No full textTese (doutorado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e Expressão, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos da Tradução, Florianópolis, 2025.O fenômeno de estilo literário é aquilo que automaticamente está associado, tanto por estudiosos da literatura como pelo leitor em geral, ao autor do texto, à sua maneira de construir e apresentar o seu material literário. A mesma visão permanece quando se lê o texto traduzido de outro idioma associando, portanto, a escrita do tradutor e suas caraterísticas estilísticas ao autor da obra na língua original. Isso deixa o próprio estilo do tradutor e a sua maneira de escrever invisíveis. O presente trabalho visa a pesquisar o fenômeno do estilo do tradutor buscando as abordagens, métodos e ferramentas necessários para identificá-lo e trazê-lo à luz. A pesquisa se pauta nos conceitos da subárea da Linguística conhecida hoje como Estilística, uma área que, por sua vez, está conceitualizada e historicamente enraizada nas fundamentações teóricas dos formalistas russos do início do século xx. O presente trabalho também busca um apoio teórico nas ideias e conceitos do filósofo da literatura russo Mikhail Bakhtin. Decidiu-se trazer como objeto dessa análise estilística a tradução recente do livro de Anton Tchekhov A ilha de Sacalina elaborada pelo tradutor brasileiro Rubens Figueiredo para o português brasileiro. A análise apresenta 60 excertos textuais dessa tradução de forma comparativa ao lado dos textos em russo e em inglês para trazer à tona e ressaltar o estilo literário do texto da tradução criado pelo tradutor e não existente no texto-fonte. Dessa maneira chegaremos a reconsiderar na parte final deste trabalho o papel cada vez mais importante do tradutor, percebendo-o como coautor do texto-meta ativamente envolvido no processo da criação literária. Assim sendo, apresentamos as três caraterísticas principais do estilo do texto da tradução intitulados ?Divergências dêiticas?, ?Divergências de substantivação? e ?Divergências de personificação? além das nossas observações e reflexões sobre as consequências e sobre o impacto advindos dessas caraterísticas estilísticas do texto traduzido.Abstract: The phenomenon of literary style is what is automatically associated by a literary scholar and a common reader alike with the text?s author, with his way to construct and present his(her) literary material. The same perception continues even while reading a text translated from another language associating, therefore, the translator?s writing and its stylistic characteristics still with the author of the literary work in its original language. This way of things makes translator?s own style and his way of writing invisible. The research presented herein aims to research the phenomenon of translator?s style looking for approaches, methods and necessary tools to rediscover and reaffirm it. The research establishes itself on the concepts of the subdiscipline of Linguistics currently known as Stylistics that in turn as is conceptualized by and historically rooted in theoretical foundations of Russian formalists of the beginning of twentieth century. The present work also looks for a theoretical support in ideas and concepts of Russian literary philosopher Mikhail Bakhtin. It was decided to bring as an object of the present stylistic analysis the recent translation of Anton Chekhov?s book The Sakhalin Island elaborated by Brazilian translator Rubens Figueiredo into Brazilian Portuguese. The analysis offers 60 textual excerpts of this translation in comparative manner side by side with Russian and English texts to highlight and point out the literary style of the translation text that was created by the proper translator and that is non-existent in the source text. This way in the final section of the present work we come to reconsider the role, each time more important, of the translator as we perceive him this time as a coauthor of the target text actively involved in the process of literary creation. Therefore, we highlight three main stylistic characteristics of translation text titled ?Deictic divergences?, ?Substantivation divergences? and ?Personification divergences? besides our observations and reflections on the consequences and on the impact resulting from these stylistic characteristics of the translation text
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
