    No full text
Der amerikanische Copyright Act, die amerikanische Verfassung zitierend, macht im Vorspann deutlich, dass das Copyright der Beförderung von Kunst und Wissenschaft dienen soll: Thc congress shall have power [...] to promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventars the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries.2 Auch das ist kein Selbstzweck. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Towards Social Information Seeking and Interaction on the Web

User generated content is one of the key concepts of the social web (a. k. a “Web 2.0”) and enables users to search and interact with information that has been created (e.g. blogs) or annotated by other users (e.g. in tagging systems). Consequently, information seeking and interaction have been extended by a social dimension. The interaction can be social in so far that user generated content is searched and retrieved or, in a more direct manner that social interactions are carried out before, during or after search by communicating through Web 2.0 features like (micro-)blog posts, comments, and ratings. This paper focuses on social interactions during the search process by combining a model introduced by Shneiderman (2002) which attempts to describe human motivation for collaboratively using computers with an explorative model for social search by Evans and Chi (2008)

Einbindung von Primärdaten in Digitale Bibliotheken

    Get PDF

Interactive technologies and collaborative phenomena of Web 2.0 offer new opportunities for enhancing higher education. On the one hand E-Learning 2.0 enables changes in formal educational scenarios, for example the incorporation of blog and wikis in single lectures. On the other, hand social technologies and social phenomena of Web 2.0 offers possibilities to build up new information and communication infrastructures to connect all university members. The paper argues that such a rather knowledge management based focus on E-Learning 2.0 in that web 2.0 technologies and social phenomena could and should be seen as a chance to open new communication channels that reach beyond formal course scenarios. These are often not supported by the currently rather restricted or closed learn management systems

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
