No full textIn questa memoria è presentato il Box Plot ovvero uno strumento grafico in grado di rappresentare in modo sintetico un insieme di dati tipicamente sperimentali. Tale grafico è costruito utilizzando solo cinque grandezze statistiche ed è pertanto assai semplice nella sua realizzazione e, soprattutto, nella sua interpretazione. Il Box Plot è molto utilizzato nella rappresentazione e nell’analisi dei dati sperimentali e laddove vi è la necessità di disporre e riassumere in modo semplice alcune informazioni statistiche, per esempio in un report e in un articolo. Nella presente memoria sono forniti i mezzi per la costruzione del grafico e viene riportata la relativa interpretazione, nonché l’utilità che il grafico manifesta quando sia necessario effettuare confronti tra più campioni di dati

No full textThe Gabor transform is a time-frequency transform in which the signals are expressed as the sum of wavelets of sinusoidal form and Gaussian amplitude variation. In this paper, we propose the Gabor transform as a measurement technique useful for detection and analysis of short-time transient phenomena. In particular, our purpose is to detect partial discharges, which show up as very short pulses added to the low frequency power carrier. Capabilities of a Gabor-like algorithm for partial discharge detection are discussed in the paper, as well as the influence of mathematical and instrumental parameters on the performance of the method

Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
