RIESGO A LA SALUD INFANTIL POR EXPOSICIÓN A ARSÉNICO A TRAVÉS DE LA DIETA
El arsénico (As) es uno de los metaloides más tóxicos que se encuentra en el medio ambiente. Las principales vías de exposición son a través de la ingestión de agua potable y el consumo de alimentos. Las exposiciones a este metaloide durante la edad temprana pueden interrumpir el desarrollo normal y provocar alteraciones a la salud en la edad adulta. En la actualidad la mayoría de las investigaciones se centran en el agua como fuente principal, subestimando el riesgo que los alimentos conllevan. El objetivo de esta investigación fue determinar el riesgo por exposición a As a través de la dieta en niños de Hermosillo, Sonora, y su relación con biomarcadores de exposición. Este estudio transversal incluyó 48 infantes de 6 a 11 años y la aplicación de cuestionarios de salud y frecuencia de alimentos. La determinación de As en la dieta fue mediante modelaje probabilístico, la cuantificación As en agua y orina por espectrometría de emisión óptica con plasma acoplado inductivamente y la evaluación de riesgo con el modelo de la Agencia de Protección Ambiental de los Estados Unidos (USEPA). La ingestión diaria promedio de As total (AsT) e inorgánico (AsI) a través de la dieta fue de 2.15 y 0.25 μg/kg/día, respectivamente. Los niveles más altos de AsT se detectaron en los participantes cuya dieta involucró el consumo de pescado y atún. Los alimentos que más aportaron a la ingestión de AsI fueron: el arroz, la avena y el trigo. La proporción de AsI/AsT en promedio fue del 12.6%, lo que indica que la mayor cantidad de arsénico en las dietas se encontró en forma orgánica. En el 29% de los participantes se detectó AsT en la orina con una mediana de 24.9 μg/L. No se observaron correlaciones entre el AsT urinario y la ingestión de As a través de la dieta. El riesgo no cancerígeno se estimó en 7.17 para AsT y 0.80 para AsI superando el valor seguro (≥1) en el 100% y 31.3% de los participantes, respectivamente. Por lo que existe la probabilidad de desarrollar enfermedades de tipo no cancerígenas por la ingestión de alimentos. En tanto el riesgo cancerígeno fue de 3.73x10-5, valor que no supera lo recomendado por la USEPA en ninguno de los participantes. Por consiguiente, no parece haber riesgo a desarrollar enfermedades cancerígenas como resultado de la ingestión de As a través de la dieta infantil
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
CUANTIFICACIÓN DEL CONTENIDO DE CADMIO, PLOMO Y COBRE EN MÚSCULO Y VÍSCERAS DE GANADO BOVINO DE LA REGIÓN DEL RÍO SONORA
El propósito de este estudio fue iniciar investigación
científica que pueda conducir al establecimiento de valores
estándar de cadmio, plomo y cobra en alimentos en México ya
que se carece de un código normativo a este respecto. Por otro
lado se buscó determinar si la actividad minera en la región
del Río Sonora produce incrementos significativos en el
contenido de dichos metales en el ganado bovino de producción
de carne de campo crecido en esa zona.
En el noreste del Estado de Sonora se localiza el
nacimiento del Río Sonora, en cuya cabecera (Cananea) se
encuentra una de las minas de mayor producción de cobre
del país, la que arroja desechos de alto contenido mineral en
cadmio, plomo y cobre, al río.
A lo largo del Río Sonora también se acostumbra la
siembra de cultivos forrajeros, de hortalizas y la preengorda
de ganado. Parte del ganado pasa posteriormente a los corrales
de engorda de Hermosillo mientras que el resto es exportado a
E.U.A. En esta zona también coexiste ganado adulto, la mayoría
del cual tiene como destino final los rastros de esta región.
El presente estudio muestra que los niveles de cobre y
cadmio detectados se encuentran en rangos normales, mientras
que los de plomo superan a los que se presentan en la Norma de
Australia con una diferencia mínima de 1 ppm. Sin embargo los
valores se encontraron por abajo del nivel máximo permitido
por el Gobierno de Canadá.
Estos resultados pueden ser útiles para el establecimiento de un Código a nivel regional y nacional qua pueda ser
utilizado en el control toxicológico de alimentos

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
