Some forgotten equilibria of the Bertrand duopoly!?

    No full text
This note analyzes the Bertrand duopoly with constant but asymmetric marginal costs on a market with homogenous products. It is shown that there exist some equilibria that are ignored in the literature on IO. In addition, in this setting (perfectly or nearly perfectly) competitive equilibria exist.

Heterogeneous Behavioral Rules in the Oligopolistic Case

    No full text
In a static symmetric duopoly the set of behavioral rules is extended to different types of markup pricing. Using an equilibrium concept suggested in Pasche (2001), it is shown that dependend on the markup neither pure Cournot nor pure Bertrand behavior is a behavioral equilibrium profile. Instead, there is a rationale for the usage of simple heuristics. The presence of markup rules leads to Stackelberg outcomes. Furthermore, pure markup behavior is more competitive than in Cournot case but less competitive than in Bertrand case. It is shown, that multiple behavioral equilibria and heterogeneous behavior may arise, where at least one player uses price setting strategies.oligopoly, markup rules, heterogeneity, behavioral equilibrium.

    A Bertrand-Edgeworth-oligopóliumok (Bertrand-Edgeworth oligopolies – a survey of the literature)

    No full text
Az irodalomban az olyan oligopolmodellek, amelyekben mind az ár, mind a mennyiség döntési változó, Bertrand-Edgeworth-oligopóliumok néven ismertek. E tanulmányban a Bertrand-Edgeworth-oligopóliumokkal kapcsolatos érdekesebb eredményeket tekintjük át. Tárgyaljuk a Bertrand-Edgeworth-típusú oligopolmodellek specifikációját, a Nash-egyensúly létezését, a Nash-egyensúly meghatározását és a Bertrand-Edgeworth-oligopóliumok alkalmazásait. / === / Oligopoly models in which both price and quantity are decisive variables are known in the literature as Bertrand-Edgeworth oligopolies, the most interesting results with which are surveyed in this paper. The author assumes the existence of the Nash equilibrium, as the specification of Bertrand-Edgeworth-type oligopoly models, the determination of the Nash equilibrium, and the application of Bertrand-Edgeworth oligopolies

Le gisement paléolithique moyen de Zăbrani (Département d’Arad)

The half of the raw material knapped in the open air site of Zăbrani dated in the Last Early Glacial is represented by the quartzite in spite of the presence of other raw materials. The majority of the flake-tools are in quartzite. The analysis of the reducing sequences according to the different raw materials gives informations concerning the use of the quartzite (debitage, blanks, end-products).În aşezarea în aer liber de la Zăbrani (Banat, România), varietatea materiilor prime este mare, iar cuarţitul reprezintă jumătate din acestea. Pentru confecţionarea uneltelor a fost ales tot cuarţitul. Analiza lanţurilor operaţionale permite o mai bună înţelegere a folosirii cuarţitului (debitaj, suporturi, produse finite).Tuffreau Alain, Boroneanţ Vasile, Goval Émilie, Lefevre Bertrand, Boroneanţ Adina, Doboş Adrian, Popescu Gabriel. Il saggio prende in esame le origini del liberalsocialismo di Bertrand Russell. Afferma che tutte le tesi maggiori dell'autore inglese sono presenti nelle prime opere politiche che pubblica. The essay deals with the origins of the liberal socialism of Bertrand Russell. Bertrand Russell y el pragmatismo

    No full text
This paper analyzes the two stages of the relationship of the British philosopher Bertrand Russell withpragmatism. The first section reviews the criticisms that the author made to American pragmatists. The second exposes Russell’s pragmatic turn, exposing the causes of this turn and its consequences. This paper argues that both stages should be understood in the context of the discussions about truth that were observed in philosophy in the first decades of the 20th century

Cournot and Bertrand in shipping models with circular markets

    No full text
We investigate two shipping (delivered pricing) duopoly models with circular markets, Cournot and Bertrand. In the Cournot model, maximal distance between two firms becomes the unique equilibrium outcome if transport cost is increasing with distance, irrespective of whether the transport cost function is convex or concave. This result is robust in the sense that cost heterogeneity between two firms does not change the result. In contrast to the Cournot model, this location pattern can fail to be an equilibrium in the Bertrand model. Copyright (c) 2006 the author(s). Journal compilation (c) 2006 RSAI.

On Timelike Bertrand Curves In Minkowski 3-Space

    No full text
In this paper, we study the timelike Bertrand curves in Minkowski 3-space. Since the principal normal vector of a timelike curve is spacelike, the Bertrand mate curve of this curve can be a timelike curve, a spacelike curve with spacelike principal normal or a Cartan null curve, respectively. Thus, by considering these three cases, we get the necessary and sufficient conditions for a timelike curve to be a Bertrand curve. Also we give the related examples.TUBITAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey)Turkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Arastirma Kurumu (TUBITAK)The authors express thanks to the referees for their valuable suggestions. On the gnoseologic principles of Bertrand Russell

    No full text
Exposed in 1948, within his masterpiece on the scope and limits of human knowledge, the epistemological tenets that Bertrand Russell regarded as fundamental elements in the construction of scientific knowledge, are still worthy of a detailed discussion today. Given the excellence of the author, it will not be surprising to see that Russell's gnoseologic postulates, even for the present scientific view, address some of the most controversial questions still to be solved in the theory of knowledge
