    Integrated disease management using environmental control in tea fields

    The occurrence of plant disease depends on interactions between the host plant, a pathogen, and the environment in a dynamic called "the disease triangle". Bacterial shoot blight (BSB) disease, caused by _Pseudomonas syringae_ pv. _theae_ (_Pst_), is a major bacterial disease of tea plants in Japan and substantially reduces tea productivity. BSB mainly occurs in the low-temperature season, and lesion formation by _Pst_ is enhanced by both low temperature and the presence of ice nucleation-active _Xanthomonas campestris_ (INAX), which catalyses ice formation at -2 to -4^o^C and is frequently co-isolated with _Pst_ from tea plants^5^. Low temperature is thus the most important environmental factor to influence the incident; however, the effects of environmental controls in fields on the occurrence of the disease are poorly understood. Here we show that the natural incidence of BSB in the field is closely related to low temperatures in late autumn. Frost protection in late autumn, which protected tea plants against extremely low temperatures, significantly decreased the incidence of BSB, and frost protection combined with bactericide application held the incident under the economic threshold level. Our data indicate that environmental control in the field based on microbial interactions in the host offers a new strategy for plant disease control using integrated plant disease management based on the disease triangle concept

    Tea is a widely-consumed daily life product, which is claimed to be very advantageous for health. But it may have negative effects on health, too. Consuming tea with a hungry stomach causes stomachache, and doctors say that this is because the tea is acidic. This investigation aims to determine if four types of teas (Rosehip Fruit tea, Linden Herbal Tea, Sage Herbal Tea and Gren Tea with Lemon) are acidic or not. This investigation is important in the sense that the way the tea is consumed may be limited. Determining if the tea is acidic or not may effect the habits of many people about tea consumption. In order to determine if the tea is acidic or not, I used the titration method. Titration is a technique in which the molarity of a solution can be found by using a strong base or acid with a known molarity and volume. At the end of my trials, I found out that these four types of teas are all acidic. These results showed me that Rosehip Fruit Tea is the most acidic one among all, and the Linden Herbal Tea is the one closest to the neutral.     Abstract: Tea is an important commodity in East Africa. Kenya is the major tea producer, followed by Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda. The growth in the tea sector has led to development of Kenya’s economy. Tea sector in Kenya is dominated by smallholders along with investments by private companies. East African Tea Trade Association (EATTA) was formed to develop the tea trade in Africa. Kenyan tea sector is also facing challenges, such as lack of infrastructure for transport, restrictions in government policies, climate change and the competition to Mombasa tea auction from Dubai auction centre.     Obiteljska poduzeća kao oblik mikro i malog poduzetništva čini najveći udio u poduzećima Europske unije. Svako obiteljsko poduzeće se razlikuje od drugih obiteljskih poduzeća i stvoreno je u različite svrhe. Osnivanje obiteljskog poduzeća može obitelji pružiti sigurnu egzistenciju i odvojenost koja je potrebna kako bi se stvorio prostor između obitelji i poduzeća te tako omogućiti da članovi obitelji razmišljaju odvojeno o obitelji poslu bez gubitka fokusa na poslovnu uspješnost. Kako bi se razumjela važnost obiteljskog poduzeća za cjelokupno gospodarstvo, važno je razumjeti povezanost obitelji i poduzeća te način na koji ti odvojeni sustavi zajednički funkcioniraju. Obiteljska poduzeća predstavljaju emocionalno-ekonomski sustav, a zbog obiteljskih veza nerijetko i posebne izazove u ostvarenju pozitivnih poslovnih rezultata i poslovne uspješnosti. Obiteljska poduzeća u Europi predstavljaju između 60% i 70% svih mikro, malih i srednjih poduzeća i kao takva postaju sve važnija u strategijama rasta lokalnih zajednica i nacionalnih gospodarstava. Zahvaljujući uspješnim obiteljskim poduzećima, pokazuju to i primjeri prikazani kroz studije slučaja za potrebe ovog diplomskog rada, doprinosi se stvaranju novih radnih mjesta, promicanju gospodarskog rasta i smanjenju socijalnih i ekonomskih nejednakosti. Pitanja socijalne kohezije, zašite lokalne kulture, zapošljavanja lokalnog stanovništva i održavanja lokalne tradicije poslovanja samo su neka od pitanja na koja odgovor daju obiteljska poduzeća. Na taj način se stvara i održava pozitivna veza između obiteljskih poduzeća i gospodarskog rasta i u Brodsko-posavskoj županiji i može se zaključiti kako su obiteljska poduzeća pokretač gospodarstva ove županije.Family businesses as a form of micro and small business make up the largest share of EU companies. Each family business is different from other family businesses and was created for different purposes. Starting a family business can provide the family with the secure existence and separation needed to create a space between family and business, thus allowing family members to think separately about family work without losing focus on business success. In order to understand the importance of the family business for the whole economy, it is important to understand the connection between the family and the business and how these separate systems work together. Family businesses represent an emotional-economic system, and due to family ties, there are often special challenges in achieving positive business results and business success. Family businesses in Europe represent between 60% and 70% of all micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and as such are becoming increasingly important in the growth strategies of local communities and national economies. Thanks to successful family businesses, the examples presented through case studies for the purposes of this thesis show this, it contributes to the creation of new jobs, the promotion of economic growth and the reduction of social and economic inequalities. Issues of social cohesion, protection of local culture, employment of local population and maintenance of local business tradition are just some of the questions answered by family businesses. In this way, a positive connection between family businesses and economic growth is created and maintained in Brod-Posavina County, and it can be concluded that family businesses are the driver of the economy of this county

