Vocabulary plays a vital role in every language. At present, many educational media are developed as auxiliary tools for language learning, such as Hanping Chinese Dictionary Lite. Hanping Chinese Dictionary Lite is an electronic dictionary that can help learners learn Chinese vocabulary. This study aims to understand the efficiency of students using the Hanping Chinese Dictionary Lite and students' evaluation of the Hanping Chinese Dictionary Lite. This study uses three research methods: test method, questionnaire survey method, and interview method. The results of the test and questionnaire survey show that the use of Hanping Chinese Dictionary Lite can effectively improve students' Chinese vocabulary. Because after using the dictionary software, the student's mastery of Chinese language has improved, that is, the result of the test is 60% and the result of the questionnaire is 53.50%. In the learning process, the author adopts six steps: showing the mobile phone dictionary to the students, conducting a pre-test, implementing the mobile phone dictionary, conducting a post-test, conducting a questionnaire survey, and conducting interviews. The final results of the interviews show that the evaluation of the dictionary software by the students is very good. It can be said that the students are satisfied with the use of the Hanping Chinese Dictionary Lite and think it is worth using the software
Histopathologic fundamentals of acquired laryngeal stenosis
Acquired laryngeal stenosis is the most serious long- term complication of endotracheal intubation in children. Employing the whole -organ serial section technique, the sequence of histopathologic changes leading to stenosis was studied. Ulceration occurs when an endotracheal tube causes mechanical abrasion and/or induces pressure necrosis on the laryngeal mucosa. Secondary healing of ulceration produces granulation tissue and subsequent fibrous scar tissue. Most exuberant granulation tissue resolves without sequelae, but some becomes firm, almost avascular fibrous scar tissue. The accumulation of submucosal fibrous tissue may decrease the size of the glottic or subglottic lumen. Contraction of scar tissue causes a distortion of glottic and subglottic laryngeal complex, leaving a reduced and irregularly shaped glottic and subglottic lumen. Submucosal mucous gland hyperplasia directly reduces the inner diameter of the airway. Finally, compromise of the laryngeal lumen may occur when the duct of a mucous gland is obstructed by scarring resulting from intubation: mucus accumulates in the dilated duct, producing a ductal cyst.#1968
Sarcopenic Obesity and Outcomes for Patients With Cancer
Importance: The European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) and the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) have recently proposed a consensus definition and diagnostic criteria for sarcopenic obesity (SO). Objective: To implement the ESPEN-EASO diagnostic algorithm to investigate the prevalence of SO and its association with outcomes in patients with solid tumor cancers, with particular regard to associations among SO, overall survival (OS), and patient quality of life (QoL). Design, setting, and participants: This prospective cohort study included patients diagnosed with solid tumor starting in May 7, 2013, with the last follow-up on June 30, 2022. Patients with solid tumors were categorized into SO and non-SO groups according to ESPEN-EASO criteria. The primary outcome was OS and the secondary outcomes included patient QoL and risk of intensive care unit (ICU) admission. Data were analyzed from June to December 2023. Results: A total of 6790 patients were included in the study (mean [SD] age, 59.64 [10.77] years; 3489 were female [51.4%]). The prevalence of SO was 4.36% (296 of 6790) in the whole cohort and 14.98% (296 of 1976) in the subgroup with obesity. SO prevalence increased with age. During a median (IQR) follow-up period of 6.83 (5.67-7.04) years, 2103 patients died. Cox regression analysis indicated that SO was independently associated with lower OS (hazard ratio [HR], 1.54; 95% CI, 1.23-1.92), which was observed in both men (HR, 1.51; 95% CI, 1.09-2.10) and women (HR, 1.53; 95% CI, 1.12-2.07). SO was also associated with poorer QoL and higher risk of ICU admission (odds ratio, 2.39; 95% CI, 1.06-5.29). Among the diagnostic components of SO, low hand grip strength (HGS) was the only SO component associated with poor OS (HR, 1.15; 95% CI, 1.04-1.28). Conclusions and relevance: This cohort study of SO found that SO was significantly associated with lower OS, poorer QoL, and higher risk of ICU admission. Weak HGS, 1 of the diagnostic conditions, was the only component of SO associated with OS. The ESPEN-EASO algorithm appears to be an applicable tool to identify cancer-associated SO, which represents a major clinical complication and factor associated with risk for poor outcomes in these patients
Design and development of a Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) 3D printer for potential biomedical engineering applications.
