ROLE OF ISOVECTOR-ISOSCALAR COUPLING ON CHARGE RADIUS OF HEAVY AND SUPERHEAVY NUCLEI

    No full text
We have investigated the effect of the isovector-isoscalar coupling on the finite nuclei and nuclear matter properties, the neutron skin thickness of 208Pb, and the charge radius on heavy and superheavy nuclei calculated by the relativistic mean-field (RMF) model. In this work, we generates two parameter sets, i.e., PTE16 and PTE31. The numbers 16 and 31 denote the isovector-isoscalar coupling terms, while T and E denote the tensor coupling and electromagnetic exchange terms, respectively. We found that PTE16 and PTE31 are compatible with the constraints obtained by R. Essick, et al., arXiv: 2102.10074v1 [nucl-th] (2021). We also found that the increase of the isovector-isoscalar coupling terms gives a significant effect on the binding energy and the charge radius on heavy nuclei except for the charge radius of 208Pb. Increased of the isovector-isoscalar coupling terms make the values of charge radius prediction increase too, but vice versa for the neutron skin thickness and nuclear matter prediction. PTE31 yields symmetry energy J = 31.521 MeV, slope L = 57.643 MeV, and neutron skin thickness = 0.21419 fm. While the β2 correction (for deform nuclei) does not always give a significant effect on the charge radius

Storytelling, women's authority and the 'Old-Wife's Tale': 'The Story of the Bottle of Medicine'

    No full text
The focus of this article is a single personal narrative – a Shetland woman’s telling of a story about two girls on a journey to fetch a cure for a sick relative from a wise woman. The story is treated as a cultural document which offers the historian a conduit to a past that is respectful of indigenous woman-centred interpretations of how that past was experienced and understood. The ‘story of the bottle of medicine’ is more than a skilful telling of a local tale; it is a memory practice that provides a path to a deeper and more nuanced understanding of a culture. Applying perspectives from anthropology, oral history and narrative analysis, three sets of questions are addressed: the issue of authenticity; the significance of the narrative structure and storytelling strategies employed; and the nature of the female performance. Ultimately the article asks what this story can tell us about women’s interpretation of their own history

Netta Syrett’s Afterlife: From London to Hollywood

Although the words above, spoken by the actor Katharine Hepburn in A Woman Rebels, were the creation of two male screenwriters – Anthony Veiller (1903-1965), an American, and Ernest Vajda (1886-1954), a Hungarian emigré to America – the source text for this 1936 film was a 1929 novel by a British woman writer. That the novel in question, Portrait of a Rebel, proved popular and successful enough on both sides of the Atlantic to be of interest to RKO Radio Pictures, a Hollywood studio, seems astonishing now. Its author, Netta Syrett, was a member neither of the current generation nor even of the Edwardian or Georgian ones immediately preceding it, for she had been born in 1865 – thus, in the middle of the previous century – and was nearing the end of a long career. Her literary fame had been achieved first in The Yellow Book with her short story ‘Thy Heart’s Desire’ for the July 1894 issue (Volume II), followed by further contributions in October 1895 (Volume VII) and January 1897 (Volume XII). She had, nonetheless, remained both relevant and appealing to a wide swathe of the reading public. Just how she accomplished what so many of her contemporaries did not can only be a matter for speculation. One possibility, however, was through her close attention to expressions of taste communicated via the medium of reviews, as these became more readily available to authors at the turn of the twentieth century thanks to the rise of professional press-cutting services, to which she herself was a subscriber, as evidenced by the collection of materials sent to her by Romeike and Curtice

