La mezcla de ácidos grasos de tipo mediterráneo induce protección celular en hepatocitos con sobrecarga de lípidos en un modelo Murino de esteatosis inducido con una dieta tipo Western
La enfermedad hepática no alcohólica (NAFLD) persiste como uno de los principales desordenes hepáticos a nivel mundial. Está ampliamente aceptado que es el tipo de lípido, más que la cantidad depositada en las células lo que determina el daño celular. El colesterol y los ácidos grasos libres saturados son lípidos nocivos que se acumulan, sin embargo, existen algunos lípidos valiosos que podrían contrarrestar los efectos de aquellos con propiedades nocivas. Gran parte de este conocimiento surge de estudios que investigan el efecto de un solo ácido graso, no obstante, la combinación de ácidos grasos, tal y como se obtiene en la dieta, no se han abordado de manera adecuada. En el presente trabajo, nos enfocamos en averiguar el efecto celular de dos mezclas diferentes de ácidos grasos, una con una alta proporción de ácidos grasos saturados y otra con alta proporción de ácidos grasos insaturados (tipo Mediterráneo) en un modelo celular con esteatosis. Se trataron hepatocitos primarios de ratones alimentados con una dieta Western o tipo occidental (dieta alta en grasas y carbohidratos) con ambas mezclas de ácidos grasos durante 24h. Los datos obtenidos muestran claramente que solo la mezcla con alto contenido de ácidos grasos insaturados indujo una disminución del contenido de triglicéridos (47,5%) y colesterol (59%) en los hepatocitos esteatósicos mediante la protección celular asociada a la disminución de EROSy daño oxidante. En cambio, la mezcla de ácidos grasos mayoritariamente saturados no mostró efectos, conservando altos niveles de colesterol, triglicéridos y daño oxidante. En conclusión, los resultados muestran que la mezcla de ácidos grasos de tipo mediterráneo ejerció protección celular para la esteatosis al disminuir los triglicéridos, el colesterol, el contenido de EROS y el daño oxidante
EL ÁCIDO LINOLEICO CONJUGADO COMO REGULADOR DE LA LIPOPROTEíNALIPASA Y APOLIPOPROTEíNA C-III EN RATONES
Uno de los efectos benéficos que presenta el ácido linoleico conjugado (CLA por sus
siglas en inglés) es la reducción de los triglicéridos sanguíneos. El mecanismo que explique
este efecto no está aún determinado. Sin embargo, se sabe que el CLA es un ligando con muy
alta afinidad por el receptor activado por proliferadores de peroxisomas (PPARs), quiénes se
encuentran involucrados en el metabolismo de los lípidos. Por otra parte, el mecanismo de
acción de los fibratos y las tiazolidinedionas está mediado por la activación de los PPARs,
quiénes a su vez regulan la transcripción de la apolipoproteína C-III (apo C-III) y
lipoproteínalipasa (LPL.). Por consiguiente, se propone que al igual que estos fármacos, el
efecto hipolipemiante del CLA es explicado por la regulación de la expresión de la LPL y apo
C-IIL El objetivo de la presente investigación es aportar datos que expliquen el mecanismo
mediante el cual el CLA disminuye los triglicéridos sanguíneos. Para el análisis se extrajo el
RNA total de los tejidos adiposo, hepático y muscular provenientes da 30 ratones albino (Mus
musculus), Los ratones fueron alimentados con 5 tipo de dietas que contenían como
ingrediente principal: a) 65% sacarosa para inducir la hipertrigliceridemia (SAC), b) dextrosa al
65% (DEX) como control, c) 65% SAC + ácido linoleico conjugado 1.0% (CLA), d) 65% SAC +
0.2% de troglitazona (TRO) y e) 65% SAC + 1.0% CLA + 0.2 % TRO. La cuantificación de la
acumulación de mRNA de la lipoproteinalipasa y apolipoprotelna C-III se realizó por la reacción
de la transcriptasa reversa y reacción en cadena de la polimerasa (RT-PCR). Se utilizó un
RNA recombinante (rcRNA) como estándar interno para cuantificar los transcritos de cada gen.
Los resultados señalan que en músculo el mRNA acumulado de la apo C-III de los ratones
alimentados con 1% de CLA, se redujo 97% y la LPL aumentó 240% en comparación con los
alimentados con SAC (p<0.05). En cambio, en tejido adiposo la acumulación de mRNA de la
LPL se redujo 97% (p<0.05). Por otro lado, la TRO redujo en un 45% la acumulación de
mRNA de la apo C-III en músculo. En tejido adiposo, se observó una reducción de los
transcritos de LPL 57% en comparación con los ratones alimentados con SAC. En conclusión,
se puede decir que uno de los mecanismos que están explicando el efecto hipotrigliceridémico
por parte del CLA, es la regulación de la LPL y apo C-III tejido-específico a nivel de
transcripción
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
