Nuclear targets as a powerful tool in selecting resonant states

No full text
The 0-S and 1+S waves have been analysed studying the coherent production ofπ − π − π + states at 25 and 40 GeV/c with nine different nuclear targets. The absorption in nuclear matter of the meson systems, produced within the nucleus, helps in disentangling the resonant states from the nonresonant background. It was so possible to analyse the A1 resonance with a reduced Deck background and to obtain evidence of two new 0-S resonant states, which can be interpreted as the first and the second radial excitations of the pion

The article raises the question of the reports of the first Russian resident in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth as an informative source on the history of Lithuania and Belarus, offering new questions in the study of the past of two powerful Lithuanian families. The political preferences and course of action of Krzysztof Zygmunt Pac, the Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, are being clarified, which in most cases acted in the interests of the leader of the “French” party, Jan III Sobieski (70-ies of the 17th century). In addition, an attempt is being made to recreate one of the symbols of the Chancellor's power – an inkwell made of gold and silver. The author also tries to find out when Wysokie Litewskie became the residence of the Grand Treasurer of Lithuania Benedykt Paweł Sapieha, ascertain that the aristocrat stayed in palace in 1677, before its reconstruction was completed. Finally, we analyze the symbolism of the salute at the feast of the Lithuanian Hetman Michał Pac, which included various benevolent symbols. Key words: archival documents, permanent diplomatic mission, Polish-Lithuanian-Russian relations, XVII century

A significant part of the scientific heritage of M. S. Bokarius, including reports, overviews, and reviews of the works of leading forensic medical examiners and lawyers from around the world has no bibliographic description and has not been put into scientific circulation. Throughout the pages of "Archives of Criminology and Forensic Medicine" and the Ukrainian-language journal: "Issues of Criminalistics and Forensic Science", the scientist reviewed more than 80 research papers. The peculiarity of the Editorial Board of Bokarius "Archives…" was that a significant number of reviews, overviews, etc., was published by the edition. Mykolai Serhiiovych is an author of more than 70 full-fledged analytical reports; and another 10 in the journal: "Issues of Criminalistics and Forensic Science". The scientist reviewed not only articles, textbooks, monographs by domestic authors, but also research papers of many foreign forensic scientists and criminologists from all over Europe, the USA, Japan, and countries of South America. Reports of scientific articles were reproduced in the journal in French, German and English, Italian and Spanish. All this became possible due to the fact that Mykolai Serhiiovych himself was a gifted linguist and spoke 17 foreign languages. The Article Purpose is a scientific search for new works by the scientist and a fundamental study of 5 issues of the "Archives of Criminology and ForensicMedicine" published in 1926—1927 and 6 issues of the "Issues of Criminalistics and Forensic Science" journal for 1931.

The total cross-section of (5pi)-nucleon collision

Coherent 5π production on nine nuclear targets has been studied at 40 GeV incident energy at the Serpukhov accelerator (CERN-Serpukhov experiment No. 5). The collision cross section of the 5π system on the nucleon has been determined in the frame of the Kölbig-Margolis-Glauber model; its value, <10 mb, is definitely lower than the (3π)-nucleon cross section at the same energy

Evidence for new 0S0^{-} S resonances in the π+ππ\pi^{+} \pi^{-} \pi^{-} systems

Partial-wave analysis has been performed on 120 000 - -+ events coherently produced on nuclear targets in a - beam of 40 GeV/c. Evidence has been found for a 0- S resonance at 1.24 GeV with a width 0.36 GeV. The data also suggest the presence of another 0- S resonance of similar width near 1.8 GeV. These observations can be interpreted as radial excitations of the meson

Determination of ǀVcb☐from the semileptonic decay B0 → D*-l+ν

Semileptonic decays B→ D*-l+νX were selected from a sample of 3.1 million hadronic Z decays collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP. A topological search for semileptonic B decays to resonant and non-resonant D*-π+ states was performed and the ratio of the branching fractions: Br(B → D*-l+νX)/Br(B → D*-+νX) + Br(B0 → + D*-l+ν) = 0.19 ± 0.10(stat) ± 0.06(syst) was determined. Taking into account this contribution, the differential decay width of B0 → D*-l+ν was measured as a function of the momentum transfer from the B to the D*- in two separate analyses, using exclusive and inclusive methods of D*- reconstruction. The distributions were fitted over the full momentum transfer range to extract the product of {pipe}Vcb{pipe} times the normalization of the decay form factor F(q2max): F(q2max){pipe}Vcb{pipe} = (35.4 ± 1.9(stat) ± 2.4(syst)) · 10-3. The value of {pipe}Vcb{pipe} was computed using theoretical calculations of F(q2max), giving: {pipe}Vcb{pipe} = (38.9 ± 2.0(stat) ± 2.6(syst) ± 1.7(theory)) · 10-3. The total branching fraction Br(B0 → D*-l+ν) was determined to be: Br(130, D*-l+v) = (5.52 ± 0.17(stat) ± 0.68(syst))%. © Springer-Verlag 1996

Measurement of the (B)over-bar -> D-(*)pi l(nu)over-bar(l) branching fraction

A study of b semileptonic decays into D, D pi(+/-) and D*pi(+/-) final states is presented. The D-0, D+ and D*(+) mesons are exclusively reconstructed in Z decay data recorded from 1992 to 1995 in the DELPHI experiment at LEP. The overall branching fractions are measured to be: BR(b –> D(0)l(-)<(upsilon)over bar>X-l) = (7.04 +/- 0.34(stat) +/- 0.36 (syst.exp) +/- 0.17(BRD))%, BR(b –> D(+)l(-)<(upsilon)over bar>X-l) = (2.72 +/- 0.19(stat) +/- 0.16(syst.exp) +/- 0.18(BRD))%, BR(b –> D*(+)l(-)<(upsilon)over bar>X-l) = (2.75 +/- 0.17(stat) +/- 0.13 (syst.exp) +/- 0.09 (BRD))%, where the D-0 and D+ results include also contributions from D*(0) and D*(+) decays. A fit to the distribution of the pi(+/-) impact parameter to the primary interaction vertex provides a measurement of the b semileptonic branching fractions into the D(0)pi(+/-)X, D(+)pi(+/-)X and D*(+)pi(+/-)X final states. Assuming that single pion decay modes of B mesons dominate, the partial rates for (B) over bar –> D pi l(-)<(upsilon)over bar>(l) and (B) over bar –> D*pi l(-)<(upsilon)over bar>(l) have been obtained, corresponding to a total branching fraction: BR((B) over bar –> D pi l(-)<(upsilon)over bar>(l)) + BR((B) over bar –> D*pi l(-)<(upsilon)over bar>(l)) = (3.40 +/- 0.52 (stat) +/- 0.32 (syst))%. This result agrees well with the observed difference between the total B semileptonic branching fraction and the sum of the (B) over bar –> Dl(-) upsilon(l) and D* l(-)<(upsilon)over bar>(l) branching fractions.
