The expanding distribution of Ixodes scapularis and associated pathogens in the Chicago, IL, metropolitan area
The geographic distribution of Lyme disease in the United States has increased considerably since the first description of the illness in the 1970s. The primary vector of Lyme disease, the tick Ixodes scapularis (Acari: Ixodidae), has expanded its range concurrently with the disease including into urban landscapes. To investigate landscape factors that may influence the colonization of I. scapularis and its associated pathogens in an urban ecosystem, 45 sites were sampled along three transects spanning the urban-to-rural human land use gradient in the Chicago, Illinois, metropolitan area. I collected four species of ticks (88% were I. scapularis) which exhibited variable infection rates for six pathogens, including Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease, and B. lonestari and B. miyamotoi, both reported for the first time in Illinois. Logistic regression modeling indicated the presence of I. scapularis was positively correlated with forest land cover and negatively correlated with developed land cover, while the presence of B. burgdorferi was positively correlated with forest land cover. Neither the presence of the tick or the pathogen were correlated with distance to the nearest major river way. This study suggests that the range of I. scapularis and its pathogens have expanded in the Chicago metropolitan area since previous studies were conducted, including into forested urban areas near to the urban core. As tick and pathogen continue to colonize new areas, active monitoring and increased public education will be needed to protect vulnerable human populations.Submission published under a 24 month embargo labeled 'U of I only', the embargo will last until 2017-08-01The student, Tyler Hedlund, accepted the attached license on 2015-07-20 at 11:56.The student, Tyler Hedlund, submitted this Thesis for approval on 2015-07-20 at 12:04.This Thesis was approved for publication on 2015-07-20 at 13:08.DSpace SAF Submission Ingestion Package generated from Vireo submission #8563 on 2015-09-29 at 15:00:52Made available in DSpace on 2015-09-29T20:50:21Z (GMT).
Title: Personality traits and the level of job satisfaction among real estate agents – A study on how personality traits within The Big Five have a relationship with the level of job satisfaction among real estate agents during a declining housing market. Level: Student thesis, final assignment for Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration Authors: David Hedlund and William Wiman Supervisor: Lars-Johan Åge Date: 2023 - June Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between different personality traits within The Big Five and the level of job satisfaction of real estate agents during a declining housing market. Methodology: The study is based on a quantitative method with a deductive approach. The basis of the work is in the form of a survey for the collection of data. The survey's population was based on real estate agents in Stockholm, where the sample consisted of 300 active real estate agents. To analyze the statistics from the survey, we chose to use JASP where a bivariate correlation analysis was performed. Result and Conclusion: The result shows that the personality traits within The Big Five have a correlation with job satisfaction. Extraversion and Conscientiousness have positive correlations to job satisfaction while Neuroticism has negative correlations. The personality traits Agreeableness and Openness were found to have no correlations to job satisfaction based on this study. Research contribution: The theoretical contribution of this study is to gain a clearer understanding of personality traits within The Big Five and how they affect a real estate agent's well-being and job satisfaction during a declining housing market. The study's practical contribution is aimed at real estate agents as individuals. This study provides an insight into how personality traits are found in everyday life and how they affect a real estate agent as an individual. Suggestions for future research: This study is specifically focused on real estate agents in Stockholm and Stockholm's housing market. It would therefore be interesting to replicate this study in another city, for example a smaller city to see how the results differ in a market that is completely different compared to Stockholm's housing marke

Polytype control of MoS2 using chemical bath deposition
Molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) has a wide range of applications from electronics to catalysis. While the properties of single-layer and multilayer MoS₂ films are well understood, controlling the deposited MoS₂ polytype remains a significant challenge. In this work, we employ chemical bath deposition, an aqueous deposition technique, to deposit large area MoS₂ thin films at room temperature. Using Raman spectroscopy and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, we show that the deposited MoS₂ polytype can be changed from semiconducting 2H MoS₂ on hydrophobic -CH₃ and -CO₂C₆F₅ terminated self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) to semimetallic 1T MoS₂ on hydrophilic -OH and -COOH terminated SAMs. The data suggest that the deposition of MoS₂ polytypes is controlled by the substrate surface energy. High surface energy substrates stabilize 1T MoS₂ films, while 2H MoS₂ is deposited on lower surface energy substrates. This effect appears to be general enabling the deposition of different MoS₂ polytypes on a wide range of substrates. ©2019 Author(s).National Science Foundation (Grant No. CHE 1708258).Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer ScienceSchool of Natural Sciences and Mathematic
