Massekhet Keritot. Text, Translation and Commentary. A Feminist Commentary on the Babylonian Talmud
The tractate Keritot of the Babylonian Talmud belongs to the Order of Qodashim in the Mishnah. It discusses the Temple and its rituals, especially sacrifices, but deals mostly with laws of incest, sexual transgressions, childbirth, and miscarriages. In this commentary, Federico Dal Bo provides a historical, philological and philosophical investigation on these gender issues. He discusses almost the entire tractate, referring to many other sources, Jewish (the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Sifra, and other rabbinic texts) as well as non-Jewish (Akkadian, Hittite, and Ugaritic). The author also provides accurate philological observations both on the Mishnah and the Gemara. Finally, he addresses gender issues by combining a reductionistic approach to Talmudic study (the so called "Brisker method") with philosophical deconstruction. Dal Bo shows that in nearly the entire tractate Keritot the rabbis discuss human sexuality in a tendentious and restrictive way, claiming that heterosexuality is the only proper sexual contact and progressively stigmatizing any other kind of sexual behavior
Print, Power, and Cultural Hegemony. A Material History of Early Hebrew Prints
Federico Dal Bo examines the design of early Hebrew books from the late fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, focusing not only on the words in these early books but also on how they were arranged on the page. He follows in the tradition of scholars such as Christopher de Hamel, Marvin J. Heller, and David Stern, who have explored the importance of these Hebrew books in influencing Jewish learning and attracting the interest of Christians.
The author discusses important prints, such as the first Talmud and rabbinical bibles, which marked a shift from being for Jewish readers only to being for both Jews and Christians. The collaboration between Jewish editors and Christian printers changed the way these books looked and the audience for whom they were intended. At first, these early prints copied the style of handwritten Hebrew manuscripts. The simple layout could be difficult to read, especially for long books like the Bible or Talmud. But over time, influenced by the humanism of the Italian Renaissance, the layout became more complex. The book also looks at how the layout changed from full-page commentaries to a more complicated design in which the main text and commentaries shared the same page. This shift challenged the idea of who was the primary author and emphasized the role of editors. The layout, with the main text in the center and the commentaries on the sides, created a kind of unwritten rule for how to read religious texts. Dal Bo's study also includes new information about a 1553 trial in which the Talmud was burned. Overall, it explores how the layout of these early Hebrew books shaped cultural power and influenced how people read
EROI DI CARTA.Il caso “Gomorra” e altre epopee
The book “Gomorra” by Roberto Saviano represents one of the most interesting cases of contemporary literary hits at a global level. Sold in millions of copies in many languages, the book owes its notoriety to the author's hero role, inasmuch – according to the common opinion – he was threatened to be killed by the camorra. Therefore the book is considered a first hand account of the criminal reality of Naples and at the same time a biographical narrative, a journey of the young hero in the abysses of crime and a witnessing of hope and redemption.
Starting from the perspective of semiotics and sociology of literature, the book by Alessandro Dal Lago is a critical analysis of both the book and the role of national hero played by its author. From a literary point of view, “Gomorra” appears to shift ambiguously between fiction and non-fiction. If, according to the recent tendencies of Italian “epic” novelists, the fictional side glamorizes the account of squalid street crimes, drug selling and other unlawful activities, the non-fictional side legitimates the truth of such account, with the result to transform the book into a “revelation” of the dark side of Naples life.
At the same time, the “making” of the hero (realized by newspapers, political authorities and so on) represents a national (and international) solace in front of the stable and growing power of organized crime in Italy. In other words, the epic of “Gomorra” and its author is a contemporary myth built with the contribution of several actors. Dal Lago’s book is one of the first attempts, at least in Italy, to look in depth at the role of bestsellers in the shaping of contemporary culture
Video "Visitatori".
"Visitors" is the title of a video and fifteen digital works conceived and created by Dal Falco. For the video he curated the animation with the author Daniele Spanò, while the music is by Fabio Recchia.
In the last years, Dal Falco has collected a vast archive of images, photographing surfaces of materials to which it draws to create videos and digital works. His research is inspired by the metamorphosis of matter and the stratification of signs, identifying over time the great weaver of memories.
