Bounded extremal problems in Hardy spaces for the conjugate Beltrami equation in simply-connected domains

    No full text
Techniques of constrained approximation are used to recover solutions to elliptic partial differential equations from incomplete and corrupted boundary data. The approach involves constructive computations in generalized Hardy spaces of functions whose real and imaginary parts are related by formulae similar to the Cauchy–Riemann equations: these spaces were recently introduced by Baratchart, Leblond, Rigat and Russ. A prime motivation for this research is the modeling of plasma confinement in a tokamak reactor. Constructive and numerical aspects are also discussed in detail

On fractional semidiscrete Dirac operators of L\'evy-Leblond type

    No full text
In this paper we introduce a wide class of space-fractional and time-fractional semidiscrete Dirac operators of L\'evy-Leblond type on the semidiscrete space-time lattice hZn×[0,)h\mathbb{Z}^n\times[0,\infty) (h>0h>0), resembling to fractional semidiscrete counterparts of the so-called parabolic Dirac operators. The methods adopted here are fairly operational, relying mostly on the algebraic manipulations involving Clifford algebras, discrete Fourier analysis techniques as well as standard properties of the analytic fractional semidiscrete semigroup {exp(teiθ(Δh)α)}t0\left\{\exp(-te^{i\theta}(-\Delta_h)^{\alpha})\right\}_{t\geq 0}, carrying the parameter constraints 0<α10<\alpha\leq 1 and θαπ2|\theta|\leq \frac{\alpha \pi}{2}. The results obtained involve the study of Cauchy problems on hZn×[0,)h\mathbb{Z}^n\times[0,\infty).Comment: 30 pages, 3 figures; several typos were corrected; Section 5 was expande

    Generalized supersymmetry and Lévy-Leblond equation

    No full text
The symmetries of the L\'evy-Leblond equation are investigated beyond the standard Lie framework. It is shown that the equation has two remarkable symmetries. One is given by the super Schr\"odinger algebra and the other is by a \ZZ graded Lie algebra. The \ZZ graded Lie algebra is achieved by transforming bosonic into fermionic operators in the super Schr\"odinger algebraand introducing second order differential operators as generators of symmetry

On the Lévy-Leblond-Newton equation and its symmetries: a geometric view

    No full text
24 pages, 2 figuresInternational audienceThe L\'evy-Leblond-Newton (LLN) equation for non-relativistic fermions with a gravitational self-interaction is reformulated within the framework of a Bargmann structure over a (n+1)(n+1)-dimensional Newton-Cartan (NC) spacetime. The Schr\"odinger-Newton (SN) group, introduced in [21] as the maximal group of invariance of the SN equation, turns out to be also the group of conformal Bargmann automorphisms preserving the coupled L\'evy-Leblond and NC gravitational field equations. Within the Bargmann geometry a generalization of the LLN equation is provided as well. The canonical projective unitary representation of the SN group on 4-component spinors is also presented. In particular, when restricted to dilations, the value of the dynamical exponent z=(n+2)/3z=(n+2)/3 is recovered as previously derived in [21] for the SN equation. Subsequently, conserved quantities associated to the (generalized) LLN equation are also exhibited

Starting, at first, from some little known but notable formal remarks made by the mathematician Gabriele Darbo about the qualitative dimensional analysis of the physical quantities, for then, above all, take into account some latest science education (d’après diSessa) and philosophy (d’après Gärdenfors) research results, it shall be possible, paraphrasing a celebrated 1851 work of Arthur Schopenhauer, work out a kind of Parerga und Paralipòmena of the basic J-M. Lévy-Leblond paper On the Conceptual Nature of the Physical Constants, published in Rivista del Nuovo Cimento in 1977. The epistemological reconnaissance thereof, might turn out to be of some usefulness in the physics education context as regard, for instance, the meaning of the physical constants, their values and possible further epistemological and pedagogical implications
