum allowable concentrations from those tributaries are higher than that during low level due to increased dilution

Istanbul University Library T.Y. transcription and content analysis of song magazine no. 03276
In this study, the "Şarkı Mecmuası" (Song Anthology), registered under the number T.Y. 03276 at Istanbul University, which is estimated to have been compiled in the second half of the 19th century, has been examined. The manuscript does not contain any information regarding its author. The study consists of three main sections. In the first section, the anthology is defined and classified, and general information about güfte mecmuası (lyrics anthologies) is provided. The second section analyzes the manuscript in terms of its "Content" and "Formal Characteristics," and addresses the principles followed in the examination of the text, including issues related to orthography and textual structure. To facilitate the use of the anthology, several tables regarding its content have been prepared. In the third section, the text has been transcribed from Ottoman Turkish into the modern Turkish alphabet. Furthermore, additional information not found in the manuscript but identified in sources such as the Divan Makam and Turkish Classical Music Notation Archive has been included in the footnotes and tables
Author correction: Clear and transparent nanocrystals for infrared-responsive carrier transfer
The original version of this Article omitted the fourth author Taizo Yoshinaga, who is from the 'Graduate School of Pure and Applied Sciences, University of Tsukuba, 1-1-1 Tennodai, Tsukuba, Japan'. Consequently, the third sentence of the Author Contributions, 'M.S. and M.K. synthesized the ITO NCs and ITO/semiconductor oxides' was revised to 'M.S., M.K. and T.Y. synthesized the ITO NCs and ITO/semiconductor oxides'. This has been corrected in both the PDF and HTML versions of the Article
