Epitaxial crystallization of keV-ion-bombarded α quartz
In this article, our results on the epitaxial crystallization of ion-bombarded crystalline silicon dioxide (alpha quartz) are reviewed. The epitaxial recrystallization of amorphized layers was achieved after alkali irradiation and annealing in air in the temperature range 650-875 degreesC. The systematic behavior of alkali ions in enhancing the regrowth rate both with decreasing ion size and increasing concentration is shown. The role of oxygen in the recrystallization was investigated by means of nuclear reaction analysis, by performing thermal treatments of the samples in O-18. A large amount of O-18 diffuses inside the amorphous layer in the alkali-ion implanted samples at 600-800 degreesC. From the strong correlation between the migration of O-18 and implanted alkali, it was possible to gain further insights into the recrystallization mechanism. (C) 2001 American Institute of Physics

On Representations Of Affine Temperley-Lieb Algebras
. We study the finite-dimensional simple modules, over an algebraically closed field, of the affine Temperley--Lieb algebra corresponding to the affine Weyl group of type A. These turn out to be closely related to the simple modules for a certain q-analogue of the annular algebra of V.F.R. Jones. 1. Introduction The Temperley--Lieb algebra is a finite-dimensional algebra which was introduced in [6] and has been extensively studied in many papers, for example [7]. In [1], the author and C.K. Fan introduced a diagram calculus for the "affine" Temperley--Lieb algebra, an infinite-dimensional algebra which is related to affine Weyl group W ( b A l ) of type A in the same way as the (ordinary) Temperley--Lieb algebras are related to the group algebras of the symmetric groups. One would like to be able to classify the finite-dimensional irreducible representations for this algebra, partly because this gives irreducible representations of the affine Hecke algebra H( b A l ) and of the corres..
The Brascamp–Lieb inequalities: recent developments
summary:We discuss recent progress on issues surrounding the Brascamp–Lieb inequalities
Compact localised states in magnonic Lieb lattices
Lieb lattice is one of the simplest bipartite lattices where compact
localized states (CLS) are observed. This type of localisation is induced by
the peculiar topology of the unit cell, where the modes are localized only on
one sublattice due to the destructive interference of partial waves. The CLS
exist in the absence of defects and are associated with the flat bands in the
dispersion relation. The Lieb lattices were successfully implemented as optical
lattices or photonic crystals. This work demonstrates the possibility of
magnonic Lieb lattice realization where the flat bands and CLS can be observed
in the planar structure of sub-micron in-plane sizes. Using forward volume
configuration, we investigated numerically (using the finite element method)
the Ga-dopped YIG layer with cylindrical inclusions (without Ga content)
arranged in a Lieb lattice of the period 250 nm. We tailored the structure to
observe, for the few lowest magnonic bands, the oscillatory and evanescent spin
waves in inclusions and matrix, respectively. Such a design reproduces the Lieb
lattice of nodes (inclusions) coupled to each other by the matrix with the CLS
in flat bands

Quantum Brascamp-Lieb Dualities
Brascamp-Lieb inequalities are entropy inequalities which have a dual
formulation as generalized Young inequalities. In this work, we introduce a
fully quantum version of this duality, relating quantum relative entropy
inequalities to matrix exponential inequalities of Young type. We demonstrate
this novel duality by means of examples from quantum information theory --
including entropic uncertainty relations, strong data-processing inequalities,
super-additivity inequalities, and many more. As an application we find novel
uncertainty relations for Gaussian quantum operations that can be interpreted
as quantum duals of the well-known family of `geometric' Brascamp-Lieb
inequalities.Comment: v3: 24 pages, minor changes, to appear in Commun. Math. Phy
Interface mixing in Ni3N SiX bilayers induced by swift heavy ions
In order to investigate the swift heavy-ion-induced mixing of nitride coatings we have irradiated Ni3N films on SiO2-, Si3N4-, SiC- and Si-substrates with Ar, Kr, Xe and An ions of energies ranging from 90 to 350 MeV, for which electronic energy loss dominates. The Ni-concentration profiles at the interfaces before and after irradiation were determined by means of Rutherford backscattering spectrometry with 900 keV He2+ ions. In all the cases, strong mixing occurred as soon as a material-dependent threshold S-ec in the electronic stopping power S-e was exceeded. The mixing rate exhibits a squared scaling k = Deltasigma(2)/Phi = eta(2) (S-e - S-ec)(2) and estimation of the effective diffusion constant indicates interdiffusion in molten ion tracks. The threshold value S-ec depends on the substrate material and seems to be determined by its melting point and specific heat. (C) 2003 Published by Elsevier Ltd
