Einige Fälle von allophonischem Wechsel von germ. */ō/ in unbetonter Silbe
No full textMit Ausgangspunkt im morphophonologischen Wechsel des germanischen Stammsuffixes -ōn- im Althochdeutschen, wie z.B. zungūn / zungōno, werde ich eine neue Hypothese vorschlagen, die eine diachronisch zweifache allophonische Entwicklung des unbetonten Langvokals germ. */ō/ voraussetzt. Es wird diesbezüglich gezeigt, wie die hohen Endsilbenvokale germ. */i/ und */u/ den Lautwandel auslösen, der erst mit dem darauf folgenden Schwund dieser Vokale zum neuen hohen Endsilbenvokal */ū/ in den altgermanischen Dialekten führt, wie man z.B. in ahd. zungūn < germ. *tungōni (D.Sing.) oder *tungōnun (A.Sing.) sehen kann. In Verbindung damit werde ich auch die diachronische Entwicklung der Dativ-Singular-Endung der germanischen ō-Stamme setzen, die zu zwei verschiedenen Ergebnissen führt: auf der einen Seite got. -ai, ags. -e, und auf der anderen Seite ahd. -u, norr. -o. Wenn man, ähnlich zu den älteren indogermanischen Sprachen, auch für das Urgermanische eine ursprüngliche Dativ-Singular-Endung *-ō-i (< idg. *-ā-i < *-eh2-i) voraussetzt, würde germ. */ō/ in vorletzter unbetonter Silbe, auch in diesem Fall, dialektal durch den darauf folgenden Vokal */i/ phonetisch beeinflusst werden und somit ein höheres Allophon entwickeln, das sich in den historisch belegten Endungen ahd. -u und norr. -o widerspiegelt

Traces of Suffix Ablaut in Germanic wō-stems
No full textMany of the jō-stems of Germanic were in fact ī/jō-stems that go back to ablauting iH/ieH-stems of Proto-Indo-European. The Germanic wō-stems go back to PIE uH/ueHstems with parallel ablaut behaviour to the iH/ieH-stems. Whereas the suffix variant in -ū has nowhere been preserved as such in Germanic, some traces of ablaut and accent variation remain in the Germanic wō-stems. Some such traces were first identified by Kroonen (2013); in this paper, the authors present a more detailed collection of the evidence for ablauting uH-stems in Germanic
