Humans will try to decide the best choice in life. But in reality, humans often face indecision in determining which decision is good or bad, which in turn triggers inner conflict within themselves. Inner conflict often occurs in everyone, the simplest example is when someone wants to continue sleeping in the morning but he realizes he has to get up and go to work. If he chooses to sleep he will be late for work, if he chooses to wake up he will work while still sleepy. In this case sleeping is called a pleasant idea while getting up for work is called an unpleasant idea. Which idea to choose has its own consequences. The author takes an example of inner conflict that is described in detail through a literary work in the form of a novel entitled Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto. The author finds the depiction of conflict experienced by a character named Yuichi Tanabe in this novel. The method used in data collection is literature study. The purpose of writing this paper is to find the form of inner conflict experienced by Yuichi and then which choice Yuichi finally decided when experiencing the conflict. Found 19 data containing inner conflict experienced by Yuichi, and 14 of them are choices with unpleasant properties. This is because Yuichi had a traumatic experience due to the death of Eriko, Yuichi's biological father who turned into a woman. In the end, the inner conflict experienced by Yuichi disappeared because Yuichi opened himself to the main character of this novel, a girl named Mikage Sakurai
Analysis of Amae's Behavior Reflected in the Characters of Mikage and Yuichi in the Novel "Kitchen" Works Yoshimoto Banana
Japan has a unique culture called "Amae" which describes the behavior of a person's dependence on others for attention and affection. This concept is explored in the novel "Kitchen" by Yoshimoto Banana. The research theory used is the moral approach and sociological aspects in the novel. In this research, the author specializes in describing amae behavior as reflected in the characters Mikage and Yuichi in the novel Kitchen and describes the lives of Mikage and Yuichi with the concept of amae. The results of the research show that amae's behavior is reflected in the characters Mikage and Yuichi and explains the lives of the characters Mikage and Yuichi with the concept of amae used by the author in the novel "Kitchen" through three sub-concepts, namely kuyami (feeling regret), toriiru (attracting attention), and tanomu (relying on oneself). These concepts show that good relationships can provide motivation and survival for the characters Mikage and Yuichi. In the novel, the concept of amae is a real example of how Japanese society interacts, influences and relates to its social environment.48 pagesSkripsi Sarjan

The relationship between insomnia symptoms and work productivity among blue-collar and white-collar Japanese workers engaged in construction/civil engineering work: a cross-sectional study
Background: The situation of work productivity loss due to sleep disorders/problems among workers in industrialized societies remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to clarify the prevalence of insomnia symptoms and actual situation of work productivity by job type (white-collars/blue-collars) among construction/civil engineering workers in Japan and evaluate the association between insomnia symptoms and work productivity adjusting for sleep duration and sociodemographic, work-related, and health-related variables.
Methods: This cross-sectional study included 17,828 construction/civil engineering workers (15,837 males and 1991 females) aged 40 to 74 years in Japan. The questionnaire consisted of socio-demographic characteristics, information on work productivity (work performance and absence), respective insomnia symptoms (difficulty initiating sleep; DIS, difficulty maintaining sleep; DMS, and early morning awakening; EMA), bedtime schedule, workrelated factors (job type, working hours), and perceived health condition. To identify the associated factors of work productivity, the logistic regression analyses were conducted.
Results: The percentages of workers who reported to be experiencing DIS, DMS, and EMA were 7.9, 16.3, and 13.1%, respectively. Poor work performance was associated with every insomnia symptom in both the blue-collar and white-collar workers. Meanwhile, absence was associated with DIS in blue-collar workers and both DIS and DMS in white-collar workers; however, not with EMA in both the groups. In blue-collar workers, engagement in shift work was associated with poor work performance.
Conclusions: The present study revealed the association between insomnia symptoms and work productivity, suggesting the necessity of early prevention of insomnia among both blue-collar and white-collar workers
PRESENT STATUS OF SEDIMENT HYDRAULICS IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
This description is based on the special lecture delivered by the author at the annualmeeting of the Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University, held on November1, 1958. The subjects presented here are due to researches on sediment hydraulics at theHydraulic Laboratory of Colorado State University where the author has stayed for fourteenmonths as an exchange research engineer, two meetings of Iowa and ASCE hydraulicconferences held in June and August, 1958 respectively, and recent publications. Thecontents of this lecture consists of the following items:fall velocity of sediment, laboratory flume, roughness in alluvial channels, sedimenttransport problems, stable channel, meandering of alluvial channels and localscouring problems. This description is based on the special lecture delivered by the author at the annualmeeting of the Disaster Prevention Research Institute, Kyoto University, held on November1, 1958.
