No full textParticipatory approaches and co-research are increasingly employed in the current moment for exploring barriers to equality. Co-research treats research participants as experts in their own lives and as equal research partners. Research conducted with this orientation is based on research problems drafted by the research participants themselves from their aspirations regarding the research process and an active partnership that considers the interests of all parties involved. Participatory methods are used in co-research, particularly for the purpose of deepening the contextualisation of research knowledge about structurally vulnerable or subordinated groups and to challenge the power positions associated with traditional research designs. In co-research, the role of the people involved in the research is more central than in more traditional research. One of the key principles of co-research is that co-investigators (a) can participate in various roles, (b) have the opportunity to participate in different phases of the research according to their own interests and resources, and (c) co-investigators' participation can take many forms, including differences in intensity. The idea is to provide more people with opportunities to contribute to the knowledge production about themselves and their communities from their respective perspectives and interests. Co-research is also seen as an opportunity to improve the relevance and usefulness of scientific knowledge. It aims to genuinely increase interaction and openness and extend science's societal responsibility. In this book, we approach co-research as a means to promote social justice, as an action with a societal impact contributor to social impact and as a means to promote the societal responsibility of science. We discuss and evaluate the ideals of the co-research process concerning the everyday challenges and practices in research. Above all, we offer the knowledge and experience generated by our own projects to support those planning or already implementing co-research projects

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Get PDFIhmisten yhdenvertaisuuden esteitä tutkitaan yhä useammin osallistavin menetelmin ja kanssatutkimuksen keinoin. Kanssatutkimuksessa tutkimukseen osallistuviin ihmisiin suhtaudutaan oman elämänsä asiantuntijoina ja tasavertaisina tutkimuskumppaneina. Tällöin tutkimuksen lähtökohtana ovat ihmisten itse määrittämät tutkimusongelmat, tutkimusprosessille asetetut toiveet ja kaikkien osapuolten intressit huomioon ottava aktiivinen kumppanuus. Osallistumista tukevia menetelmiä hyödynnetään kanssatutkimuksessa erityisesti rakenteellisesti haavoittuvassa tai alisteisessa asemassa olevia ryhmiä koskevan tutkimustiedon syvemmäksi kontekstualisoimiseksi ja perinteisiin tutkimusasetelmiin liittyvien valtapositioiden horjuttamiseksi.
Kanssatutkimuksessa tutkimukseen osallistuvien ihmisten rooli on keskeisempi kuin perinteisemmässä tutkimuksessa. Kanssatutkimuksen yksi keskeisimmistä periaatteista on se, että kanssatutkijoilla a) voi olla erilaisia rooleja, b) heillä on mahdollisuus osallistua tutkimuksen eri vaiheisiin oman kiinnostuksensa ja resurssiensa mukaan ja c) kanssatutkijoiden osallistuminen voi olla monenlaista, eroja on muun muassa osallistumisen intensiteetissä. Ajatuksena on tarjota yhä useammille ihmisille mahdollisuuksia osallistua heitä itseään ja yhteisöjään koskevan tiedon tuottamiseen omista lähtökohdistaan käsin. Kanssatutkimus nähdään myös mahdollisuutena parantaa tutkimustiedon tarkoituksenmukaisuutta ja hyödynnettävyyttä. Kanssatutkimuksen tarkoituksena on aidosti lisätä vuorovaikutusta ja avoimuutta sekä laajentaa tieteen yhteiskuntavastuuta.
Tässä teoksessa lähestymme kanssatutkimusta sosiaalisen oikeudenmukaisuuden edistäjänä, yhteiskuntaan vaikuttavana toimintana ja tieteen yhteiskuntavastuun edistäjänä. Puntaroimme kanssatutkimuksellisen tutkimusprosessin ihanteita suhteessa tutkimuksen arjesta kumpuaviin haasteisiin ja käytäntöihin. Ennen kaikkea tarjoamme omissa hankkeissamme tuotettua tietoa ja kokemusta kanssatutkimuksellisia tutkimushankkeita suunnittelevien tai niitä jo toteuttavien tueksi.
