    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    KECAKAPAN MEMBUAT MODEL MATEMATIS DAN DAYA JUANG PRODUKTIF SISWA KELAS VIII DALAM MEMECAHKAN MASALAH KONTEKSTUAL

    Pemecahan masalah dengan menggunakan matematika dalam berbagai aspek kehidupan sehari-hari mendorong pentingnya kecakapan membuat model matematis siswa. Kesulitan terkait aspek-aspek membuat model matematis dapat menghambat kecakapan pemecahan masalah siswa, khususnya dalam memecahkan masalah dunia nyata atau kontekstual. Untuk mengatasi kesulitan tersebut, siswa perlu memiliki daya juang produktif. Penelitian ini membahas tentang kecakapan membuat model matematis dan daya juang produktif siswa kelas VIII dalam memecahkan masalah kontekstual. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelidiki kecakapan siswa dalam membuat model matematis beserta kesulitannya, dan daya juang produktif siswa dalam menghadapi kesulitan tersebut. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah studi kasus yang terdiri dari: 1) tahap desain yang meliputi penentuan fokus penelitian, 2) tahap persiapan yang meliputi pengembangan instrumen penelitian, 3) tahap pengumpulan data yang meliputi pelaksanaan penyelidikan dengan menggunakan tes, kuesioner, dan wawancara, 4) tahap analisis data yang meliputi penjelasan hasil penyelidikan, dan 5) tahap pelaporan yang meliputi peninjauan dan penyusunan ulang seluruh tahapan penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam memecahkan masalah kontekstual, capain siswa pada umumnya hanya mencapai level 3 dari kompetensi membuat model matematis. Hal ini mencerminkan bahwa siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam proses membuat model matematis, terutama dalam mencapai level 4 dan level 5. Meskipun demikian, siswa memiliki daya juang produktif yang tinggi. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa siswa belum cakap dalam membuat model matematis. Guru dapat memanfaatkan daya juang produktif siswa untuk mengatasi kesulitan yang dialaminya sehingga siswa dapat meningkatkan kecakapannya. Problem-solving using mathematics in various aspects of daily life encourages the importance of students' mathematical modelling skills. Difficulties related to aspects of mathematical modelling can hinder students’ problem-solving skills, especially in solving real-world or contextual problems. To overcome these difficulties, students need to have productive struggles. This research discusses the mathematical modelling skills and the productive struggles of 8th grade students in solving contextual problems. This research aims to investigate the students' mathematical modelling skills along with the difficulties, and their productive struggles in dealing with these difficulties. The case study method was used in this research which consists of: 1) the design stage that includes determining the research focus, 2) the preparation stage that includes developing the research instruments, 3) the data collection stage that includes conducting investigations by using test, questionnaires, and interview, 4) the data analysis stage that includes explaining the investigations results, and 5) the reporting stage that includes reviewing and rearranging all of the research stages. The results showed that in solving contextual problems, students’ achievement in general only reached level 3 of the mathematical modelling competence. This reflects that the students are experiencing difficulties in the process of mathematical modelling, especially in achieving level 4 and level 5. However, they do have high productive struggles. Therefore, it can be concluded that the students are not yet competent in mathematical modelling. Teacher can utilize students’ productive struggles to overcome students’ difficulties so that they can improve their skills

    Salah satu anak berkebutuhan khusus adalah anak Down Syndrome yang berada ditengah sebuah keluarga. Keberadaannya akan mempengaruhi kualitas hidup keluarga Family Quality of Life (FQoL) tersebut dengan kondisi yang mereka bawa. Judul penelitian ini adalah “Program Pelatihan Orangtua untuk Pemerolehan Bahasa Pertama Anak Down Syndrome”. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merumuskan program pelatihan orangtua dalam mengoptimalkan kemampuan pemerolehan bahasa pertama anak Down Syndrome. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode Research and Development (R&D) dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui wawancara dan observasi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah tiga keluarga yang terdiri dari dua keluarga informan utama dan satu keluarga untuk uji keterlaksanaan program. Data diolah dengan melakukan analisis isi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) kondisi kemampuan pemerolehan bahasa anak dipengaruhi oleh lingkungan micrositemnya (2) pemahaman orangtua terhadap kondisi anak mempengaruhi intervensi terhadap hambatan perkembangannya (3) dimensi FQoL yang ada pada keluarga dapat mewujudkan kualitas hidup keluarga terutama anak (4) perlunya kerjasama ahli bidang layanan bagi anak berkebutuhan khusus untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan pemahaman orantua dalam intervensi dini anak berkebutuhan khusus. Berdasarkan hal tersebut diatas maka sangat diperlukan usaha-usaha peningkatan FQoL pada keluarga dan saran-saran dalam penelitian ini berupa anjuran yang ditujukan pada orangtua, ahli dalam bidang anak berkebutuhan khusus dan peneliti selanjutnya. Program yang dikembangkan berdasarkan konsep FQoL ini dapat menjadi referensi bagi keluarga yang memiliki anak Down Syndrome dalam mengintervensi hambatan kemampuan pemerolehan bahasa pertama anak

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

    PENGARUH PENAMBAHAN TEPUNG CANGKANG TELUR AYAM TERHADAP KARAKTERISTIK PERMEN JELLY JAMBU BIJI (Psidium guajava.L)

    Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan jumlah penambahan tepung cangkang telur yang tepat terhadap karakteristik terbaik permen jelly jambu biji dan untuk mengetahui bagaimana penerimaan konsumen. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) terdiri atas 5 perlakuan dan 3 ulangan konsentrasi penambahan tepung cangkang telur (0%, 0,5%, 1%, 1,5% dan 2%). Pengamatan permen jelly jambu biji meliputi pH, kadar air, kadar abu, vitamin C, gula reduksi , sakarosa, kalsium, angka lempeng total dan organoleptik. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa perbedaan jumlah penambahan tepung cangkang telur terhadap permen jelly jambu biji berpengaruh nyata terhadap pH, kadar air, vitamin C, gula reduksi, sakarosa, dan kalsium, namun tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap kadar abu. Hasil terbaik adalah permen jelly jambu biji dengan penambahan 0,5% tepung cangkang telur, dengan kadar kalsium 0,22%, kadar air 14,15%, kadar abu 2,40%,kandungan vitamin C 35,38 mg/100g, kadar gula reduksi 14,02%, kadar sakarosa 34,56%,dan angka lempeng total 2,5 x 103 CFU/g. Perlakuan tersebut juga menghasilkan nilai penerimaan panelis tertinggi (terutama dari parameter rasa) pada uji organoleptik.