    Komunikacija je proces u kojem osobe koje se nalaze u međusobnoj interakciji razmjenjuju informacije, znanja i osjećaje. Komunikacija može biti verbalna i neverbalna, a neverbalna komunikacija podrazumijeva komunikaciju mimo riječi. Ta se komunikacija odvija pomoću znakova i simbola koje je važno razlikovati da bi neverbalna komunikacija bila uspješna. Neverbalna komunikacija, pa tako i komunikacija znakovima i simbolima služi ne samo za slanje poruka već i za izražavanje ideja pa tako znakovi i simboli imaju važnu ulogu u predstavljanju sebe drugima, ali i na pravilan i adekvatan odgovor prema sugovorniku. Simboli u neverbalnoj komunikaciji dobivaju sve više pažnje jer se njihovim točnim tumačenjem i pravilnim razumijevanjem mogu protumačiti želje, misli i osjećaji sugovornika. Simboli, pa tako i tetovaže, izražavaju određene stavove ili pripadnost te stvaraju jasnu viziju o osobi s kojom se komunicira. Cilj ovog završnog rada je utvrditi značenje simbola, uključujući i tetovaže, u neverbalnoj komunikaciji.Communication is a process in which people interactively share information, knowledge and emotions. Verbal and nonverbal are two types of communications. Nonverbal communication implies communication without using words and using signs and symbols. In order to have successful nonverbal communication it is important to distinguish meaning of signs and symbols. Nonverbal communication serves not only for sending messages but also for expressing ideas. Signs and symbols play an important role in presenting yourselves to others and giving a proper and adequate response to the interlocutor. Symbols in nonverbal communication are very important because their correct interpretation and proper understanding can interpret the wishes, thoughts, and feelings of the interlocutor. Symbols, even tattoos express certain attitudes or affiliations and create clear vision of the person. The goal of this graduate thesis is to determine the meaning of symbols, including tattoos in the nonverbal communication

    A potent thromboxane formation inhibitor in green tea leaves

    A ninhydrin positive compound (L2) now identified as 2-amino-5-(N-ethylcarboxyamido)-pentanoic acid, from unprocessed tea leaves was a potent inhibitor of thrombin-stimulated thromboxane formation in rabbit whole blood (Ali and Afzal; Prostaglandins, Leukotrienes and Medicine, 27: 9, 1987). In the present study, processed and unprocessed tea leaf extracts were given to rats to consume for a period of eight weeks. Cholesterol and thromboxane levels were measured in the serum obtained from clotting the blood at 37 degrees C. A significant reduction in thromboxane levels was observed in rats taking unprocessed tea extract. This reduction was equally distributed in adult as well as in juvenile rats. However no appreciable changes in the levels of thromboxane were noticed in the serum of rats taking processed tea extracts. This might be due to the presence of a labile component which is destroyed during the processing of green tea leaves. A decreased level of cholesterol was observed in rats consuming unprocessed tea extract. This decrease could be linked to the decrease in thromboxane levels as observed.
