No full textStan Sanville Rubin and Judith Kitchen interview Lee K. Abbott. Lee K. Abbott was a short storyist, fiction writer, and professor of English at Case Western University. He was the two time recipient of The National Endowment of the Arts, a recipient of the Major Artist Fellowship, 2004 Alumni Distinguished, and Teaching Award. Abbott was a writer in residence at Brockport as part of a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts. He opens the interview with a reading from "The Heart Never Fits Its Wanting". Much of this collection takes place in New Mexico; Lee talks about what role that area plays in his writing and how he came to love stories through the actions of his parents and a particular independent bookstore owner. The conversation turns to other writers who influence Abbott's writing style and why he enjoys leaning on styles of other writers to move his story forward. Lee talks about preserving and reviving old words because of his particular enjoyment of them. He describes being a maximalist in regard to a more full development of a story and its characters when he's writing. The conversation moves to a comparison of "Time and Fear and Somehow Love" and "The Final Proof of Love and Circumstance". They discuss the layering of stories between parents and children and how the reader ought to experience the material. Each story is the inverse of the other and they discuss the contemplation love and death.Archived web conten

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
