A Phylogenetic Analysis Of Molecular And Morphological Data Reveals A Paraphyletic Poecilanthe (leguminosae, Papilionoideae)
Separate and combined Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian analyses of the papilionoid legume genus Poecilanthe sensu lato (Leguminosae) and other Genistoid genera were performed using molecular (nuclear ribosomal and chloroplast matK) and morphological data. The data are in excellent agreement that Poecilanthe is paraphyletic with respect to other genera of the tribe Brongniartieae. Each of the three independent lineages of Poecilanthe sensu lato combines a morphological, geographical, and ecological distinction. They will be ranked at the genus level and Poecilanthe sensu stricto is recircumscribed to encompass the extra-Amazonian species that occur in highly seasonal dry forests.39411421149Arroyo, M.T.K., The systematics of the legume genus harpalyce (leguminosae: Lotoideae (1976) Memoirs of the New York Botanical Garden, 26, pp. 1-80Bailey, C.D., Carr, T.G., Harris, S.A., Hughes, C.E., Characterization of angiosperm nrdna polymorphism, paralogy, and pseudogenes (2003) Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 29, pp. 435-455Bentham, G., Synopsis of dalbergieae, a tribe of leguminosae (1860) Journal of the Proceedings of the Linnean Society. Educating the next generation with Science Alive
This presentation recounts the experiences of Logan Sonne and Alexander Lavin as they work together with the organization Science Alive to educate the next generation about important scientific topics. Myself and Alex worked diligently to prepare a presentation for an elementary school we would be visiting, in order to teach a fourth-grade class about how hydroponics works and its importance to our future.https://stars.library.ucf.edu/hip-2023fall/1080/thumbnail.jp
