Analysis of the poverty in rural area of Maubin District, Ayeyarwady region (Kyi Kyi Win, 2021)
The study is an analysis of the poverty in rural area of Maubin District,
Ayeyarwady Region. The objectives of the study are to identify the income inequality,
to measure the headcount index, poverty gap index, poverty gap squared index, poverty
index and to examine the causes of poverty there. Gini coefficient showing with Lorenz
Curve is used for the measure of income inequality, and the method revealed by Foster,
Joel Greer & Erik Thorbecke (1984) is used for the measure of poverty. Binary Logistic
Regression analysis is applied to analyze the causes of poverty. Gini coefficient is
0.597, showing a high inequality and a severe gap of consumption in the study area.
Poverty line of the study area is determined at 1551 Kyats per capita a day. It is found
that 45.9 percent of population is the poor. Binary Logistic Regression analysis shows
that male headed households, family size of 4 to 6 and above 6 members, employment
type of general worker and no access to national grid electricity access are more likely
to happen poverty. Characteristics of household heads, which are age of household
heads from 40 to 49 years and 50 years and above, middle school, high and higher
education level of household heads, land owner, fly proof toilet condition and clean
water availability, are less likely to happen poverty cet.par. By providing mass
production of agricultural produces, by establishing the agro-based value-added
manufacturing industries, by promoting the vocational schools and technology
improvement, by developing the electricity access, farm land access, water supply and
health awareness, it can create highly paid job opportunities to eliminate poverty in the
study area. Attempts to apply income redistribution programs are also needed to be
worked out poverty challenge in Maubin District
Microfinance Performance of Income Generation in Nyaung Don Township, Ayeyarwaddy Region
The purpose of the study is to examine the performance of microfinance for farm and nonfarm household income istribution, to find out the sources of livelihood in the rural areas and to gauge its benefits and drawbacks. It is used the method of earson correlation analysis to find out whether microfinance loans determine the households’ income generation or not. The paper studies the microfinance performance on income generation by observing the occupational choice, job diversification, sources of household income, income determinants, and contribution of microfinance to household income. It shows that there is a positive correlation between loans and household income generation, and they are fairly correlated with each other. Also, it reveals that drawbacks may occur if there is a mismanagement microfinance system as well as miss utilization of loans by ome
households. It argues however the insufficient financial assistance is the most important factor to be improved in order to achieve the effective and efficient utilization of adequate loans, resulting in the better economic well beings. With respect to the expectation, findings will call for policy recommendations, and more effective policy implementations on providing financial assistance to rural areas aiming at regional development of Nyaung Don Township where landless households are (88.7%)of total population in 201
A Geographical Analysis on the Distribution Pattern of Tea Shops in Thakayta Township
Most of the life style of urban dwellers changes with time. They preferred to use
ready-made foods for ready to have. There are many types of fast food shops among them.
Tea shop is focus in this study. Most of the urban residents are getting into the habit of taking
tea and coffee at least twice a day. This study tries to depict the spatial distribution pattern
and functions of the tea shop in the Thakayta Township. The main objectives are to study the
nature, types and numbers of tea shops, to know the main functions of tea shops and to know
the preparedness for survival in future. This research work is based on interview number of
35 tea shops. The primary data is obtained from interview and observation. The secondary
data is obtained from General Administration Department. Mean Center and Buffer Method
from Arc GIS 10.1 are used to show the distribution pattern of tea shops. For the whole
township, most of the tea shop are distributed mainly along the main roads, junction of streets
and concentrated near the large markets. People who open tea shops in this area can have
wider social network by sitting there and chattering for quiet a longtime. For success in
future, tea shops should be measured cooking master, car parking places, good accessibility
and hygienic foods
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
