ADVERSE DRUG REACTION (ADR) STUDY IN HOSPITALIZED HEPATIC CIRRHOSIS PATIENT DR. RAMELAN NAVY HOSPITAL
Background: Cirrhotic liver lead to some changes in pathophysiology such as reduction in liver blood flow, decrease some metabolic and synthetic function of the liver. Also there is a change in endothelial lining from hepatic sinusoid. These changes result in some consequences that are increase in drugs sensitivity and adverse events due to pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic influences.
Objective: To study the most frequent adverse events from drug therapy in hospitalized hepatic cirrhosis patient.
Method: Samples were collected using purposive sampling methods. Both drug therapy and disease progress were followed prospectively until patient discharged from the hospital. Adverse events were recorded and evaluated according to some literature. The association of drug events occurred in patient therapy was determined by Naranjo scale.
Result: Patients involved in this study were 85. The total number of adverse drug events occured in this study was 120 cases. Those include actual ADRs 8.33% (e.g. furosemide induced hyperuricemia, amlodipine induced edema periphery) and potential DRPs 76.67% (e.g. cimetidine and metoclopramide induce changed central nervous system). Outcomes from ADRs observation were resulting in no further morbidity 79.17%, and occurrence new medical problems 5.83%.
Conclusion: The most frequent ADRs occur in this study was cimetidine induce changed central nervous system in hepatic cirrhosis patients. Although the event was potential, it still needs tight monitoring to prevent the occurrence
Management of Hyponatraemia in patients with heart failure, a retrospective study
: Hyponatremia is a common problem in heart failure (HF) patients but, unfortunately, studies reported that it is still rarely recognised or treated adequately. This research was aimed to investigate current management of hy-ponatremia in patients hospitalised from HF at the study site. This research was conducted at Fatmawati Hospital in Jakarta, Indonesia, by including patients hospitalised from HF during 2011 – 2013. Specific information on patients’ information and the administered treatments was only retrieved from medical records. Among 464 patients included in this study, hyponatremia was found in 19% on admission and 22% during hospitalization but 58.8% of 102 hyponatremic patients during hospitalization did not receive specific treatment. Sodium chloride-based treatments were the only administered treatment options in which normal saline was commonly (20.6%) administered to patients with mild hyponatremia. Hyponatremia has been addressed and treatments have been administered but more than half of the hyponatremic patients still did not receive any active treatment
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
EFFECTIVENESS AND MECHANISM OF ACTION OF VANADYL SULFATE IN INCREASING β CELL PROLIFERATION OF DM MICE DUE TO STREPTOZOTOCIN INDUCTION
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia as a result of damage to insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. Vanadyl sulfate is one of the form of vanadium which has begun to be used to treat diabetes in humans. In this study, investigation on the effectiveness of vanadyl sulfate in increasing pancreatic β cell proliferation of diabetes mice due to streptozotocin induction. There were 30 healthy mice were subjected to this experimental study. Findings from this experiment proved that administration of vanadyl sulfate at various doses can significantly increase the amount of pancreatic β cell proliferation and eventually reduced blood glucose levels in a meaningless manner. However, those mice that administrated of vanadyl sulfate at a dose of 30 mg/kgBW had a higher amount of Langerhans Islet than those in the vanadyl sulfate group at a dose of 5 mg/kgBW and 100 mg/kgBW. Similar observations were obtained for the Ki-67 expression. The highest Ki-67 expression was obtained at a dose of 30 mg/kgBW but it decreased with a dose of 100 mg/kgBW of vanadyl sulfate
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
THE INCREASING OF VEGF EXPRESSION AND RE-EPITHELIALIZATION ON DERMAL WOUND HEALING PROCESS AFTER TREATMENT OF BANANA PEEL EXTRACT (MUSA ACUMINATA COLLA)
Objective: The objective of the study was to determine the efficacy of topical administration of an alcoholic bark extract of Musa acuminata Colla on cutaneous wound healing including expression of VEGF and re-epithelization on dermal in rats.
Methods: Model was performed to evaluate the excision model of wound healing activity. Full-thickness excision wounds were made on the back of rat and Musa acuminata Colla extract was topically administered (doses 25%, 50% & 75%). The formation of granulation tissue was observed on day 4, 8, 12 and 16 (post-wound) to indicate VEGF and collagen. The extract increased cellular re-epithelialisation and collagen synthesis at the wound site, shown by increase in VEGF, and total collagen content of granulation tissues. The rate of contraction in wounds was determined by tracing the wound surface onto a transparent graph paper and measuring the surface area by planimetry.
Results: From the observation in EBP, all doses were found to have wound healing activity in wound contraction and period of epithelialization. The increasing of VEGF expression was found greater in the extract treated group than control group. The tensile strength of extract treated group was increased significantly.
Conclusion: The results indicated that Musa acuminata Colla peel extracts has significant wound healing activity
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
