Racial Discrimination in Boaz Yakin's Remember The Titans (2000) : A Marxist Approach
The major problem of this study is to reveal the racial discrimination in Remember the Titans (2000) movie. The objective of this study is to analyze the movie based on its structural elements and based on Marxist approach.
In analyzing Remember the Titans (2000), the writer uses qualitative method and Marxist approach. The object of the study is the theme that is played by the all characters in Remember the Titans movie published in 2000, written, co-produced, and co-edited by Boaz Yakin. The primary data source is the script, and the secondary data sources are the other data related to the analysis such as the author‟s biography and some reference books. The method of data collection is library research by collecting and recording both of the primary and secondary data. The technique of data analysis used in this study is descriptive analysis.
The findings of the study show that. First, Remember the Titans Movie illustrates the racial discrimination to the black people, the condition of aristocracy and lower or working class. This different stratification creates a problem, that is the gap between them and the insulation to the lower rank by the higher one. The social relation have to hold on the equal rank of both sides, between men and women and this condition needs to be criticized further.Second Boaz Yakin in this movie “reconstructs” or re-presents the social condition at Virginia in 1971 a in order to reflect a similar issue of social relation and at the same time criticizes it. He tries to bridge the gap between the higher and the lower levels of social class by rebelling against the social stratification. The break of the stratification is symbolized in the love affair between the major characters
Reading Ruth : towards a postmodernist, literary and womanist analysis
Bibliography: leaves 132-140.This dissertation examines the book of Ruth from a postmodemist, literary and womanist perspective. The main methodology is postmodemist literary criticism, but it employs intertextual and autobiographical approaches as well. Chapter 1 is an exploration of the plot of Ruth and reveals that in order for the end goal of the plot to be achieved "emptiness has to return to fullness." It is shown that Ruth's action (her decision to return with Naomi) is the catalyst that begins the process that ultimately leads to the denouement of the plot. The fact that it is the two women, Ruth and Naomi, who drive the plot forward, indicates that the Book of Ruth is a woman's story. Chapter 2 demonstrates that the significance of narrative time for any literary analysis lies in the fact that the amount of time allowed for the retelling of the events rarely corresponds to the time it took for the events to happen. Since Ruth is a short story, the choice of what to tell, what to omit as well as how long to dwell on details are indeed significant. In other words it is shown that literary time is only spent on those aspects which are crucial for the advancement of the narrative. Since the reader's main goal is to see how the conflicts are resolved, the literary time spent on the resolution of the conflicts is an indication of where the weight of the story needs to lie. In this case, it is certainly with Ruth and Naomi judging from the amount of time spent on dialogues between the two women. They are therefore the ones that contribute to the resolution of the conflicts of the plot. Chapter 3 reveals that in the book of Ruth the narrative voice or the perspective of attitudes, conceptions and worldview are those of a woman. The fact that the book of Ruth is named after a woman; the fact that at the very outset all the males in the story die and it is the women that take over the narrative; the fact that in the end the women of Bethlehem declare that Ruth is better to Naomi than seven sons are just some of the reasons that substantiate the argument that the narrative voice in the book of Ruth was that of a woman. It is also shown that this narrative voice (whether overt or covert) subverts gender and ethnic expectations. Chapter 4 outlines the way in which biblical characters are portrayed. The subsections of chapter 4 deal with the characterisation of each major character: Naomi, Boaz, and Ruth. Chapter 4 is the longest chapter since it is difficult to evaluate characterisation without engaging the other facets of literary criticism as well, such as plot and dialogue

Can Enterprise Microblogging Replace Email?
Over the past few years, microblogging has become an integral part of business communication, following the increased popularity and reliance on social networks in daily life. Previous research on microblogging platforms has mainly focused on the blog itself or bloggers, but there is little research on the role of microblogging in streamlining business processes and improving productivity. The objective of this research is to attain a more thorough understanding of the benefits of intra-office microblogging as compared to other modern methods of communication, especially email, by analyzing the differences in user interface, knowledge and task management, and facilitating dialogue.
