The first chapter is the research history of Lin Hai-yin\ue2s novel and theory of this thesis: Aesthetics of reception, narratology and Feminist Literary Criticism. In the second chapter we research Lin Hai-yin\ue2s personal history during the time of May Fourth. The May Fourth Spirit had affect her vision, but because her marginal perspective, which made her novel more objective and unique. The third chapter is the influence of May Fourth women\ue2s novel in Lin\ue2s. On the theme, subject matter, writing strategy, she followed these writer\ue2s strategy, but present more profound thoughts which different from them. In the fourth chapter we discuss the plot and characters of Lin\ue2s novel. The narrator in Lin\ue2s novel is usually a woman. Through these women\ue2s eyes, we saw a women\ue2s world that has solid sisterhood. Motion Regularization for matting motion blurred objects

    No full text
This paper addresses the problem of matting motion blurred objects from a single image. Existing single image matting methods are designed to extract static objects that have fractional pixel occupancy. This arises because the physical scene object has a finer resolution than the discrete image pixel and therefore only occupies a fraction of the pixel. For a motion blurred object, however, fractional pixel occupancy is attributed to the object's motion over the exposure period. While conventional matting techniques can be used to matte motion blurred objects, they are not formulated in a manner that considers the object's motion and tend to work only when the object is on a homogeneous background. We show how to obtain better alpha mattes by introducing a regularization term in the matting formulation to account for the object's motion. In addition, we outline a method for estimating local object motion based on local gradient statistics from the original image. For the sake of completeness, we also discuss how user markup can be used to denote the local direction in lieu of motion estimation. Improvements to alpha mattes computed with our regularization are demonstrated on a variety of examples

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

[[abstract]]Lin Hai-Yin is the founder of Taiwanese Children’s Literature with immense contribution in areas of composition, editing, and publication. In regarding composition, Memories of Peking: South Side Stories (1960) is undoubtedly her representative work. This autobiographic novel takes readers back to Lin Hai-Yin’s childhood memory in Peking. It describes the course of Ying-Zi, a little girl who lived in the south side of Peking during the age of 5 to 13. According to this, many scholars view the Memories of Peking: South Side Stories as a positive novel on growing up written for the purpose of describing female’s maturation process. A closer examination would further reveal that, while Ying-Zi is physically maturing, readers can also sense the author’s dream of going back to childhood’s utopia and rendering the novel a taste of anti-maturing. Through the novel, the discussion will attempt to depict the relationship between anti-maturing and childhood’s utopia. It will also uncover the subtle self reflection of the author in this novel, demonstrating children’s unwillingness leave their utopia and to enter and accept the rules of the adult world

From the first book “Ilex”, Lin Hai-yin published five collections of short stories from 1955 to 1965, which are "Green Seaweed and Salted Eggs," "My Memories of OldBeijing, " "the Story of Marriage," and "Gold Corp''s Pleated Shirt.", altogether 63 short stories. In addition to a nostalgic theme, Lin writes a few articles of orphan girls due to her own experiences of childhood. Lin is also concerned about women and their lives so she writes plaintive wives and concubines with varied social statuses oppressed in the old society. Lin further writes down the impact of the new ideological trend of the May Fourth Movement, and the situation of women before and after the war against Japan, and numerous problems of families in marriage. Lin witnessed a chaotic era, sudden changing societies and friendship and kindness of both sides of the Straits. Therefore, in her novels from the female perspective, readers can see that the lives of disadvantaged groups, and feel the conflicts between traditional culture and modern values. In her works, Lin reveals that women facing the transition of the times have been able to be self-awakening to seek their own right by the help of self idea and ability. Lin with her light touch shows her concern for the sufferings of women, and she gently points out the attitudes of life. In Lin’s novels, the awakening and identity of women’s consciousness manifests the concerns for the questions of women and their marriage lives. From Lin’s experience over women, we can see gender oppression and struggle that women can not set free from their traditional role. Lin further states that the new generation of women faces the difficulties and the predicaments in their love and marriage. In the aspect of awakening of women consciousness and self-realization, through the coordination of marriage, work and family, the exploration of gender relations and other topics, Lin presents the new self-image that women can grasp. Taking a broad view of Lin’s novels, readers can diversely find out the marriage families under a patriarchal system may result in frustration and embarrassment for modern women; however, in the process of the contradictions of customary marriage and new-type freedom to choose one''s spouse, Lin’s novels have injected such elements as women''s affection. This paper has stated research motive and purpose in an introduction, giving a further exploration of literature documents and materials and structuring this paper with chapters. The paper centers on Lin’s life and the essence of her creative literary works, exploring the issues of marriage, family and women; from Lin’s perspective, we may ponder over women''s consciousness.

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
