Struct., 210, 517 (1992).Author Institution: National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Prosp. Nauki, 46, 252650 Kiev, Ukraine. The ammonium iodate crystal is as ferroelectric with displacing type phase transition , Polarized temperature variable lowfrequency Raman scattering studies in the phase transition region are presented. Measurements of peak positions of ``external'' rotational and translation optical modes and their half-widths allow to detect the orientation disorder and help to determine its character as well as a mechanism of the phase transition to the ordered phase. It appeared to be continuous and of the mixed displacing and order-disorder character. Quantitative analysis of the spectra according to lattice dynamics theories and using NQR have been performed. Previous literature data are reviewed and the apparent discrepancies concerning the transition processes are elucidated on the basis of the present results
Polar mesosphere summer echoes during the July 2000 solar proton event
International audienceThe influence of the solar proton event (SPE) 14?16 July 2000 on Polar Mesosphere Summer Echoes (PMSE) is examined. PMSE were observed by the Esrange VHF MST Radar (ESRAD) at 67°53'N, 21°06'E. The 30MHz Imaging Riometer for Ionospheric Studies IRIS in Kilpisjärvi (69°30'N, 20°47'E) registered cosmic radio noise absorption caused by ionisation changes in response to the energetic particle precipitation. An energy deposition/ion-chemical model was used to estimate the density of free electrons and ions in the upper atmosphere. Particle collision frequencies were calculated from the MSISE-90 model. Electric fields were calculated using conductivities from the model and measured magnetic disturbances. The electric field reached a maximum of 91mV/m during the most intensive period of the geomagnetic storm accompanying the SPE. The temperature increase due to Joule and particle heating was calculated, taking into account radiative cooling. The temperature increase at PMSE heights was found to be very small. The observed PMSE were rather intensive and extended over the 80?90km height interval. PMSE almost disappeared above 86km at the time of greatest Joule heating on 15 July 2000. Neither ionisation changes, nor Joule/particle heating can explain the PMSE reduction. Transport effects due to the strong electric field are a more likely explanation. Key words. Meteorology and atmospheric dynamics (middle atmospheric dynamics), ionosphere (ionospheric disturbances; solar radiation and cosmic ray effects

Silicon detectors for gamma-ray and beta spectroscopy
Large active volume Si(Li) detectors were successfully developed for gamma-ray spectrometry at room temperature that show a sufficient efficiency and an energy resolution that is better than scintillation detectors. The higher efficiency of the proposed detectors with respect to normal silicon diodes is achieved by increasing the active volume. For this purpose special attention is given to the selection of the initial material which has to show homogeneous electrophysical parameters, low concentration of oxygen impurities and high structural perfection. The technique of using lithium ions is used as these drift into large depths and hence the profile of the impurity distribution is optimized

FREQUENCIES OF STRETCHING AND BENDING VIBRATIONS FOR TWO-DIMENSIONAL H-BOND MODEL IN IR SPECTRA
Author Institution: National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Prosp. Nauki, 46. 252650 Kiev, Ukraine. On the base of one-dimensional Morse potential for the first time the surface of the two-dimensional asymmetric potential for proton of hydrogen bond have been received where and are parameters of the one-dimensional one-minimum potential. According to this potential and the method been developed the free energy F of the H-bond chain system has been calculated. From minimality condition of F the system of a two equations for the both proton frequencies has been received. The dependencies of this frequencies on the crystal temperature and on the length of H-bond were obtained. In the calculations the mutual influence of the stretching and bending vibrations was taken into account, which is of special interest near the H-bond critical length. The agreement of the theory and experimental data was obtained. It was shown that the dependence of the bending vibrations on H-bond length has an opposite character as compared with that of the stretching . 1. S. Tanaka, Phys. Rev. B42, 10488 (1990). 2. E. A. Dietary iron intervention using a staple food product for improvement of iron status in female runners.
This article has been made available through the Brunel Open Access Publishing Fund.Adequate nutrient intake is critically important for achieving optimal sports performance. Like all athletes, female runners require a nutritionally balanced diet to maintain daily activities and a successful training regime. This study investigates the effects of cereal product based dietary iron intervention on iron status of recreational female runners (n = 11; 32 ± 7yr; 239 ± 153 minutes exercise/week, of which 161 ± 150 minutes running activity/week; VO2max 38 ± 4 ml/kg/min)