This paper presents the findings of a qualitative study between microblogging and email, paying close attention the behaviors and needs of platform users. The author intends to demonstrate the ways in which microblogging is superior to email in terms of productivity, and can even improve upon intra-office communication. The theoretical framework will be based on the concept of Enterprise 2.0, or the use of emergent social software platforms within companies. This paper will compare microblogging and email as intra-office communication with the three principles of Web 2.0 technology in Enterprise 2.0: simple and flexible platforms of self-expression, customizable platform structure, and easy message management. The findings will assist executives, managers and employees understand how workers are likely to use microblogging in an enterprise
TIGA SYARAT PENEBUSAN BOAS BAGI RUT DAN RELEVANSINYA DENGAN PENEBUSAN YESUS KRISTUS BAGI ORANG PERCAYA DITENGAH MASYARAKAT TRADISIONAL (ARKHAIK)
Abstract:This paper wants to provide an explanation of the redemption that Boaz made
for Ruth and its relationship with Christ's redemption for believers. Like Boaz, Christ is the only
person who has the right, power and love to free and redeem His people from sin. Through the
understanding that the author builds in this paper, it should help to further understand that the
gift of salvation can only be obtained by faith and not by action, especially when we seek
salvation based on myths and symbols of mortal worldly objects
Governance and economic growth
Because protection of property rights cannot be appropriated by any individual, it is widely recognized as being the state's responsibility. Moreover, recent empirical evidence suggests that protection of property rights leads to higher investment levels and faster growth. The extent of property rights protection differs significantly across countries. The author integrates the emergence of property rights within a simple growth framework. Drawing on North (1990), he presents a model where economic performance and enforcement of property rights may reinforce each other.Initial conditions determine the economy's convergence to a high-income or a low-income steady state. Existing empirical evidence offers tentative support for this theory.Judicial System Reform,Labor Policies,Economic Theory&Research,Environmental Economics&Policies,Common Property Resource Development,Economic Theory&Research,Inequality,Common Property Resource Development,Environmental Economics&Policies,Governance Indicators
The end of monofunctional retail areas: Towards a more resilient mixed use area and bring back urban quality
Changing consumer shopping trends in the last two decades and the impact of COVID-19 in 2020-2021, has led to more structural vacancy in supportive monofunctional retail areas. Since supportive monofunctional retail areas are less resilient on the long term compared to retail areas in city centres, integrated redevelopment of such areas is required to prevent further decay and add new value. Dutch municipalities majorly rely on market forces to stimulate redevelopment. Nevertheless, this does not result in desired outcomes. Different researches conclude that the local municipality has to fulfil a leading role in this redevelopment in order to achieve the desired outcome. This research focusses on how this leading role is defined and how the corporation between the local municipality and private property owners can be improved. Therefore, the following research question is formulated; How can the municipal leading role be defined during the redevelopment initiating phase and what improvements can be made in the decision-making process between the municipality and private property owners of retail space for the redevelopment to mixed-use areas? This research consists of a literature research and an empirical research to answer this question. The literature research provides an investigation of the initiative phase of project development, possibilities in organisational structures and the definition of decision-making. The empirical research consist of a case study considering a decaying monofunctional retail area with redevelopment in prospect. Stakeholder interviews are used as the main data source to investigate the project approach, organisational structure and decision-making process between the municipality and private property owners. The most important finding is that a key element of the municipal leading role was the proactive approach to the development of a masterplan for the case area in order to stimulate private stakeholder involvement.Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences | Building Technolog
Trajectory Optimization for Autonomous Navigation in Dynamic Environments
Motion planning for Autonomous Ground Vehicles (AGVs) in dynamic environments is an extensively studied and complex problem. State of the art methods provide approximate solutions that make conservative assumptions to provide safety and feasibility. We aim to outperform current methods by following a trajectory optimization-based approach, providing a Local Model Predictive Contouring Control framework. Our method allows AGVs to execute reactive motion while tracking a locally parametrized reference path, anticipating on the predicted evolution of the environment. Given the static environment configuration in an occupancy grid map and dynamic obstacles represented by ellipses, we formulate explicit collision avoidance constraints. Well-informed planning decisions are made through a cost function with trade-offs between competing performance variables such as tracking accuracy, maintaining the reference velocity, and clearance from obstacles. An efficient implementation of the method is presented that satisfies the real-time constraint of online navigation tasks. Furthermore, we present an implementation of a complete navigation system to emphasize our ability to deal with real sensor data and onboard processing. We show that the general definition of the framework applies to both unicycle and bicycle kinematic models, commonly used to represent mobile robots and autonomous cars, respectively. Simulation results for a car and experimental results with a mobile robot show that our method is a feasible and scalable approach. Proposed improvements of the method include 1) considering obstacle velocities and positioning with respect to the AGV in the penalty term that creates clearance, 2) incorporating prediction uncertainty of obstacles, and 3) improving our method that deals with infeasible solutions of the optimal control problem.Electrical Engineering | Embedded SystemsMechanical Engineering | Systems and Contro
Confronting the Norwegian Paradox: Decomposing socio-territorial conflicts through modern and indigenous worldviews on time and space in Finnmark, Norway
The thesis describes the development of the oil and gas industry in Arctic Norway. This sudden increase in wealth is causing urban developments and strong inequalities across different scales. Furthermore, it is causing friction between indigenous Sámi and non-indigenous worldviews, sustained within the culturally fragile county of Finnmark. The role of the Norwegian state is notably dubious - both historically and presently – by instating policies aimed at development through a modern lens and wealth from oil and gas extraction – especially in the city of Hammerfest. The fixation of space through this concept is disinheriting indigenous people as well as the climate, landscape and socio-economic state of Finnmark. Reindeer herders have a different conceptualization of time and space, accumulated through centuries of observation and adaptions to the seasonal cycles, and is highly dependent on the flexibility for their herds. Conflicts arise due to increasing urbanization impeding Sámi movement, creating a socio-territorial paradox. Strong uncertainties arise: will the oil and gas industry continue as planned by the Norwegian state? How does this relate to the vulnerable path-dependent relationship with the fossil industry in the future? Will development on the mainland further impede the ability of traditional practices? Through an understanding of different temporalities within urban planning and indigenous herding knowledge, the argument of the thesis unfolds over an in-depth spatiotemporal and on-site analysis of the island of Kvaløya. I argue that the triangulation of spatial modeling, research by design, cinematographic strategies and the integration of indigenous knowledge can help in improving the agency of mapping. I argue that the we should look more critically at the role of the modus operandi of urbanists and decision-makers, in their capacity of influencing and shaping the conceptual framework on which decision making is based, especially in the highly uncertain and contested territories. The thesis then moves towards a possible way forward by integrating the (indigenous) knowledge into scenario construction through transtemporal and transscalar mapping and 3d modelling. I end by arguing that the incorporation of both practical and conceptual knowledge of the territory and the ability to share and communicate this knowledge between academics, practitioners and stakeholders is critical to confront this uncertainty. The flexible and adaptive knowledge of indigenous people could therefore help into planning and decision-making processes. This will help to foster trust and build consensus among indigenous and non-indigenous participants for future decision-making. Ultimately it is a tool for (co-)creating awareness, action and allowing space for Sámi agency.Transitional TerritoriesArchitecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences | Urbanis
