The Vandana Shiva Reader
“Her great virtue as an advocate is that she is not a reductionist. Her awareness of the complex connections among economy and nature and culture preserves her from oversimplification. So does her understanding of the importance of diversity.”—Wendell Berry, from the foreword
Motivated by agricultural devastation in her home country of India, Vandana Shiva became one of the world’s most influential and highly acclaimed environmental and antiglobalization activists. Her groundbreaking research has exposed the destructive effects of monocultures and commercial agriculture and revealed the links between ecology, gender, and poverty.
In The Vandana Shiva Reader, Shiva assembles her most influential writings, combining trenchant critiques of the corporate monopolization of agriculture with a powerful defense of biodiversity and food democracy. Containing up-to-date data and a foreword by Wendell Berry, this essential collection demonstrates the full range of Shiva’s research and activism, from her condemnation of commercial seed technology, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and the international agriculture industry’s dependence on fossil fuels, to her tireless documentation of the extensive human costs of ecological deterioration.
This important volume illuminates Shiva’s profound understanding of both the perils and potential of our interconnected world and calls on citizens of all nations to renew their commitment to love and care for soil, seeds, and people.
Vandana Shiva is the director of Navdanya in India. A physicist, philosopher, and feminist, she is the author of more than twenty books and the recipient of more than twenty international awards.
The Vandana Shiva Reader provides an important East-West agrarian bridge connecting two of the world’s great democracies and their struggles with industrial agriculture as it drives out sustainable alternatives, destroying both ecosystems and human communities along the way. To read Dr. Shiva’s work is to feel the power of a fertile theoretical mind engaged in fierce and inspirational acts of resistance. Hers is a unique voice. -- Bill Vitek, coeditor of The Virtues of Ignorance: Complexity, Sustainability, and the Limits of Knowledge
Vandana Shiva stands alone as an powerful critic of industrial agriculture. The clarity of her voice and the commitment of her life work are evident in this reader. Evidence of convective transport in tropical West Pacific region during SHIVA experiment
Air masses in the convective outflows of four large convective systems near Borneo Island in Malaysia were sampled in the height range 11–13 km within the frame of the SHIVA (Stratospheric Ozone: Halogen Impacts in a Varying Atmosphere) FP7 European project in November and December 2011. Correlated enhancements of CO, CH4 and the short-lived halogen species (CH3I and CHBr3) were detected when the aircraft crossed the anvils of the four systems. These enhancements were interpreted as the fingerprint of vertical transport from the boundary layer by the convective updraft and then horizontal advection in the outflow. For the four observations, the fraction f of air from the boundary layer ranged between 15 and 67%, showing the variability in transport efficiency depending on the dynamics of the convective system

KONSEP EKOFEMINISME VANDANA SHIVA DALAM PERSPEKTIF FILSAFAT LINGKUNGAN HIDUP
ABSTRAK
Skripsi ini mengkaji tentang Konsep Ekofeminisme Vandana Shiva Dalam
Perspektif Filsafat Lingkungan Hidup.
Menurut Shiva, kemerosotan alam termasuk kemerosotan prinsip feminitas.
membantu menciptakan paradigma ekologi baru. Pemikiran ekofeminis Vandana Shiva

