Re-consideration of Kirchhoff's Current Law for electromagnetic cloaking and invisibility with plasmonic materials or impedance metasurfaces

    No full text
In the present paper, the Kirchhoff's Current Law (KCL) is re-considered as a cloaking condition for structures based on dielectric-plasmonic materials (Plasmonic Cloaking) and devices made up of metallic-dielectric metasurfaces (Mantle Cloaking). Consistently with Devaney-Wolf Theorem III on non-scattering sources, the KCL is derived by imposing zeros on scattered near-fields in the quasi-static limit: beyond the quasi-static regime, the KCL can represent a local condition on each unit cell of impedance metasurfaces. The aim of this paper is to introduce a unified physical-mathematical framework for invisibility and cloaking devices from a novel perspective based on contrast and impedance concepts

Investigations on transparent scatterers for the control of near-field levels

    No full text
A numerical approach based on the Volume Electric Field Integral Equation is presented for investigating the permittivity profile of dielectric scatterers able to synthesize a determined near-field distribution. Starting from the cloaking design approaches available in the literature, in this paper, the main concept is to mathematically postulate the field in certain regions (i.e., cloaked and coating areas) and imposing unperturbed field lines for all the external observers positioned in the near-field zone. The general mathematical framework is presented with a Contrast-Field (CF) formulation and some numerical examples are given

SHAPE: A new Business Analytics web platform for getting insights on electrical load patterns

    No full text
This paper deals with an innovative Web software platform for Business Analytics applied to the load patterns sourced from the Enel network's smart meters. Using ad hoc developed advanced time series analysis, the SHAPE (Statistical Hybrid Analysis for load ProfilE) platform enables the Data Analyst to solve in a user-friendly Rich Internet Applications (RIA) important tasks such as hourly energy analysis, customer classification, load prediction, and non-technical losses detection. The platform, developed within a R&D project, represents a tangible example of Applied Research-Industry knowledge transfer. By means of a Web Service interface, the platform exposes and shares the implemented models with other Corporate or third- party applications. The SHAPE datawarehouse currently stores three years progressively updated of load patterns for about 100,000 measurement points at the customers' premises

Inverse Scattering Homogenization method for conformal metamaterial structures

    No full text
The composite nature of metamaterial structures, made up of metallic and dielectric parts, repeated and modulated in a certain order in the space, increases the numerical complexity of electromagnetic analysis: homogenizing such structures with a continuous dielectric model that achieves the same global electromagnetic response could be challenging, but it could give more information about the physical mechanism of wave propagation through it. The idea developed in this paper is to associate an equivalent permittivity to a novel metamaterial architecture (i.e. the microstrip-line-based metamaterial), solving an Inverse Scattering Problem (ISP). The expected global electromagnetic response involves the cloaking effect, artificially created by the radiation of surface waves propagating around the periodic structure. In the proposed Inverse Scattering Homogenization method (ISHM), the equivalent permittivity results exhibit values between zero and one, further tested in a Forward Scattering Problem (FSP), in order to establish a one-to-one correspondance between heterogeneous (physical) and homogeneous (mathematical) mode

L'ontologia della separazione negli inediti di Levinas

    No full text
