The Ta-T`ung Theory of Kang Yu-wei: Based on 『Ta-T`ung Shih』

    No full text
The religious meaning of Kang Yu-weis Ta-t'ung theory first appeared in the preface of the 『Ta-t 'ung shih』 . In the preface there is "at the war of the China and the France, I am so impressed and angry about the people's trouble so I wrote the 『Ta-t'ung shih』 ". The war strongly influenced the organization of the theory because it started from recognizing the pain. Kang Yu-wei regarded the world as pain, that is the endless suffering. The suffering world never ends and difficult to figure out. He classified the suffering into birth, life, rule, human emotion and class-status (人生之苦, 人道之苦, 人治之苦, 人情之苦, 人所尊尙之苦). He thought the cause of suffering as the boundary like a state, a family, a nation, etc, so he insisted to remove the nine boundary of suffering in order to bring the happiness to all the human nature. All the more, he shows strong emotion to save the people from pain and Kang Yu-wei's Ta-t'ung theory in a way contains the theory of the salvation. Ta-tung theory starts off with the realistic request but it develops into the realization of the ideal salvation after the theory blends with Taoism, Mojia, Buddhism and Confucianism

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Detection of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 spike protein by gold nanospikes in an opto-microfluidic chip

The ongoing global pandemic of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has led to active research in its associated diagnostics and medical treatments. While quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) is the most reliable method to detect viral genes of SARS-CoV-2, serological tests for specific antiviral antibodies are also important as they identify false negative qRT-PCR responses, track how effectively the patient's immune system is fighting the infection, and are potentially helpful for plasma transfusion therapies. In this work, based on the principle of localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), we develop an opto-microfluidic sensing platform with gold nanospikes, fabricated by electrodeposition, to detect the presence and amount of antibodies specific to the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein in 1 mu L of human plasma diluted in 1 mL of buffer solution, within similar to 30 min. The target antibody concentration can be correlated with the LSPR wavelength peak shift of gold nanospikes caused by the local refractive index change due to the antigen-antibody binding. This label-free microfluidic platform achieves a limit of detection of similar to 0.08 ng/mL (similar to 0.5 pM), falling under the clinical relevant concentration range. We demonstrate that our opto-microfluidic platform offers a promising point-of-care testing tool to complement standard serological assays and make SARS-CoV-2 quantitative diagnostics easier, cheaper, and faster

Kang Yu-wei is an extra special personage at the final years of the Ching Dynasty, he is on the cutting edge of the times and initiate the reform before the fail of Reform Movement of 1898, after that he insists the emperor constitutionalism. He was classified as old school because he opposed democracy and leaded the restoration of Ching Dynasty when Republic of China was born. Kang\ue2s whole life is making effort to save China so that it may survive. At that time, China was amazed by Western powerful and prosperous by reform, that makes Kang make the way by learning western knowledge, and the final purpose is China\ue2s survive, so he put stress on substance and economy. Kang\ue2s first contact of western ideology is foreign book that missionary translated, afterwards he makes friend with missionary by chance and gets more knowledge about western ideology , then he convinces Emperor Guangxu of reform and use the western ideology as the guide. After the fail of Reform Movement of 1898 Kang fled to overseas, that makes him contact foreign knowledge and system of government directly. This experience let his politics theory become completely and realize to save the country must be by substance, and then he started to practice his theory. All the experience makes Kang\ue2s western ideology become multiplicity. Kang is the forerunner who recommended western politics and learning theory to China, western ideology occupies an important position of his thought system. Under the bad situation of that year, Kang recommended western science knowledge and social politics system into China and that is become the guide to improve China forward, and the western ideology theory is essential factor of China modern history forward process

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
