Facing Death Honestly: Author-Developed Psychological Support Practice

No full text
This OSF project documents the author-developed psychological support practice “Facing Death Honestly” (Russian original: «Со смертью на ты»), created by Valery Kravitz between 2021 and 2025. The practice is designed as a structured psychological support intervention for individuals confronting awareness of life’s finitude due to severe illness, existential crises, or other significant life events. The project provides documentation of the theoretical foundations, structured session protocol, ethical framework, and supporting materials of the practice. The Human Services Support System, Lecture by Sandy Kravitz, Sep. 25, 1987Miami: Where we are, where we are going Lecture Series Friday, September 25, 1987 10:30AM – 12 noon Speaker: Sanford Kravitz Professor Sandford Kravitz will analyze the current status of volunteerism in Dade County and the availability of public sector programs for children, families, the handicapped and the homeless. He will also focus on the services available for special needs clientele and the unmet needs of particular populations in our County. FIU Institute for Public Policy and Citizenship StudiesDuring the Fall of 1987 the Institute for Public Policy and Citizenship Studies offered a lecture series titled, “Miami: Where we are, where we are going”, as part of the International Student Orientation Program. The pilot program was designed to give the students an introduction to Dade County and Miami from a variety of perspectives and was used to develop a liberal studies honors course, “Miami: an Urban Laboratory” (PUP3991) offered in the Fall of 1988. The lectures were presented by faculty scholars on the “State of Dade County and Miami” past, present, and future

Sound production during agonistic behavior of maleDrosophila melanogaster

Male Drosophila fruitflies acquire and defend territories in order to attract females for reproduction. Both, male-directed agonistic behavior and female-directed courtship consist of series of recurrent stereotypical components. Various studies demonstrated the importance of species-specific sound patterns generated by wing vibration as being critical for male courtship success. In this study we analyzed the patterns and importance of sound signals generated during agonistic interactions of male Drosophila melanogaster. In contrast to acoustic courtship signals that consist of sine and pulse patterns and are generated by one extended wing, agonistic signals lack sine-like components and are generally produced by simultaneous movements of both wings. Though intra-pulse oscillation frequencies (carrier frequency) are identical, inter-pulse intervals are twice as long and more variable in aggression signals than in courtship songs, where their precise temporal pattern serves species recognition. Acoustic signals accompany male agonistic interactions over their entire course but occur particularly often after tapping behavior which is a major way to identify the gender of the interaction partner. Since similar wing movements may either be silent or generate sound and wing movements with sound have a greater impact on the subsequent behavior of a receiver, sound producing wing movements seem to be generated intentionally to serve as a specific signal during fruit fly agonistic encounters.Male Drosophila fruitflies acquire and defend territories in order to attract females for reproduction. Les lendemains de l'arrêt Kravitz : la responsabilité du fabricant dans une perspective de réforme

In the milestone case of Kravitz v. General Motors, the Supreme Court of Canada has recently confirmed that a contract of sale confers on the buyer a right of action against the manufacturer, as distinct from the seller, under the legal warranty against latent defects. The obligation to answer for latent defects is inherent in the sale, and the action to enforce that obligation becomes available, as a incidental right, to subsequent owners of the thing sold, who may proceed directly against the manufacturer. This important case reinforces the prevalent tendency in Quebec case-law and legal writing towards better safeguards for the consumer. Interesting vistas are opened in this paper by comparing the principles underlying the Supreme Court's decision in Kravitz with French and American rules on manufacturer's liability. This exercise further highlights the significance of Kravitz in regard of the present state of the law and of legislative reforms currently under consideration

ANTI- SEMITISM IN THE APPRENTICESHIP OF DUDDY KRAVITZ

The Canadian writer Mordecai Richler’s The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, the novel that established and popularized him as a significant novelist, explains the Jewish ghetto of Montreal. It depicts the struggles of David (Duddy) Kravitz, a fifteen year old young Jewish boy from the working class, who became rich. He, however, reaches the target by various relations. Although Fletcher’s Field High School (FFHS) is basically Jewish school, the students in the school belong to the various Gentile communities such as Anglo-Saxons, Ukrainians, Poles, and Yugoslavs. In such schools teachers face students from a variety of social classes, religions, cultural and language groups. It provides diverse students an equal chance in school and in contributing to building healthy communities and societies and at the same time an opportunity of anti-Semitism which creates prejudice against another culture

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
