Brief Note: Smooth-billed Ani (Crotophaga ani L.), a New Species of Bird for Ohio
Author Institution: Department of Biology, John Carroll University ; Department of Vertebrate Zoology, The Cleveland Museum of Natural HistoryA smooth-billed ani (Crotophaga ani L.) is reported from Ohio for the first time. The specimen (CMNH 68471) also represents the first inland state record for the United States. Confirmation of specific identity was obtained because of the significance of the record and some equivocal characteristics of the specimen. Care in field identification of extralimital anis is suggested

Neither Priests nor Clowns: Attitudes Towards the Postsecular Turn in Anthropology
The article discusses the issue of the postsecular turn in contemporary anthropology, taking into account the cultural processes involved in its emergence. The author attempts to identify research areas and issues worthy of exploring within this turn, and at the same time she considers the boundary conditions for its usefulness in scientific research. Referring to the recent anthropological literature on this topic, the author distinguishes two leading epistemological attitudes involved in this turn: the one that acknowledges the supernatural dimension of revelation and the one that sees it as a social fact. Both are heterogenous and each sees the relationship between anthropology and theology differently. Discussing some anthropological views in this regard, the author aims to revive the dialogue between researchers from various social and human sciences representing the postsecular turn. On the one hand, this dialogue can initiate new paths of mutual inspiration and co-thinking; on the other hand, it may lead to more conscious distinctions between different varieties of postsecular reflection.
A TUTORIAL GUIDE TO THE ANI ANIMATION SYSTEM
ANI is a three dimensional animation control program. It was developed in
the department of Computer Science at the University of Calgary as part
of the graphics land environment. ANI works as an animation environment
that easily defines many types of different animation techniques. Although
ANI was not designed for the non-experienced computer user, it should not
be very hard to master enough of the concepts and commands to start doing
basic animation very quickly.
ANI works very closely with a system called PG (Polygon Groper), and can
only animate objects created in PG. For those of you who would like to
advance to sophisticated animation techniques, I highly recommend that
you learn the basics of, and become familiar with PG.
ANI was not designed to handle real-time animation (being able to see
things move in front of you immediately), although some limited facilities
exist to do this. Rather ANI was designed to create all of the individual
pictures, which would then later be put on film or video tape.
I will be mentioning various programs throughout this manual. For the
location of these programs in your particular installation, please refer

“...NON AVEVA IL SESSO RICOPERTO DAL MUSCHIO” La raccolta collettanea Ani labuť ani Lůna (1936) e la critica sul Diario del 1835 di K. H. Mácha come manifesto estetico, etico e filosofico dei surrealisti cechi
The paper aims to investigate the Surrealist interpretations of the poet Karel Hynek Mácha (1810-
1836), proposed in the collective volume Ani labuť ani Lůna (Nor the Swan nor the Moon, 1936). Published
with a clear polemical intention, it contains numerous criticisms of the official celebrations for the centenary
of Mácha’s death: a mythologized image of the author, canonized as “the” Czech romantic poet par excellence,
poet of love as well as patriot. The Surrealists propose, instead, a reflection on the body and the sexual sphere
in Mácha based on his Diary of 1835 and on the parts encrypted by the author. In Ani labuť ani Lůna, the
omission of these parts in the version published posthumously becomes a tool for criticizing bourgeois
morality within the Czechoslovak society of the time, as well shows the State’s exploitation of the figure of
Mácha. After presenting of the contents of the various essays in the publication, I will focus on the
contributions of V. Nezval, Z. Kalandra, K. Teige and B. Brouk and on the “witness-to-the-truth” function
that the Surrealists ascribe to the encrypted parts of the Diary
A Note on Case-Based Optimization with a Non-Degenerate Similarity Function
The paper applies the realistic-ambitious rule for adaptation of the aspiration level suggested by Gilboa and Schmeidler (1996) to a situation in which the similarity between the available acts is represented by a non-degenerate function. The paper shows that the optimality result obtained by Gilboa and Schmeidler (1996) in general fails. With a concave similarity function, the best corner act is chosen in the limit. Introducing convex regions into the similarity function improves the limit choice. A sufficiently fine similarity function allows to approximate optimal behavior with an arbitrary degree of precision.
