Synthesis and characterization of core-shell electrocatalysts for fuel cells application
Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFCs) is a promising technology supplying electricity by converting the energy stored in chemical fuels into electrical energy. Several challenges impede PEMFC commercialization among them the slow kinetics of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) even on Pt. Core-shell nanoparticles have emerged as a novel class of catalysts with high activity for ORR. A set of PtCu/CNTs alloys have been prepared by microwave-assisted polyol method, the core-shell structure was obtained by electro/chemical dealloying of the prepared alloys in an acidic solution. Depending on the preparation process/parameters the most active catalysts demonstrated up to 4.5 fold enhancement in the ORR activities when compared to the commercial Pt/C catalyst.vorgelegt von Heba Ali Ibrahim Khalil El Dee

An evaluation of online courses in English departments at Palestinian universities during COVID-19 pandemic using the IHEP 2000 quality benchmarks / Mohammed Abdel Hakim Farrah and Heba Khalil Jadallah
Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of educational institutions made a dramatic move from face-to-face (traditional) learning and teaching to online delivery. Accordingly, similar to other universities, Palestinian universities had to cope with this global pandemic and transform from traditional teaching and learning to online learning. This study aims to explore Palestinian university students' and instructors' attitudes toward the shift to online delivery. Precisely, this study aims to explore whether Palestinian Universities fulfilled the international standards of online learning. The researchers utilized two sets of questionnaires to collect data from the various Palestinian universities. The first questionnaire was used to collect data from university students and the second aimed to gather data from University instructors. The participants of the study were 375 students and instructors. The researchers found that those Palestinian university instructors have a tendency to agree that their universities met most IHEP benchmarks for online learning. However, the findings revealed that students had a tendency to have less agreement that online learning met IHEP benchmarks. Finally, the researchers suggested some recommendation
Structural study using 29 Si and 27 Al Solid State MAS NMR and compressive strength analysis of metakaolin-based geopolymer paste
Geopolymers are hardened aluminosilicate gel that develop strength via the crosslinking of tetrahedral silicate and aluminate. Past Research has highlighted a wide range of mechanical properties of geopolymer synthesised from various aluminosilicate materials. This research focuses on studying the effect of variation in the percentages of metakaolin, sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide at a fixed water to solids ratio on the development of geopolymer structure and compressive strength. Kaolin was thermally treated and XRD and FTIR traced the changes in crystalline Kaolin and its transformation into a more disordered structure of metakaolin. Characterisation techniques were used for the study of geopolymer produced. FTIR analysis illustrated the changes in the characteristic bands of metakaolin after being activated with sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide to form geopolymer. The 27Al and 29Si Solid State MAS NMR spectra confirmed the formation of polymerised tetrahedral silicate interconnected to tetrahedral aluminate in the form of Q4(4Al) and Q4(3Al) which are responsible for the attained compressive strength of geopolymer. The produced geopolymers exhibited high early compressive strength and high 28-day compressive strength in the range of 30–81 MPa. This promotes the use of geopolymers as a replacement to Ordinary Portland cement especially in targeted construction applications. This study is part of Ph.D of author Heba Fouad and the PhD was a fellowship granted by Yousef Jameel Foundation. Also, Heba Fouad also would like to show her gratitude to Dr. Abdel Hamid Emwas and Dr. Mariusz Jaremko for conducting Solid State MAS NMR samples in KAUST Core lab

OPRM1 and COMT Gene-Gene Interaction Effects on the Inter-individual Variability in Postoperative Pain and Response to Opioids
Background: Treatment of postoperative pain remains suboptimal. This is attributed, in part, to the individualized physiological and psychological perception of pain. Although the effect of genetic variation on pain is unequivocal, precise understating of the effect of multiple gene interaction is yet to be investigated. Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) interacts with several neuroreceptors in the brain including the mu receptor (OPRM1). Hence, we sought to explore the gene-gene interaction effect of OPRM1 and COMT on postoperative pain and opioid dose required for pain management. Methods: We used genotypes and clinical data for 153 postoperative orthopedic trauma patients. For the COMT gene four single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs6269, rs4633, rs4818 and rs4680), three haplotypes (ACCG, ATCA, and GCGG), and two diplotypes (low and high pain intensity) were considered for their interactions with A118G of OPRM1 on postoperative pain and opioid consumption. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression. Analyses were repeated including only the Caucasian subjects. Results: For postoperative opioid consumption; a significant interaction was found between OPRM1 and COMT rs4680 (b=0.093, p=.037) and OPRM1 and COMT rs4633 (b=0.097, p=.037). The interactions between OPRM1 and COMT rs6269 and OPRM1 and COMT diplotypes demonstrated trends toward significance (b=-0.075, p=.080 and b=0.071, p=.070, respectively). The results for OPRM1×COMT rs4680 and OPRM1×COMT rs4633 on opioid consumption were maintained even after restricting the analyses to only Caucasian subjects. For postoperative pain scores, a significant interaction was found between OPRM1 and the GCGG haplotype of COMT (b=-0.926, p=.017). The interaction between OPRM1 and COMT rs4818 demonstrated a trend (b=-0.755, p=.060). When the sample was limited to only Caucasian subjects, only a trend was observed for the interaction effect of OPRM1 and the GCGG haplotype of COMT on postoperative pain (p= .070). The interactions of OPRM1×ACCG haplotype and OPRM1×diplotypes of COMT also showed trends toward significance (b=1.110, p= .058 and b=0.831, p= .050, respectively). Conclusion: OPRM1×COMT interactions may influence the variability in postoperative pain and response to opioids. Individualized pain management based on genetic variation can be an effective strategy to maximize the usefulness of pain management

Method: The study used a qualitative, abductive approach and included ten semi-structured interviews with registered real estate agents in Stockholm and Uppsala, divided into three performance levels based on annual turnover. The interview questions were designed based on the theoretical framework. Results and Conclusion: The conclusion shows that different leadership styles within HRM affect real estate agents' performance. Soft HRM, emphasizing employee well-being, is particularly effective at lower performance levels. Hard HRM, focusing on structured development processes and reward systems, increases productivity at all levels, especially among high-performing agents. Thesis Contribution: The study contributes to business administration by focusing on practical leadership and the relationships between leadership actions and real estate agents' performance. This can inspire the development of leadership within real estate companies to improve employee performance, increase turnover, and create a safe work environment. Suggestions for Further Research: A quantitative study with more respondents and exploration of different geographic areas, industries, performance measures, and cultural influences on HRM strategies would be highly interesting to explore.
