Background: There is limited published information about the management of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) hospitalised for acute suicidal ideation (SI). This study aimed to identify treatment patterns and unmet needs in the management of these patients and the decision drivers for hospital discharge. Methods: Cross-sectional survey-based study enrolling hospital-based European psychiatrists. The study had a qualitative and a quantitative stage, including a conjoint exercise. Results: Each respondent (N = 413) managed, on average, 62 MDD patients with acute SI per typical three-month period; 76% of these patients required hospitalisation. Severity of SI and severity of MDD were considered the most important factors for hospital admission and discharge. In the conjoint analysis, these attributes accounted for 54% of the discharge decision. Key treatment goals included improving depressive symptoms and achieving MDD remission. Antidepressants were a standard treatment for 98% of respondents but 63% defined rapid onset of action as a critical unmet need, followed by a good tolerability profile (34%). Limitations: The study has a cross-sectional design representing respondents' behaviour and attitudes at a particular point in time. In the conjoint analysis, the results represent stated behaviour and not observed clinical behaviour. Conclusions: Physicians' decisions to admit and discharge patients with MDD hospitalised for acute SI are mostly driven by the severity of SI and depression. Antidepressants with rapid onset of action, which can quickly improve depressive symptoms, represent a key unmet need for these patients and may contribute to a higher likelihood of early discharge

In diesem Zusammenhang wurden die Resilienzskala 25 (Wagnild & Young, 1993), Fußball Mental Fragebogen (Pešička & Lewitzka, unveröffentlicht), Sheehan Suicidality Tracking Scale (Sheehan et al., 2014b) und der WHO – Quality of Life Questionnaire (WHO, 2004) benutzt. This belief may stem from the tendency of the general population to idealize athletes’ well-being, thereby making discussions about professional athletes psychological disorders taboo. (Bär & Markser, 2013). However, Claussen et al. (2015) report that the prevalence rates of mental disorders in competitive sports are similar to those in the general population. While other studies have suggested that mental disorders may be even more prevalent among professional athletes than compared to the general population (Gouttebarge et al., 2015a). As a part of this study, quantitative and qualitative data collection was carried out to gain new insights into a possible suicide risk in the Bundesliga. For this purpose, all clubs in the first German Football Bundesliga for the 2021/22 season were contacted and asked to participate. In the first phase of the study, Bundesliga and U-19 players from the same clubs (N = 50) were recruited to participate in an online survey for quantitative data collection. The survey leveraged several questionnaires, which included: the Resilience Scale 25 (Wagnild & Young, 1993), the Soccer Mental Questionnaire (Pešička & Lewitzka, unpublished), Sheehan Suicidality Tracking Scale (Sheehan et al., 2014b), and the WHO - Quality of Life Questionnaire (WHO, 2004). The resulting data from the quantitative survey was then descriptively analyzed for trends. Which indicated that professional players might be more vulnerable to suicidality than U-19 youth players. Moreover, that a higher number of professional players reported having had suicidal thoughts compared to junior counterparts. In the second part of this study, qualitative data collection was carried out using expert interviews. For this purpose, (N = 15) sports psychologists from the Bundesliga clubs were interviewed about the topic of this study using a structured interview. The results of the qualitative research method were, for example, the lack of internal amounts or prevalence rates of suicides and the lack of a suicide prevention structure, even though at the same time, it is assumed that there are soccer professionals at risk of suicide. Furthermore, player position, stigmatization, and the low prioritization of mental health were noted as suicide risk factors in the Bundesliga. These results should encourage Bundesliga clubs in the future to entrust professionals to help in addressing mental strength, psychological distress, and suicidality, and to implement education and prevention initiatives.:Inhaltsverzeichnis 1 Einleitung 1 1.1 Definitionen suizidalen Verhaltens 5 1.2 Mentale Stärke im Sport 8 1.3 Resilienz 10 1.4 Geschichte des Suizides 10 1.5 Ätiologie des suizidalen Verhaltens 12 1.5.1 Psychoanalytischer Ansatz 12 1.5.2 Kognitiv – behavioraler Ansatz 14 1.5.3 Biologischer Ansatz 18 1.6 Epidemiologie 21 1.6.1 Epidemiologie in der Allgemeinbevölkerung 21 1.6.2 Suizidrisikofaktoren der Allgemeinbevölkerung 25 1.6.3 Suizidmethoden 28 1.6.4 Auswirkungen der Corona - Pandemie auf die Bundesliga und die Allgemeinbevölkerung 30 1.6.5 Der Werther - Effekt 32 1.6.6 Der Papageno Effekt 35 1.6.7 Epidemiologie von Suizidalität bei Fußballern und professionellen Sporttreibenden 36 1.6.8 Suizidrisikoabschätzung bei professionellen Fußballer*innen 41 1.6.9 Vergangene Suizide und Suizidversuche im Profifußball 44 2 Methoden 56 2.1 Methoden der quantitativen Datenerhebung 56 2.1.1 Ziele und Hypothesen der quantitativen Datenerhebung 56 2.1.3 Messinstrumente der quantitativen Datenerhebung 60 Resilienzskala 25 61 Fußball Mental Fragebogen 61 Sheehan Suicidality Tracking Scale 62 WHO Quality of Life Questionnaire -BREF 63 2.1.4 Statistische Analysemethoden 64 2.2 Methoden der qualitativen Datenerhebung 65 2.2.1 Ziele und Hypothesen der qualitativen Datenerhebung 65 2.2.2 Versuchsplan und Durchführung der qualitativen Datenerhebung 66 2.2.3 Hilfsmittel und Materialien 67 Strukturiertes Interview 67 Diktiergerät 69 Stativ 69 2.2.4 Transkription und qualitative Datenanalyse 69 3 Ergebnisse 71 3.1 Ergebnisse der quantitativen Datenerhebung 71 3.1.1 Stichprobe der quantitativen Datenerhebung 71 3.1.2 Suizidalität und Suizidgedanken 73 3.1.3 Verteilung der Rohwerte 74 3.1.4 Itemanalyse – Trennschärfen und Itemschwierigkeiten 75 3.1.5 Skalenanalyse – Reliabilitäten und Skaleninterkorrelationen 76 3.1.6 Validitätsprüfung 77 3.1.7 Mann-Whitney-U Tests 78 3.2 Ergebnisse der qualitativen Datenerhebung 79 3.2.1 Resilienz 80 3.2.2 Mentale Stärke 83 3.3.3 Suizidalität 85 3.4.4 Lebenszufriedenheit 91 4 Diskussion 94 4.1 Diskussion der quantitativen Datenerhebung 95 4.2 Diskussion der qualitativen Datenerhebung 98 4.3 Stärken und Limitationen der quantitativen Datenerhebung 117 4.4 Stärken und Limitationen der qualitativen Datenerhebung 119 5 Implikationen und Ausblick 122 Literaturverzeichnis 129 Abbildungsverzeichnis 158 Tabellenverzeichnis 159 Abkürzungsverzeichnis 160 6 Anhang 163 Danksagung 19

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