Structural changes of synthetic paulingite (Na,H-ECR-18) upon dehydration and CO2 adsorption
Funding: EPSRCThe structure of dehydrated calcined ECR-18, synthetic paulingite, topology type PAU, unit cell composition Na132H28Si512Al160O1344, has been determined by Rietveld refinement against synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction data. Upon dehydration the symmetry of Na,H-ECR-18 changes from Im3m to I 43m, with a corresponding decrease of cubic unit cell a parameter from 34.89412(1) A to 33.3488(3) A. This occurs as the framework distorts to afford closer coordination of Na+ cations by framework O atoms in 8-ring window sites of the seven cage types present. Na+ cations in 8R sites block the access of N2 molecules to the internal pore space at 77 K but CO2 adsorption at 308 K is observed, and is postulated to occur via a 'trapdoor' mechanism. In situ PXRD during CO2 adsorption at pressures up to 10 bar show reversible broadening of diffraction peaks that is attributed to local crystallographic strain.Peer reviewe
Investigating current welfare status of the buffalo farms by ANI evaluation method
The Animal Needs Index (ANI) method is used in the study to determine the welfare levels of 58 buffalo farms in the Marmara region of Turkey. The enterprises were divided into 3 subgroups according to their size; (i) small-scale enterprises (n: 19), which have 5 to 19 buffalo cows, (ii) medium-scale enterprises (n: 20), which have 20 to 39 buffalo cows, and (iii) large-scale enterprises (n: 19), which have more than 40 buffalo cows. The farms were visited and evaluated in two seasons according to ANI system. Thirty criteria for locomotion, social interaction, flooring, light and air, and stockmanship categories were evaluated. Most of the farms were determined to be highly suitable for animal welfare according to the ANI method. Although many differences were observed among the enterprises during the visits, it was thought that the buffalo enterprises could not be evaluated with sufficient sensitivity with the help of the ANI method, since these differences cannot be revealed when the total ANI scores were compared. The enterprise scale had no direct effect on the investigated parameters in the study. Considering the deficiencies of the criteria in the study to evaluate the physical characteristics and needs of the buffaloes, it has been concluded that the evaluation methods to be developed to determine the welfare level of buffaloes should consider the species-specific characteristics of the buffaloes. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature B.V.Istanbul Üniversitesi: 32657The authors would like to thank the Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit of Istanbul University for financial contributions to the study (project number: 32657)
Verses, subverses and subversions in contemporary postcolonial poetry : the arts of resistance in the works of Linton Kwesi Johnson and Lesego Rampolokeng
Includes bibliographical references (leaves 136-141).This dissertation seeks to analyse insubordination and resistance manifested in postcolonial and post-apartheid poetry as ways of subverting dominant Western discourses. More specifically, I focus my analysis on textual strategies of resistance in the poetry of Linton Kwesi Johnson and Lesego Rampolokeng. The syncretistic quality in the oeuvres of both poets is related to diaspora, hybridity and crealisation as forms of writ[h]ing against (neo)colonially-based hegemonic discourses. Postcolonial critiques at large will frame this analysis of strategies of domination and resistance, but some discussions from the domain of history, sociology and cultural studies may also enter the debate. In this regard there is a great variety of theories and arguments dealing with the contradictions and incongruities in the question of power relations interconnecting domination and resistance. This study is arranged in three pivotal debates. There is firstly an in-depth discussion of underpinning theories that deal with strategies of domination and resistance in the postcolonial domain This is a threefold task carried out by scrutinising (a) the origins of colonial discourse and its binarist tendencies, (b) the pitfalls of anticolonialist resistance based on dualistic opposites, and (c) the hybrid and insubordinate nature of resistance as an efficient alternative to transcend such binaries. Afterwards I seek to investigate how strategies of diasporic resistance and cultural hybridism employed in the poetry of Linton Kwesi Johnson can contribute to moving away from the limitations of dichotomies and also subvert hegemonic power. And finally, I look at crealisation, mockery and insubordination as strategies of resistance in the postapartheid poetry of Lesego Rampolokeng. Besides that, this project is concerned with the increasing importance of academic studies on postcolonial literatures. The present research aims therefore to analyse postcolonial and post-apartheid poems as strategic techniques to decentre dominant Western rhetoric that tries to naturalise inequalities and injustices in the relations between power holders and the powerless in both local and global contexts