The project, a video and fifteen digital images, was born following a trip to Egypt and the idea of representing the coexistence between Western and Muslim culture through the emergence of images of people of different origins who visited the ruins of Luxor in an extended period of time. In the video, visitors, taken from postcards and photographs found on the site, emerge from a wall engraved with hieroglyphs revived by the passage of flying carpets, and then again sucked into the stone that preserves the memory and traces of their passage
In order to observe how the question “who is the subject of rights in the international community” was answered, focusing on the contrasts between Nation and State, the present study investigated the thought of Pasquale Stanislao Mancini, describing how, using the Principle of Nationality as the basis of international law, the Italian jurist proposes the exclusivity of the Nation as a subject of international law in opposition to the State and how it influenced the authors of the Italian school of international law, especially Terenzio Mamiami and Pasquale Fiore. Hereafter, enter in the Brazilian doctrine of the second half of the nineteenth century to verify how occurred the opposition between the concepts of Nation and State. Posteriorly, looking at the thought of Lafayette Rodrigues Pereira and Clóvis Beviláqua, we seek to demonstrate how the problem of international juridical subjectivity was treated in Brazil during the early twentieth century. Finally, we verify which term was mostly adopted by Brazilian doctrine, until find a national author who no longer defends the exclusivity of a political entity in specific, but, aware of different historical settings of the international community, accepts a plurality of subjects. We also try throughout the study to highlight the continuities and changes between the various authors analyzed, and to propose, as appropriate, critical to the concepts presented
A Comparative Analysis of an East Sakhalin Ainu folktale collected by Bronisław Piłsudski
This contribution presents a linguistic analysis of an East Sakhalin Ainu folktale collected by Bronisław Piłsudski in 1903. The author bases their analysis on two different versions of the text, which Piłsudski compiled himself using a cyrillic-script-based and a latin-script-based transcription for Ainu. Taking into account two versions of the folktale where different scripts are used proves insightful with regards to phonetics and phonology and, thanks to Piłsudski’s painstakingly accurate transcription, allows for investigation despite the lack of a backup audio recording. Starting from Piłsudski’s originals, the author provides a re-transliteration of the text, following modern standard conventions for Ainu, and a morphemic analysis. A discussion of the most salient grammatical aspects of the informant’s language fol-lows and a comparison with neighboring West Sakhalin Ainu dialects is drawn
A Short Introduction to Implicit Computational Complexity
These lecture notes are meant to serve as a short introduction to implicit computational complexity for those students who have little or no knowledge of recursion theory and proof theory. They have been obtained by enriching and polishing a set of notes the author wrote for a course (on the same subject) he gave at ESSLLI 2010. These notes are definitely not meant to be comprehensive nor exhaustive, but on the other hand much effort has been done to keep them self-contained
Copyright, contratto e accesso alla conoscenza: un’analisi comparata = Copyright, contract and access to knowledge: a comparative analysis.
= ENGLISH VERSION = Along with a comparative perspective that takes account of the U.S. and Italian law, this work aims to explore the interface between copyright and contract lae in publishing process.
In the current publishing environment, contracts and technology play a dominant role in the exploitation of copyrighted works. Publishers are granted by assignment of all copyright rights to reproduce and publish the work, but also to exercise control over its contents through technological protection measures. At the same time, mass digitization allows libraries and other organizations to make contents available online, which it entails a redefinition of the traditional publishing process and introduces new players to the scene (e.g., Google Books).
Hence, technology proves to be a powerful instrument for the spread of knowledge and it is on this pattern that Open Access (OA) is rapidly gaining ground.
Mostly based on a bottom-up approach that is on soft law, institutional policies and contracts, OA designs a new legal environment targeting the objectives of free accessibility, further distribution, and proper archiving of publications. These aims can be achieved through the creation of new open access business models to publish on OA journals (gold road) or to self-archive in institutional or disciplinary repositories works that have been originally published in conventional journals (green road).
However, in order for OA to be fully developed it is necessary to devise a principled and feasible approach to the dissemination of scholarly works against the current social, economic and legal background.
Indeed, the importance of OA is steadily recognized by legislators who integrate OA provisions into their legal system. This is an innovation of great significance, which was first fostered in the USA, and then extended in some European countries such as Italy and Germany in the European framework. Nevertheless, considering the different law systems, the formal law need to be combined with national strategies and institutional policies providing adequate incentives to the authors, while also promoting academic freedom and the right to knowledge access

Metallo bianco
Metallo bianco “Prodotti e applicazioni”.
Architettura Design Moda, Rdesignpress, Roma 2014 e in altre pubblicazioni scientifiche (do.co.mo.mo. giornale, Imprese edili) dell’autrice.
“Products and applications” In the Italy of the '30s, the production of metals underwent a strong impulse and at the same time a specific technical literature developed. In particular, Aluminum and its alloys are presented in the main specialized magazines as symbols of modernity. Their applications, also as a result of self-construction, constitute an important "stratification" of material culture that in addition to architecture includes emblematic and commonly used artifacts. The cold qualities of white metals, often coupled with innovative types of glass, have consistently expressed the modernist aesthetic, corresponding to the needs of abstraction and artificiality of the figurative languages and becoming one of the constants of the constructive and morphological characteristics of the Italian building heritage. The essay returns, through a research on the technical literature of the time and on the main specialized magazines, an overview of the main products and applications of white metals in architecture and design.
The contribution “Authors and works” describes some exemplary applications of white metals from architecture to design. Aluminum alloys, considered at the time one of the most appropriate responses to the natural evolution of taste, have been used to create constructive details and furnishings of significant architeture and design of Italian Rationalism.
The contribution “Conservation techniques” - which explores the issues related to the maintenance and restoration of materials produced or worked in Italy during the 1930s during economic autarky - is in continuity with the studies and publications conducted by Dal Falco starting from his PhD thesis in Technology dell'Architettura (1993, Innovative materials in the architecture of Italian rationalism: aluminum alloys and glass products Technologies, maintenance, restoration) pursued with the CNR research of 1994 (Repertory of building materials and innovative technical solutions in the decade 1930- 1940) and in the research carried out for the Project finalized Beni Culturali CNR 1197-2001 (Restoration of the architecture of the modern movement - Case study: the railway stations of Angiolo Mazzoni, Prof. L. Cupelloni scientific manager). This theme is included in the volume: F. Dal Falco, Styles of Rationalism. Anatomy of fourteen works of Italian rationalism, with writings by A.A.V.V., Gangemi, Roma 2002, in the book F. Dal Falco, Autarchic Products. Architecture Design Fashion, Rdesignpress, Rome 2014 and other scientific publications (do.co.mo.mo. newspaper, Building contractors) of the author.
The contibution “Project and restoration” investigates the issues concerning the protection and restoration of systems of objects and architectural details made of white metal, questioning the methodologies and the complexity of the different practices: maintenance, restoration, musealization, refunctionalization, re-editions. The bibliography, attached is from p. 442 on p. 443
