This article provides an insight into the evaluation of the German-Italian section dedicated to reviews within the framework of the TransLab project. Through selected examples, it describes the challenges that reviews pose in the translation process from German into Italian and highlights the didactic potential that this text type has for the training of future translators. At the same time, the analysis shows which assistance trainee translators need in order to achieve an adequate translation performance of a review from German into Italian. The insights are to be incorporated into the editorial work of the TransLab platfor

"Sehr geehrter Herr Sektionschef!" Oder: Wie aus einem Appell (fast) eine Obligation wird. Der Brief in Franz Werfels Novelle Eine Blaßblaue Frauenschrift

Reasearch has shown how textlinguistics and the analysis of dialogue can contribute to a deeper understanding of a literary text. The present article uses tools from these frameworks to analyse the novel “Eine blaßblaue Frauenschrift” by Franz Werfel. By shifting the focus to the letter as one of the main aspects of the novel and to the scene of the face-to-face conversation of the protagonist with the sender of the letter, the analysis reveals on the one hand the different characteristics of written and oral communication (the contrast between the two forms of communication) used by the author, and shows on the other hand the problematic personality of the protagonist with his antisemitic sterotypes and prejudices as representative of the socio-political situation in 1936 in Austria

Den (schweren) Weg zum professionellen Schreiben mittels Scaffolding erleichtern. Ein Bericht zu einem Online-Tool der angewandten Sprachwissenschaft

www.WRILAB2.eu/ is an online tool of Applied Linguistics to promote professional and literacy competences in German, Italian, Slovenian and Czech as second and foreign languages. According to the Scaffolding Theory, WRILAB2 provides learners with materials and strategies to support a self-regulated learning process based on their level of knowledge and competence; it thus creates a framework and offers tools for developing professional writing skills. This contribution focuses on some crucial aspects of the EU-project, particularly regarding its technical implementation by means of the Moodle-platform. More specifically, it discusses how the resources of this open-source learning management system were exploited to carry out the project, moving from Linguistic and Writing Research Theory to the adoption of the Scaffolding approach. Special attention is paid to the conception and impact of instruction and mediation texts, the so-called prompts, on the basis of the twelve German-language Moodle units. Finally, the positive and critical aspects of the tool are compared

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
