Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Get PDFThe article describes the results of immunological blood studies in wild cats (caracals, servals, and caracatas) with spontaneous dermatophytosis. It was found that in the nursery of 40 wild animals, 23 had fungal skin lesions. 5 out of 10 caracal cats became ill, 7 out of 12 servals, and 11 out of 18 caracatas. Control and experimental groups of animals were formed taking into account the genus. Experimental group I (E1) was represented by five sick cats of the caracal genus, II (E2) by seven servals, and III (E3) by 11 caracatas of the F1–F4 generation. Conditionally healthy wild cats and cats of the corresponding genera served as controls (n = 5), which were isolated from patients, could be carriers of the infection, but did not have clinical manifestations of pathology. Treatment of dermatophytosis was comprehensive and included general preventive measures and specific therapy (TROPICAL Fungicide (Ideal), intraconazole). Given the importance of the immune system for the prevention and treatment of dermatophytosis in animals, we studied the effectiveness of the triazole-based immunostimulating agent “Immunokor”. On the 7th, 14th, and 21st day from the onset of the disease, animals of groups E2 and E3 were administered the studied agent intramuscularly. Cats-caraquets (group E1) were vaccinated with the drug “Biofel M”, but “Immunokor” was not used. In the course of the studies, it was found that against the background of dermatophytosis in cats, immunosuppression develops: in the blood of animals with symptoms of skin lesions, BASK, FAN decrease; the content of CIC increases; against the background of a reduction in the total number of T-lymphocytes, the percentage of T-suppressors increases; the concentration of IL-1 and IL-6 increased. When studying the immunological blood parameters of animals of group E3, which received the drug “Immunokor” in the treatment regimen, it was found that they dynamically changed about similar ones at the beginning of the disease and to animals of the control group. The BASC of the blood in the recovered animals exceeded the BASC of animals with symptoms of dermatophytosis by 13.4 % (P < 0.05), and the phagocytic activity of neutrophils by 45.7 % (P < 0.01). The content of CIC in the blood was significantly lower (P < 0.05) (by 12.0 %). The percentage of T-helpers increased by 3.3 % (P < 0.05) and T-suppressors significantly decreased (by 21.9 %). The IgG concentration in the blood increased by 40.9 % (P < 0.01), and the level of IL-1 and IL-6 was lower by 18.9 and 12.9 %, respectively. It was confirmed that the use of the drug Immunocor in the complex therapy of dermatophytosis contributes to the strengthening of the immunoresistance of animals, improves the immune response to fungal infection, which ensured a faster (by 6–7 days) complete recovery of animals and prevented relapses of a similar etiology.У статті описано результати імунологічних досліджень крові у диких котів (каракали, сервали і каракети) за спонтанного дерматофітозу. З’ясовано, що в розпліднику із 40 диких тварин грибкове ураження шкіри мали 23. Із 10 котів-каракалів захворіли 5, з 12 сервалів – 7, із 18 каракетів – 11. Контрольні і дослідні групи тварин формувались з урахуванням родової приналежності. Дослідна група І-а (Д1) була представлена 5 хворими котами з роду каракали, ІІ-а (Д2) – 7 сервалами і ІІІ-я (Д3) – 11 каракетами F1 – F4 покоління. Контролем (n = 5) служили умовно здорові дикі коти і кішки відповідних родів, які знаходились ізольовано від хворих, могли бути носіями інфекції, але клінічного прояву патології не мали. Лікування дерматофітії було комплексним і включало в себе заходи загально-профілактичного характеру і специфічну терапію (TROPICAL Fungicide (Ideal), інтраконазол). З урахуванням важливості стану імунної системи для профілактики і лікування дерматофітії у тварин, нами вивчено ефективність, створеного на основі тріазолу, імуностимулювального засобу “Імунокор”. На 7, 14 і 21-у доби від початку захворювання тваринам групи Д2 і Д3 внутрішньом’язово вводили досліджуваний засіб. Котів-каракетів (група Д1 ) вакцинували препаратом “Біофел М” але “Імунокор” не застосовували. У процесі проведених досліджень було встановлено, що на тлі дерматофітії в котів розвивається імуносупресія: у крові тварин з симптоматикою шкірних уражень знижується БАСК, ФАН; зростає вміст ЦІК; на тлі зменшення загальної кількості Т-лімфоцитів зростав відсоток Т-супресорів; збільшувалась концентрація ІL-1 і ІL-6. Досліджуючи імунологічні показники крові тварин групи Д3 , яка в схемі лікування отримувала препарат “Імунокор”, було встановлено, що вони динамічно змінювалися по відношенню до аналогічних на початку захворювання і до тварин групи контролю. БАСК крові у тварин, що виздоровіли переважала БАСК тварин з симптомами дерматофітії на 13,4 % (Р < 0,05), а фагоцитарну активність нейтрофілів – на 45,7 % (Р < 0,01). Вірогідно меншим (Р < 0,05) був вміст в крові ЦІК (на 12,0 %). Відсоток Т-хелперів зростав на 3,3 % (Р < 0,05) а Т-супресорів – вірогідно зменшувався (на 21,9 %). З’ясовано, що концентрація lgG в крові збільшувалася на 40,9 % (Р < 0,01), а рівень IL-1 і IL-6 був меншим на 18,9 та 12,9 %, відповідно. Підтверджено, що застосування в комплексній терапії дерматофітозу препарату Імунокор сприяє посиленню імунорезистентності тварин, покращує імунну відповідь на грибкову інфекцію, що забезпечувало швидше, (на 6–7 діб) повне виздоровлення тварин і запобігало рецидивам подібної етіології
