    Targeting families and teens: Television violence on the WB

    The author investigates the amount of violence contained within WB primetime programs in order to determine The WB\u27s number of violent acts per program and per program hour as well as determine some of the possible effects of The WB\u27s violence. The author sampled one week of WB primetime programming. A definition of violence similar to other violence studies was employed for comparability. The unit of analysis used for coding was the violent act. The author found all WB primetime programs to contain some violence. The most violent WB primetime program was Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the highest number of violent acts aired was found on Tuesday night. The author concludes the majority of WB primetime programs contain a low amount of violence. The author suggests future violence studies employ a single accepted definition of violence and include The WB and UPN programming in their samples

    An assessment of the impact of possible CAP reform scenarios on Romanian agriculture

    Using a simplified model, with key-variable the prices of two different possible scenarios of CAP reform after 2013 (moderate and radical), this paper present a comparison between the price effects of implementation of each reform scenario at 2015 horizon on Romanian agriculture. This short analysis shows that, under the presented hypotheses, the net welfare effect, due to the price changes, for the selected products, is positive in both reform scenarios, yet greater in the case of the radical reform. Integrated in the large context of Romanian development, it seems that the influence of CAP reform upon agriculture and rural areas will be most likely a gradual one: an interpenetration between the two scenarios is foreseeable, starting with the moderate reform that will dominate the period around 2013, the reform measures acquiring a more radical character afterwards.CAP reform, Romania, welfare effects, Agricultural and Food Policy,

    Resistor-based temperature sensors can achieve much higher resolution and energy efficiency than conventional BJT-based sensors [1], but they typically occupy more area (&gt; 0.25 mm 2 ) and have lower operating temperatures (le 125 {circ} {C}) [2]-[4]. This work describes a 0.12mm 2 resistor-based sensor that uses a Wien-bridge (WB) filter to achieve 0.1 {circ} {C} (3 sigma) inaccuracy from - 40 {circ} {C} to 180 {circ} {C}. Compared to a state-of-the-art WB sensor [4], it occupies 6 × less area and achieves comparable relative accuracy over a 76% wider operating range.     Compassionate care in radiography recruitment, education and training: A post-Francis Report review of the current literature and patient perspectives

The final version is available from WB Saunders via the DOI in this record.Compassion is elemental in the care of a patient during their medical imaging (MI) procedure and is highly topical in the light of the Francis Report. The patient–practitioner interaction is an amalgam of context, communication and individual differences, and whilst compassion is a term in common parlance in the media, policy and radiographers' professional documents, its meaning and manifestation in radiography recruitment, education and practice are less clearly articulated. A review of the existing literature was undertaken, including a small scale study exploring patients' experiences in diagnostic medical imaging. Themes from the study included communication; competence; emotions; attitudes and relationships, but notably absent was any mention of compassion per se. Radiography research would benefit from further exploratory work into the nature of compassionate patient care in the unique context of the medical imaging encounter; offering an evidence-based contribution to radiography in the light of the Francis Report.Funding for the preliminary study came from the Higher Education Academy. The assembled contigs of the genotype A1 isolate, WB, were previously mapped along the 5 chromosomes on the basis of hybridization of plasmid clones representing the contigs to chromosomes separated by PFGE. In the current report, we have generated an MluI optical map of the WB genome to improve the accuracy of the physical map.     This paper discusses the critiques forming the debate on the future of the two major global financial institutions – the IMF and the WB. The author does not claim what the IMF and the WB really are, but reviews how they are seen by their critics. The article describes and summarizes the multifaceted critical discussion and proposes an elementary scheme formed by four basic positions. These are based on two variables: (1) moderation or radicalism of the critiques; (2) their affiliation with the right or the left side of the political spectrum. As a result, four basic critical positions emerge: right reformers, right radicals, left reformers, and left radicals. This paper characterizes each of them by overviewing the opinions of two representative participants of the discussion

    The increased demand on reliable design methods for protective structures has resulted in the Netherlands in preparing a set of design guidelines for revetments of the sea-, and river-dikes, and for bank protection. These guidelines are intended for technicians and organizations directly involved in the design and management of protective structures. In this report a brief review on general design philosophy, different hydraulic and geotechnical aspects and design criteria for various types of revetments is given. The stability criteria based on small and large scale tests are formulated for the following systems: rip-rap, concrete units, asphalt and grass-mats. Developments for some other systems are also briefly mentioned.KWP-collectio

    A Self-Calibrated Hybrid Thermal-Diffusivity/Resistor-Based Temperature Sensor

    This article describes a hybrid temperature sensor in which an accurate, but energy-inefficient, thermal diffusivity (TD) sensor is used to calibrate an inaccurate, but efficient, resistor-based sensor. The latter is based on silicided polysilicon resistors embedded in a Wien-bridge (WB) filter, while the former is based on an electrothermal filter (ETF) made from a p-diffusion/metal thermopile and an n-diffusion heater. The use of an on-chip sensor for calibration obviates the need for an external temperature reference and a temperature-stabilized environment, thus reducing the cost. To mitigate the area overhead of the TD sensor, it reuses the WB filter's readout circuitry. Realized in a 180-nm CMOS technology, the hybrid sensor occupies 0.2 mm2. After calibration at room temperature (25 °C) and at an elevated temperature (85 °C), it achieves an inaccuracy of 0.25 °C (3 σ) from-55 °C to 125 °C. The WB sensor dissipates 66 μ W from a 1.8-V supply and achieves a resolution of 450 μ K rms in a 10-ms conversion time, which corresponds to a resolution figure-of-merit (FoM) of 0.13 pJ K2.     Dijkgraverij en het herstel van schade: Muskusrattenbestrijding en veiligheid van het watersysteembeheer

    De Inspectie Verkeer & Waterstaat, Domein Waterbeheer (hierna: de inspectie) heeft een onderzoek uitgevoerd naar de bijdrage van de provinciale muskusrattenbestrijding aan de veiligheid van het watersysteembeheer, naar aanleiding van haar risicoanalyse uit 2009 en signalen uit de media in de zomer van 2010 (zie bijlage B). De inspectie heeft dit onderzoek uitgevoerd bij muskusrattenbestrijding en waterschappen in de provincies Zuid-Holland en Noord- Holland. In Noord- en Zuid-Holland geven zowel de provinciale muskusrattenbestrijding, als het waterschap aan dat er door graverij schade aan waterkeringen is. De door bestrijders aangetroffen schade wordt niet of nauwelijks gemeld bij een waterschap. Hierdoor gaat belangrijke informatie verloren over de staat van waterkeringen. Op basis van haar onderzoek meent de inspectie dat provincies en waterschappen de veiligheid van waterkeringen moeten verhogen door elkaar beter te informeren over schade door graverij in waterkeringen. Het herstel van schade vindt plaats op basis van incidentele meldingen vanuit de muskusrattenbestrijding. Hierdoor kan het waterschap haar wettelijke taak niet optimaal uitvoeren. De provincies Noord- en Zuid-Holland zijn naast muskusrattenbestrijder ook toezichthouder op de inliggende waterschappen voor de veiligheid van waterkeringen. De provincie controleert vanuit dit toezicht in feite indirect haar eigen tekortkomingen in de bestrijdingstaak. Het slecht in beeld hebben van schade door graverij en het toevallig herstel van schade brengt risico\u92s met zich mee voor de veiligheid van het watersysteem in de provincies Noord- en Zuid-Holland.Muskusrattenbestrijdin
