Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Distributed Recommender Profiling and Selection with Gittins Indices
Most existing recommender systems nowadays operate in a single organizational base, and very often they do not have sufficient resources to be used in order to generate quality recommendations. Therefore, it would be beneficial if recommender systems of different organizations can cooperate together to share their resources and recommendations. In this paper, we present a distributed recommender system model that consists of multiple recommender systems from different organizations. With the hope to provide better recommendation service to users, the recommender systems can improve their performances by sharing their recommendations cooperatively. A recommender selection technique based on the Gittins indices is presented in this paper, and it makes selections based on the stability, average performance and selection frequency of the recommenders

Nieobyczajny wybryk (art. 140 k.w.)
The author analyzes the issues related to the offense of the indecent excess, defined in Art. 140 of the Offense Code. The narrative runs through the issues of: the object – protection, assassination – which is morality and decency in the public perspective and the public order; forms of committing of the offense – it is universal nature and may take the form of an action. The considered offense does not have to be implemented “directly” in the public space, it is enough for the occurrence of the indecent excess, that it could be noticed by other people. Indecent excess does not have to be a behavior that violates shamefulness, exposing publicly intimate or obscene sexual behavior, but it can also violate decency in other ways. An indecent excess may be carried out intentionally or unintentionally. Article 140 of the Offense Code typifying the analyzed offense may occur – from the point of view of legal qualification – in the coincidence (apparent or real) with specific provisions listing specific crimes or offenses.Autor podejmuje analizę kwestii związanych z wykroczeniem nieobyczajnego wybryku, który określony został w art. 140 k.w. Nieobyczajny wybryk nie musi za każdym razem mieć charakteru zachowania naruszającego wstydliwość, eksponującego publicznie intymne lub obsceniczne zachowania seksualne, lecz może naruszać obyczajność również na inne sposoby. Nieobyczajny wybryk może być w zakresie strony podmiotowej zrealizowany umyślnie albo nieumyślnie. Nonselective Cation Channels Activated by the Stimulation of Muscarinic Receptors in Mammalian Gastric Smooth Muscle
Muscarinic receptors play key roles in the control of gastrointestinal smooth muscle activity. However, specific physiological functions of each subtype remain to be determined. Single cell RT-PCR experiments showed that all five subtypes of muscarinic receptors were present in circular smooth muscle cells of the guinea-pig gastric antrum. Nonselective cation channels (NSCC) activated by ACh or CCh are coupled to pertussis toxin (PTX)-sensitive Go protein through m4 subtype as well as m2 and m3 subtypes in guinea-pig stomach. CCh-activated currents (ICCh), especially the steady-state I-V relationship of ICCh showed a chracteristic U-shaped curve; reversal potential of around 0 mV and inward rectification at around +15 mV and a negative slope conductance at negative potential range. Under physiological conditions, the measured single channel conductance of NSCC was approximately 25 pS. The single channel conductance was modulated by external monovalent and divalent cations including Na+, Cs+, Li+, and Ca2+ through changing both the open probability and unitary conductance. Through the NSCC, Ca2+ can move into the cell from extracellular solution as well as Na+. Calculated fractional Ca 2+ current of ICCh (fCa) was around 1% at the 2 mM [Ca2+]o and at the 4 mM [Ca2+] o, fCa was 2.3%. Quinidine blocked ICCh potently in a reversible manner; IC50 was 0.25 μM. There were two kinds of ICCh modulations through Ca2+-dependent pathways in guinea-pig gastric smooth muscle cells; 1) Facilitation of ICCh via Ca2+/CaM-dependent MLCK pathway, 2) Desensitization of I CCh via Ca2+-dependent PKC pathway. In the mouse stomach, all seven types of TRPC mRNA were detected with RT-PCR. On the basis of electrophysiological, pharmacological, and molecular biological experiments, we reported the mTRPC5 as a candidate for the NSCC activated by muscarinic stimulation in mouse stomach.N

With the advancement of mobile Internet, mobile devices are also used for many conventional PC based Internet applications. One such example is downloading games. Downloading mobile games via mobile device seems to be one of the more favorite activities for many mobile devices today. However, users may have different preferences in what genres of games they will be more interested in at different time of the day. In this paper, a personalised mobile game recommendation system which takes into consideration the time-of-day and time-of-week is used to provide a more personalised experience. From the data collected, it can be seen that at different time periods users may download different games and from different game genres
Look Beyond Textbooks: Information Literacy for First-Year Science Students
This paper describes classroom activities to help students understand the publication cycle and the characteristics of major publication channels (textbooks, books, encyclopedias, and periodicals) for first-year physics students. When designing these activities, the author considered the intellectual development characteristics and the epistemological view of first-year students. These activities help students appreciate how information is refined and repackaged along the publication cycle. Through understanding the varieties of information sources, they learn how to choose the appropriate sources to meet their information needs. Although the activities were created for physics students, they can easily be modified for students in other fields of study. © 2011, Gabrielle K.W. Wong