ABSTRACT
This thesis examines Vandana Shiva's Ecofeminism Concept in
Environmental Philosophy Perspective. This research is motivated by the flow of
Feminism which demands full equality of rights between men and women which is
an amalgamation of various rights and equality doctrines. The flow of feminism is a
movement that starts from the assumption that women are basically oppressed by the
system of oppression, therefore efforts are needed to stop the injustice of oppression.
One of the most famous ecofeminist figures is Vandana Shiva. Shiva is a Hindu
ecofeminism figure from India besides Shiva changing male dominance and
advocating an alternative solution, namely a combination of theories about ecology
and feminism known as ecofeminism. According to Shiva, the decline of nature
includes the decline of the principle of femininity. This damage is caused by the
existence of a patriarchal-capitalist system, namely a culture that must be controlled
by men, and men must take precedence over women. As a motivator for women to
protect the universe, Vandana Shiva also criticizes the development of other
feminism, because it only focuses on equality between men and women, which
according to Shiva eliminates feminist values into the competition between men and
women.
This research is a library research (library research). The author conducts
searches on books, journals, theses, and other documents. The data collection in this
study used a comparative philosophical method, and to analyze the data in this study
used the methods of description, deduction, interpretation and conclusion drawing.
The findings of this study indicate that: 1) Vandana Shiva's ecofeminism
perspective related to environmental issues is influenced by women directly, then
some feminists claim that women occupy the main position in helping to create a
new ecological paradigm. Vandana Shiva's ecofeminist thought is that environmental
education is primarily aimed at making people aware of the existing reality. Vandana
Shiva received a fairly strong influence from Indian cosmological traditions and
views, this is reflected in the Indian cosmological view which he often uses as a point
of view in understanding and explaining the nature of nature. 2) Vandana Shiva's
Ecofeminism in Environmental Philosophy Perspective, namely how the moral
movement struggles to realize gender justice and environmental sustainability. In
outlining his views on gender, Shiva departs from his views on masculine and
feminine categories. According to Shiva, masculine and feminine categories are
social and cultural constructs. The legal culture component will be built when moral
reform has been carried out on the content and structure of the law. Legal culture will
be difficult to build as long as the content and structure of the law is not truly
dedicated to freeing discrimination against women and exploitation of nature. Legal
culture will be difficult to cultivate as long as the law itself is not satisfactory, as long
as the officers who should be on duty do not carry out their duties, as long as the
courts are not a place to seek justice. Moral movements become less effective, easy
to forget and easy to break if they are not followed by strong political will from the
state in the form of policy-making and positive legal norms can be a reference for the
development of forestry laws that are more gender-just and environmentally sound if
they accommodate the feminine value system that is promoted. by Vandana Shiva.
The ethical principles and values developed by Vandana Shiva can be used as the
basis for the development of legal principles in Indonesia. Thus giving birth to
ecofeminist ethical values, moral and legal norms, and noble values.

Exosophy of Vandana Shiva
Ovaj diplomski rad razmatra ekološku filozofiju (ekozofiju) indijske autorice Vandane Shiva. Patenti oduzimaju mogućnost ljudske kreativnosti, a genetički modificirani organizmi čine posljednju točku čovjekova uplitanja u prirodu. This thesis discusses the ecological philosophy (ecosophy) of Indian author Vandana Shiva. The author points out the change in the understanding of the planet Earth from Mother Nature to a resource reduced to simple factors. It is the resources that are the fundamental impetus for colonization and neo-colonization, which, as the author claims, has never ended, nor can it end without radical change. The term biopiracy means the theft of natural assets of Third World countries, and with the help of patents and genetically modified organisms it shows in which ways the Third World is exploited. Patents take away the possibility of human creativity, and genetically modified organisms are the last point of human interference in nature. Human activity on Earth leads to the reduction of biodiversity, to local and global ecological crises. The culmination of man's exploitation of nature is manifested in climate change, which the production system, which created them, exploits them to its advantage and thus deepens the problem of climate change, while masking them as the responsibility of the individual. As a fundamental problem, the author cites the system of production - capitalism, which tries to make the most of the last resource of the Earth. However, not only does such a system exploit nature, it does so with humans – it exploits them, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. The solution to the problems of patents, biopiracy, neocolonialism, climate change, exploitation, etc. will not be reached until there is a change in the system

Iconography analysis of flower and animal ornaments on the prabhamandala of Shiva statue of the National Museum Indonesia: Analisis ikonografi ornamen bunga dan binatang pada prabhamandala arca Siwa koleksi Museum Nasional Indonesia
Shiva is one-third of the highest Gods in Hindu religion, who together with Brahma and Vishnu form Trimurti. The worship of Shiva is embodied in the form of lingga or a statue, decorated with distinctive ornaments and attributes commonly depicted to identify Shiva. A statue with inventory number 29a/3184 in the National Museum Indonesia depicts Siwa with flower and animal ornament which have never been found in other Shiva statues. This article aims to investigate the religious concept flourished during the making of this statue by conducting an iconographic analysis on the said ornaments. Through a descriptive-explanatory approach, the author suggests that the Indian lotus (padma) and goose (hamsa) ornaments are the representation of Shaiva Siddhanta rite practiced during XIII-XIV century CE in the eastern Java
The following essay aims at a comprehensive approach to current environmental problems, considering the proposal as a primary source of the Indian writer and environmentalist Vandana Shiva. So, she writes from her experience and focused on the events in their country of origin, its proposal reaches the philosophical and epistemologists that could be at the root of the ecological crisis, those that transcend territorial boundaries and intellectuals for explanation and possible answers to the problem. The text addresses the current state of things following the analysis and reflection of the author, which reveals the connection of the various factors that promote this crisis, and the mechanisms put in place, principally through dissemination and entrenchment of the idea of an ecological dispossession, also that of a devaluation of life, to be linked to the possibility of a paradigm shift.