An additive manufacturing method called Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) involves heating material particles to bond them together. Each two-dimensional layer is selectively sintered in the fabrication piston until the part is entirely manufactured. New layers are created by depositing material from the delivery piston to the fabrication piston, where the laser will follow the cross-sectional toolpath generated from a slicer. One of the most significant advantages of SLS 3D printing is that there is no need to have structural support for the material. The unused material provides support for the sintered shape throughout the whole process. Due to its biocompatibility and mechanical properties, sugar can be a biodegradable structure with many applications in biomedical engineering, such as sugar skeletons for tissue engineering and drug delivery [1]. Thus, this thesis examines the SLS process to print simple and complex geometry single-layer sugar samples. Each sample is designed to showcase the sintering capabilities and technology of an SLS 3D printer for potential biomedical engineering applications. Each sample is sliced into its cross-sectional layers using a non-proprietary software called Slic3r; its G-Code is translated to generate the lasers toolpath, then uploaded to the printer. The printing parameters such as heat chamber temperature, laser scanning speed, and laser intensity are the major determining factors in sample accuracy. Therefore, ideal printing parameters are discussed, and samples are evaluated through various tests. Results show that this printer can sinter single-layer sugar samples in multiple geometries to an acceptable level of accuracy. The printer is limited to two-dimensional printing. However, the results of the final samples indicate that this printer will be able to print in three dimensions in future research
Multi-Material Extrusion-Based Additive Manufacturing: Refinement and Vertical Stacking in a Dual-Silicone DIW System
This thesis advances previous research in multi-material extrusion-based additive manufacturing using Direct Ink Writing (DIW) to develop a more controlled, vertically capable printing process. Building on a dual-material pneumatic extrusion system created at the University of Oklahoma, this work focuses on refining material flow, optimizing print parameters, and exploring early-stage stacking behavior with silicone elastomers. After replicating the original dual-material setup using EcoFlex 00-30 silicone with and without THI-VEX additive, print inconsistency and overspreading highlighted the need for systematic control. A nine-line matrix was developed to isolate the effects of pneumatic pressure and print speed. Results identified 5 psi and 200 mm/min as optimal for consistent, single-layer deposition. Two-pass stacking trials then tested three THI-VEX concentrations (15%, 20%, and 25%) to assess Z-axis behavior. Dimensional analysis showed the 20% formulation provided the most stable stacking, balancing stiffness with print reliability. Though time constraints and dimensional limitations prevented multilayer stacking, this work establishes a repeatable framework for future Z-axis development in dual-silicone DIW systems. The findings transition this project from exploratory replication to process refinement, providing a validated path forward for additive manufacturing of soft, multi-material structures
THE INTERSLELLAR OH AND MASERS
Author Institution: Department of Physics, Beijing Normal UniversityThe masers in the regions of star formation are mainly both and OH masers. They are related to the early evolution of stars. That is why an understanding of the excitated mechanism is of central importance for the discovery of physical characteristic of star formation regions. Unfortunately, the excitation mechanisms is not understood well yet. So far there are two kinds of known mechanisms: Collision and Radiation mechanism. But there are still serious puzzles with these mechanisms. The criticisms of radiation excitation mechanism were its short of pumping photons and its dissociation of and OH molecules by the radiation itself. We notice that the remarkable features of star-formation regions are its ultra-cold environment, its strong VUV radiation and its coicident appearence of the and OH masers. Therefore, we argue a new excitation mechanism. It can unified interpret both and OH interstellar masers. This mechanism uses a wider frequency range of photons and includes a scheme for the regeneration of interstellar and OH molecules. Those are different from former radiation excitation mechanism
Utilization of Captor sponges to maintain nitrification and denitrification in BNR activated sludge at low aerobic MCRTs
The performance of Captor media integration into the aerobic zone of an activated sludge wastewater treatment system operated at low MCRTs was evaluated using a pilot scale Virginia Initiative Project (VIP) process. Two separate trains were operated, one with Captor media incorporated into the aerobic zone of the system, referred to as an Integrated Fixed Film Activated Sludge (IF AS) system, and the other as a control system, i.e., with no media in the aerobic reactors. The wastewater used for this research was pumped from a main municipal sewer of the Blacksburg-VPI Sanitation Authority Collection System. The TKN of the wastewater was supplemented by the addition of urea to maintain the influent ammonia concentration around 55 mg/L as nitrogen. Sodium acetate was added to maintain the influent COD around 450 mg/L and Sodium bicarbonate was added to maintain the pH in the aerobic zone around 7. The system was operated at MCRTs of 1.7, 1.0 and 0.3 days with the operating temperature around 12 C.Master of Scienc
Inspection of Lettuce Water Stress Based on Multi-sensor Information Fusion Technology
International audienceCharacteristics of reflection spectrum, multi-spectral images and temperature of lettuce canopy were gained to judge the lettuce’s water stress condition which could lead to a precise, rapid & stable test of lettuce moisture and enlarged the models’ universality. By the extraction of lettuce’s multi-sensor characteristics in 4 different levels, quantitative analysis model of spectrum including 4 characteristic wavelengths, characteristic model of multi-spectral image and CWSI were established. These multi-sensor characteristics were fused by using the BP artificial neural network. Based on the fused multi-sensor characteristics, the lettuce moisture evaluation model was established. The results showed that the correlation coefficient of multi-spectral images model, spectral characteristics model and information fusion model were in turn increased, the correlation coefficients were respectively 0.8042, 0.8547 and 0.9337. It was feasible to diagnose lettuce water content by using multi-sensor information fusion of reflectance spectroscopy, multi-spectral images and canopy temperature. The correct rate and robustness of the discriminating model from multi-sensor information fusion were better than those of the model from the single-sensor information
