This book is based on functionary experience of Lin Ze-Xu, with the captivating plots of court case, helping by highly skilled military attach\uc3\ua9s and chivalrous knights, and the history facts of Opium War. It makes Lin Ze-Xu\ue2s Confucian temperament and tragic mood more, also contrasts with author\ue2s sorrow and furiousness for the politics at the time. History, court case, martial arts\ue2\ua6\ue2\ua6etc. are essence of this book and it broadens the way of this writing style.
The topic of the thesis is \ue2An Analysis of Judge Lin\ue2. The following thesis will be divided into six different chapters. The introduction is Chapter one of the thesis, which is including researching motive and purpose, literature review of predecessors, researching version by existing information, raising questions, choosing research methods and arranging chapters. In chapter Two, I discuss the study of characters of Lin Ze-Xu, also makes a deep analysis of author\u27s purpose of writing him. In chapter Three, I analyze supporting actors and actress. Meanwhile, I illustrate author\u27s purpose of writing supporting actress because the author had different manner to describe supporting actress. Moving to the Chapter Four, I mainly focus on the plots of Judge Lin, and organize cases of Lin Ze-Xu and his subordinates to understand features of cases. In Chapter Five, I represent the causes of Opium War. China and England had difference of opinions of opium. Therefore, it is easier to comprehend what the author\u27s purpose is. In the last chapter I summarize the main points of the preceding chapters and confirm particularity of Judge Lin

No full textThis thesis examines Lin Hsien-tang's life story that interprets one part of Taiwan's past and its history. Like a characteristic of area studies where the object‚ÄövÑvp of analysis was unstable as Taiwan,‚ÄövÑvp the thesis intersects with a range of scholarly fields: Taiwan Studies, Chinese Studies, history, life-writing, political sociology, sociology of education. The thesis uses Lin's story as a touchstone to tell the complexity of Taiwan's story. Lin Hsien-tang (1881-1956) was a socially responsible Taiwanese elite whose life traversed the Qing, Japanese and then Nationalist rule. The thesis highlights Lin's story through specific events in his life to illuminate Taiwan's changing circumstances across different periods. The thesis offered a detailed examination of Lin's politico-social and cultural life in a chronological order. Each chapter was fundamentally important in representing Lin's personal development across different periods of his life as well as Taiwan's story during these different authorities. Grounding on Lin Hsien-tang and Taiwan's stories, Michel De Certeau's notions of strategy of domination‚ÄövÑvp and tactics of resistance‚ÄövÑvp are introduced to offer an analytical mechanism to map out the conflicts, tension and cooperation between ethnicities, governments, countries, ideologies, and generations. It attempts to be attentive to Lin's political, social and cultural experience, and then to explore the evolving issues from which knowledge about Lin Hsien-tang and the broader of Taiwan has been produced

No full text林獻堂的《灌園先生日記》是台灣珍貴的私人資料，起自1927年，止於1955年，中間缺1928、1936年，前後長達29年，跨越日治時期、戰後國民政府兩個年代。日記中涵蓋經濟、政治、社會、文化、家族等活動資料；由於獻堂先生鉅細靡遺、不厭其煩地記錄每天發生在他身上的事，所以這部日記不僅是林獻堂一生最生最重要的見證，也是近代台灣史的縮影，史料研究價值極高。
由於霧峰林家在台灣史上的重要地位，過去對於獻堂先生的研究，大多著重於其政治、文化等公領域方面，較少碰觸他與家人互動、相處模式私領域這部分。本論文將以《灌園先生日記》為主，《林獻堂先生紀念集．遺著卷二〈環球遊記〉》中的各國旅遊經驗為輔，探討較少研究者關注的林獻堂家庭生活，並集中分析以下議題。
一、林獻堂與家人的互動如何？其所反映的婚姻觀及家庭倫理觀為何？
二、在父子環球旅遊、女兒婚姻和一新會相關活動中林獻堂與家人的互動反映
何種意義﹖其家庭曾出現那些風波又是如何化解﹖
三、林獻堂對於子女的教育觀念如何？他的性別觀念如何？面對中國傳統社會「女子無才便是德」的偏見，他如何在家庭與社會場域中加以改造？
四、與幾位關係密切的宗親比較，林獻堂與家人的互動有何特色？具備何種特質？
五、透過林獻堂家庭生活與親人互動個案探討，對台灣當代社會的家庭關係與倫理觀念，提供何種參考意義或省思價值？
論文共分五章，第一章緒論：說明研究動機、研究問題、先行研究回顧、研究範圍與章節安排及林獻堂家人生平概述。第二章：《灌園先生日記》中所見的家人互動與風波。第三章：《灌園先生日記》中所反映的家庭觀。第四章：從《灌園先生日記》相關記載比較獻堂與幾位族親的家人互動。第五章結論。The Diary of Lin Hsien-t’ang is one of valuably private historical information of Taiwan. The diary was written from 1927 to 1955 except 1928 and 1936 across the period from Taiwan ruled by Japanese to Republic of China. The contents of the diary included economic, political, social and cultural information and activities of his family at those time. Because he deliberately and patiently described the events of every day happened to him in the diary. So the diary was not only the most important recorded witness of his life but also an epitome of recent Taiwan history, which had high value about history information.
Lin family of Wufeng had highly important position on recent Taiwan history. The most historical researches about Mr. Lin were focused on his influences on the public issues such as policy and culture and seldom touched in his private regions for example the mutual interactions and responses among him and relatives in the past. And the research of the thesis was to investigate his family life and analyze the following titles about him largely and partly based on information of “The Diary of Lin Hsien-t’ang” and “Experience of Travelling around the World”, volume 2 of a posthumous book, in “A symposium of Lin Hsien-t’ang’s Memory” respectively:
1. How Lin responded with his relatives’ activities at normal condition in that time? , and from the clues of the responses what was his matrimony and family ethic concepts will be understood?
2. From the mutual responses of activities with his family when he travelled around the world, dealt daughter’s marriage, and participated in the movement of I-Shin Association can reflect what kind of connotation? What disturbances were appeared in his family, and how did he deal it?
3. What was his educational attitude on daughter and son, what was his concept of sex distinction? , Facing the prejudice, women should either possess endowment or virtue, of traditional Chinese society how would he make the advantage of the conditions of family meetings and social activities to revise the wrong concept.
4. Compared to his response to intimate clan, had what specific mutual response between he and his family? And the response had what kind of characteristics?
5. Through the investigation of Lin Hsien-t’ang family life and mutual response of communication between relatives, can it offer what reference meaning or introspection for the family relationship and ethic concept of modern society of Taiwan?
There were five chapters in the thesis. The first chapter was to describe the motivation and target of the research, the review of relative papers about Lin Hsien-t’ang, the scope the research, the arrangement of chapter and section of the thesis and the biographical sketch of the family of Lin Hsien-t’ang. The second chapter was to realize the mutual responses and disturbances derived from the activities among relatives which were described in The Diary of Lin Hsien-t’ang. The third chapter was to write the family concept of Lin Hsien-t’ang reflected from the content of The Diary of Lin Hsien-t’ang. The fourth chapter was to compare the differences of mutual responses between he and several persons of his clan based on the content of The Diary of Lin Hsien-t’ang. The fifth chapter was to make a conclusion of the research.目錄