A compressor is a device that has a function to drain and add energy (pressure) to its working fluid, which in this case is a compressible fluid, namely compressed air. The compressed air system at PT Bintang Toedjoe site Cikarang is a compressor utility facility that supports critical support for the production operation of the effervescent line. This compressor is needed to supply pressurized air in a storage tank or storage tank and then flowed to the production process room using pipe installations and accessories so that the need for compressed air over a considerable distance can be flowed according to the needs of compressed air on the effervescent line user machine, namely the filling and packaging machine. The need for compressed air at PT Bintang Toedjoe is met by a rotary category positive displacement compressor in the form of a compressor in the form of a helical screw compression. Given the importance of improving the quality of this compressed air system, it is necessary to conduct an analysis of the compressor's capacity and working pressure to prevent and reduce the occurrence of drop pressure in the production of the effervescent line. From the calculation results, the required air capacity of 23.05 m3/min is obtained theoretically based on the consumption specifications of each user's machine. For the selection of compressors, it is a type of oil injected screw compressorKompresor adalah suatu alat yang memiliki fungsi untuk mengalirkan dan menambah energi (tekanan) pada fluida kerjanya yang dalam hal ini adalah fluida yang kompresibel yaitu udara bertekanan. Characteristics of composite materials have many advantages compared to other types of materials that are lightweight, strong, not affected by corrosion and able to compete with metals, without losing their mechanical characteristics and strength. This study aims to determine the effect of sintering time on the impact toughness and density of LDPE composites, PVC and used tire rubber. The materials used are packaging of drop bottles, water pipes and motorcycle tires for two-wheeled vehicles. The process of making specimens is carried out by the method of powder technology, namely by making powder, and filtering 60 mesh. Then the powder was mixed with a ratio of Rubber 70% LDPE 20% PVC 10%, and compressed with a pressure of 1,013 bar. Then sintered at 1700C. In this study the variation in sintering time is; 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes and 20 minutes. Impact testing uses the standard Charpy test equipment for polymer materials using ISO 197-1, and standard density testing using ASTM D1622. Surface of the test object photographed by SEM-EDS. The results of the composite study showed that the optimal sintering time to produce the best composite properties was 20 minutes. At 20 minutes sintering, the impact energy value data is 2.78 kJ / m2, which is directly proportional to the density value 0,58 g/cm3.Karakteristik material komposit mempunyai banyak kelebihan dibandingkan dengan jenis bahan lain yaitu ringan, kuat, tidak terpengaruh korosi dan mampu bersaing dengan logam, dengan tidak kehilangan karakteristik dan kekuatan mekanisnya.

    Radical Translation as Transvaluation

    No full text
Scholars of modern Jewish thought explore the hermeneutics of “translation” to describe the transference of concepts between discourses. I suggest a more radical approach – translation as transvaluation – is required. Eschewing modern tests of truth such as “the author would have accepted it” and “the author should have accepted it,” this radical form of translation is intentionally unfaithful to original meanings. However, it is not a reductionist reading or a liberating text. Instead, it is a persistent squabble depending on both source and translation for sustenance. Exploring this paradigm entails a review of three expositions of the Korah biblical narrative; three readings dedicated to keeping an eye on current events: (1) Tsene-rene (Prague, 1622), biblical prose; (2) Yaldei Yisrael Kodesh, (Tel Aviv, 1973), a secular Zionist reworking of Tsene-rene; and (3) The Jews are Coming (Israel, 2014–2017) a satirical television show

    Critique of Pure Movement

‘Pure movement is a movement that has no other connotations. It is not functional or pantomimic. Mechanical body actions like bending, straightening or rotating would qualify as pure movement providing the context was neutral.’ Trisha Brown’s statement brought together three New York choreographers and two New York philosophers for an evening that blended performative and speculative gestures that somehow felt both ordinary and alien to our contemporary sensibilities. Combining a short film, a dance solo with a sound work, a theoretical lecture, an improvised duet, and an open conversation, the evening was also a direct response to this true story: Someone once had the audacity to tell Martin Heidegger that he has to treat philosophy much more freely, more lightly, that one must dance with philosophy. At first, Heidegger didn’t say a thing. He only withdrew into himself and then murmured: ‘I really don’t know what philosophy has to do with dancing.‘ Daniel Colucciello Barber is the author of On Diaspora: Christianity, Religion, and Secularity (2011), and Deleuze and the Naming of God: Postsecularism and the Future of Immanence (forthcoming). As an ICI fellow he is working on a new book about instability and the logic of conversion. Zeynep Bulut is a researcher in the field of sound studies and experimental music and a fellow at the ICI. She has also composed and performed voice and sound pieces for concert, video, and theatre, which have been presented in the United States, Europe, and Turkey. Since 2008 he is a permanent ensemble member of Sasha Waltz & Guests. David Kishik is the author of Wittgenstein’s Form of Life (2008) and The Power of Life: Agamben and the Coming Politics (2012). He is also an ICI Fellow, and the translator of Agamben’s Nudities and What Is an Apparatus? He also sees dead people, particularly Walter Benjamin. Judith Sánchez Ruíz is a Cuban-born choreographer and dancer. She has performed for Trisha Brown, Deborah Hay, DD Dorvillier, and Sasha Waltz.
