    Análise fractal da cabeça da mandíbula em pacientes classes II e III submetidos à cirurgia ortognática : estudo retrospectivo com tomografia computadorizada de feixe cônico

Acredita-se que a posição condilar pós-cirúrgica esteja relacionada a alterações morfológicas pós-operatórias na articulação temporomandibular (ATM), bem como a estabilidade cirúrgica. Dessa forma, o objetivo deste estudo é realizar a análise fractal da cabeça da mandíbula de pacientes classe II e classe III submetidos à CO, analisando as imagens de tomografia computadorizada de feixe cônico (TCFC) um mês antes da cirurgia (T0), um mês após a cirurgia (T1) e seis a oito meses após a cirurgia (T2). A análise fractal foi realizada nas reconstruções coronal e sagital. Para isso, foram selecionadas as regiões de interesse (ROIs) para cada paciente e região avaliada. Os ROIs passaram por um método de processamento descrito por White & Rudolph em 1999. Após o processamento, o cálculo da análise fractal foi realizado utilizando o método de contagem de caixas pela função "Fractal Box Count" do software ImageJ. Ao examinar os diferentes períodos (T0, T1 e T2) entre os pacientes das Classes II e III, não foram identificadas diferenças estatisticamente significantes (p>0,05). Esse achado sugere uma estabilidade nas características fractais da região analisada, independente da classe esquelética. Dessa forma, a CO para correção de más oclusões Classe II e Classe III não demonstrou impacto significativo na microestrutura da cabeça da mandíbula ao longo do tempo.ABSTRACT: One of the challenges of orthognathic surgery (OC) is maintaining the condylar position during osteosynthesis. Post-surgical condylar position is believed to be related to post-operative morphological changes in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), as well as surgical stability. Therefore, the objective of this study is to perform a fractal analysis of the condyle of class II and class III patients undergoing OC, analyzing CBCT images one month before surgery (T0), one month after surgery (T1) and six to eight months after surgery (T2). Fractal analysis was performed on coronal and sagittal reconstructions. For this, regions of interest (ROIs) were selected for each patient and region evaluated. The ROIs underwent a processing method described by White & Rudolph in 1999. After processing, the fractal analysis calculation was performed using the box counting method using the "Fractal Box Count" function of the ImageJ software. When examining the different periods (T0, T1 and T2) between patients in Classes II and III, no statistically significant differences were identified (p>0.05). This finding suggests stability in the fractal characteristics of the analyzed region, regardless of the skeletal class. Therefore, Orthognathic Surgery to correct Class II and Class III malocclusions did not demonstrate a significant impact on the microstructure of the condyle over time.51 f. : il., figs., tabs

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    Eficiência de escaneamento intraoral em hardwares diferentes

    Introdução: Às tecnologias digitais são cada vez mais utilizadas no dia a dia, tendência que também está presente no cotidiano clínico dos dentistas. Na odontologia, a introdução dos termos design auxiliado por computador (CAD) e manufatura auxiliada por computador (CAM) marcou o início de um processo de digitalização. Os dispositivos de escaneamento intraoral evoluíram muito e atualmente estão disponíveis com uma grande variedade de fabricantes. Com os avanços tecnológicos dos dispositivos de escaneamento intraoral, atualmente possuem maior acurácia e menor tempo de varredura, fornecendo maior conforto ao paciente/ dentista. Objetivo: O objetivo deste estudo in vitro foi verificar se existe diferença de performance de escaneamento intraoral (Medit i500) com dois hardwares diferentes. Material e método: Para a obtenção dos escaneamentos foi utilizado o manequim (Pronew, PD100) com 32 dentes hígidos. O escaneamento foi realizado com o scanner intraoral Medit i500 (Medit), com o software Medit Link & iScan (versão V2.4 e V1.4 respectivamente) em 2 notebooks com hardwares diferentes. O escaneamento do manequim foi realizado 10 vezes em cada notebook com o Medit i500, por um único operador(n=20), utilizando a técnica de escaneamento proposto pelo próprio software. Foram observados o tempo de varredura, quantidade de imagens obtidas após a utilização da ferramenta “otimização de imagem” e imagens obtidas por segundo. Foi realizado teste de normalidade de Shapiro-Wilk e o Teste T Pareado para comparação dos resultados entre os dois notebooks, o nível de significância considerado foi de 5%. Resultados: Os resultados obtidos através do Jamovi, utilizando o Test T Pareado tiveram uma diferença estatística significativa (p <0.001). Conclusão: Conclui-se que, a partir da avaliação dos resultados da pesquisa, houve diferenças estatísticas significativas entre a quantidade de imagens obtidas por segundo entre dois hardwares diferentes

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
