Not a Black Moor but a Brahmin-Christian Moor: Shakespeare's Othello in Early Postcolonial Indian Cinema
No full textInternational audienceIn William Shakespeare’s Othello, Iago manipulates the Moorish general Othello into killing his Venetian wife Desdemona. The murder signals not only the end of their love story but also the end of the play itself. On the contrary, the black-and-white Indian film Saptapadi (1961, dir. Ajoy Kar) has the lead characters Krishnendu Mukherjee and Rina Brown enact the beginning of Act 5, Scene 2 where Othello kills Desdemona, which ironically ends up marking the starting point of their love story. This paper will contrast the marginalisation of Shakespeare's character of Othello with the multiple privileges enjoyed by Saptapadi's male protagonist Krishnendu

It has been shown that the CAN bus can be accessed by remote attackers to disrupt/manipulate normal vehicular operations. Heavy-duty vehicles, unlike their lighter counterparts, follow a common set of communication standards (SAE J1939) and are often used for transporting critical goods, thereby increasing their asset value. This work deals with the internal communication security of heavy-duty vehicles and is aimed at detecting /preventing malicious activities that can adversely affect human lives and company fortunes reliant on such modes of transportation.CSU Ventures Drivers of Innovation - Platinum award
Review: The Gene: An Intimate History. By Siddartha Mukherjee
No full textDr. Siddhartha Mukherjee, author of the highly regarded and Pulitzer Prize winning The Emperor of All Maladies, has undertaken what he terms as an “intimate history” of the gene. Mukherjee’s medical credentials are impressive, yet they are also atypical for research and writing on the history of science. The Gene is impeccably written and expands our understanding of a well-known history through his unique viewpoint. In fact, Mukherjee’s work is reminiscent of another Pulitzer Prize winner, Jared Diamond. Originally a physiologist, Diamond, is best known for applying his scientific viewpoint to the Spanish Conquest in his 1997 Pulitzer Prize winning Gun’s Germs, and Steel.

Colonial Institutions and Civil War Indirect Rule and Maoist Insurgency in India
No full textWhat explains the peculiar spatial variation of Maoist insurgency in India? Mukherjee develops a novel typology of colonial indirect rule and land tenure in India, showing how they can lead to land inequality, weak state and Maoist insurgency. Using a multi-method research design that combines qualitative analysis of archival data on Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh states, Mukherjee demonstrates path dependence of land/ethnic inequality leading to Maoist insurgency. This is nested within a quantitative analysis of a district level dataset which uses an instrumental variable analysis to address potential selection bias in colonial choice of princely states. The author also analyses various Maoist documents, and interviews with key human rights activists, police officers, and bureaucrats, providing rich contextual understanding of the motivations of agents. Furthermore, he demonstrates the generalizability of his theory to cases of colonial frontier indirect rule causing ethnic secessionist insurgency in Burma, and the Taliban insurgency in Pakistan
A universal explicit electron correlation correction applied to Mukherjee's multi-reference perturbation theory
No full textWe present a universally applicable explicit electron correlation (F12) correction and apply it to Mukherjee's multi-reference perturbation theory (Mk-MRPT2). Two different F12 corrections are proposed: one is a universal F12 correction which is added to the conventional orbital correction, which is referred to as Mk-MRPT2+F12. In the second type of F12 correction the individual F12 contributions are added to each matrix element of the effective Hamiltonian. Subsequent diagonalization yields the Mk-MRPT2-F12 correction. Thereby, we achieve for both F12 corrections the accuracy of a quadruple-zeta basis set calculation when a triple-zeta basis set is employed and the F12 correction is added. Both F12 corrections reduce to MP2-F12/1A (fixed) in the single-reference limit. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. Supplier selection: an MCDA-based approach

It is targeted to serve two audiences: the MBA and PhD student interested in procurement, and the practitioner who wishes to gain a deeper understanding of procurement analysis with multi-criteria based decision tools to avoid upstream risks to get better supply chain visibility. The book is expected to serve as a ready reference for supplier selection criteria and various multi-criteria based supplier’s evaluation methods for forward, reverse and mass customized supply chain. This book encompasses several criteria, methods for supplier selection in a systematic way based on extensive literature review from 1998 to 2012. It provides several case studies and some useful links which can serve as a starting point for interested researchers. In the appendix several computer code written in MatLab and VB.NET is also included for the interested reader. Lucid explosion of various techniques used to select and evaluate suppliers is one of the unique characteristic of this book. Moreover, this book gives in depth analysis of selection and evaluation of suppliers for traditional supply chain, closed loop supply chain, supply chain for customized product, green supply chain, sustainable supply chain and also depicts methods for supply base reduction and selection of large number of suppliers
