Chemistry of sulphenyl halides and sulphenamides
The chemistry of sulphenyl halides. sulphenamides and related compounds has been reviewed several times in a comprehensive way' . l8 . The reader should therefore refer to these articles for a detailed account of the extremely rich chemistry of these compounds . The aim of the present chapter is to present the most significant advances in the chemistry of sulphenyl halides and sulphenamides. from both the synthetic and theoretical point of view . Therefore only the most important classes of compounds and their reactions will be reviewed
Substrate modulation of the activity of an artificial nanoesterase made of peptide-functionalized gold nanoparticles
Nanozymes with a heart of gold: A functional artificial protein has been prepared by grafting a dodecapeptide onto the surface of gold nanoparticles. The system catalyzes the hydrolysis of carboxylate esters and features enzyme-like properties
Coordination modes of 9-methyladenine in cis-platinum(II) complexes with dimethyl(phenyl)phosphanes as ancillary ligands - Synthesis and characterization of cis-[PtL2(9-MeAd)(2)](NO3)(2),cis-[PtL2{9-MeAd(-H)}](3)(NO3)(3), and cis-[L2Pt{9-MeAd(-H)}PtL2](NO3)(3)
Treatment of 9-methyladenine (9-MeAd) with cis[PtL2(NO3)(2)] (1) (L = PMe2Ph) in a 2:1 molar ratio generated the bis(adduct) cis-[PtL2(9-MeAd)(2)](NO3)(2) (2), which was isolated and fully characterized by multinuclear (H-1, P-31, C-13, Pt-195 and N-15) NMR analysis, which showed that the two nucleobases are selectively coordinated through the N1 atom. Small amounts of a mono(adduct) cis-[PtL2(S)(9-MeAd)](2+) (3) (S = solvent) and of a diplatinated species cis-[L2Pt(S){9MeAd(-H)]PtL2](3+) (4) are formed in DMSO solution when 9MeAd is present in smaller quantities than 1. Complex 3 is platinated at N1, with a solvent molecule representing the fourth ligand around the metal center. Complex 4 contains an adenine molecule deprotonated and platinated at N1,N6,N7, with two cis-L2Pt units bonded to nitrogen atom N1 and to nitrogen atoms N6 and N7, respectively. With increasing relative concentration of the nucleobase, both complexes 3 and 4 progressively convert into the bis(adduct) 2, the only species detectable in solution when the Ad/Pt molar ratio is 2:1. The trinuclear compound cis-[L2Pt{9-MeAd(-H)}](3)(NO3)(3) (5)
Nanozymes: Functional Nanoparticles-based Catalysts
This short review highlights recent results on the use of nanoclusters of gold protected by a monolayer of functional ligands in both molecular recognition and catalysis. Particular emphasis is given to the multivalent properties of these systems and, in the case of catalysis, to the cooperativity between functional groups present in the ligands of the monolayer. The outstanding catalytic efficiency of some of the functional nanoparticles synthesized led us to call them nanozymes by analogy with the activity of catalytic polymers (synzymes)
Reversible aggregation/deaggregation of gold nanoparticles induced by a cleavable dithiol linker
Aqueous solutions of Au colloids (12 +/- 4 nm size) when treated with a blend of mono- and dithiols aggregate forming stable clusters, as evidenced by the shift of their surface plasmon (SP) band from 512 to ca. 600 nm. The presence of carboxylate ester functions on the dithiol allows its cleavage by addition of a cleaving agent, such as hydrazine. The cleavage process results in the breaking down of the clusters of nanoparticles and the shift of the SP band back to lower wavelengths. Further addition of dithiol causes the formation of the clusters again. The aggregation/deaggregation process may be monitored visually by following the color change from pink-red to purple and vice versa in the forward and backward steps, respectively
Anti-1,4,5,8-tetrahydro-1,4-5,8-dimethanonaphthalene (sesquinorbornadiene), A Molecule With 3 Parallel, Coplanar, and Interacting Double-bonds
Anti-1,4,5,8-Tetrahydro-1,4;5,8-dimethanonaphthalene (sesquinorbornadiene)(1), a molecule possessing six electrons distributed in three parallel double bonds set in one plane and within an interacting through-space distance, has been synthesized
Functional Gold Nanoparticles for Recognition and Catalysis
Gold nanoparticles passivated by a monolayer of functional thiolates represent a new promising tool in supramolecular chemistry since they allow the preparation of complex, self-organized, polyvalent structures with a very modest synthetic effort. These systems have sizes comparable to those of many biological molecules including proteins and nucleic acids, and to those of many cellular sub-structures. In this way they are good candidates to model recognition processes and to develop new biomimetic catalysts. Some interesting examples towards these goals are reviewed briefly
