In Part 1, Olaf Kaltmeier, takes issue with the state of social inequality in the region, highlighting the concentration of wealth within the upper 1% of society in Latin America. Comparing the current economic situation with the ancient regime, the discussion centers around the new phenomena like billionaires as president, increased luxury consumption, an emerging culture of distinction, and the intensification of land and spatial segregation. In Part 2, Lander urgently assesses the current state and political legacy of the "Pink Tide" governments in his essay "Crisis of Civilization." Reviewing the past two decades of the new millennium, Lander critiques the failure of these governments to provide alternatives to extractivism and economic dependencies. Finally, Hans-Jürgen Burchardt connects the arguments through interviews where both authors sum their efforts to open the issues to future dialogue.
Refeudalization in Latin America provides an accessible and thought-provoking political diagnosis from the Global South which departs from the oft idiosyncratic and cyclical debates of the Global North to offer new vocabulary for social change. Bielefeld: kipu Verlag; 2020.In Argentinien wurden die ersten Nationalparks in Lateinamerika etabliert. Zu denken sind an den Nahuel Huapi, die Iguazú Fälle oder den Perito Moreno-Gletscher. Die Einrichtung dieser Naturschutzgebiete findet in einem transnationalen Verflechtungsraum statt, in dem Ideen, Imaginationen, Menschen, Biota und Artefakte zirkulieren.
Dabei wird die argentinische Nationalpark-Idee von unterschiedlichen Ansätzen beeinflusst, die von der US-amerikanischen Parkpolitik über die französische Landschaftsarchitektur und preußische nachhaltige Forstwirtschaft bis hin zu internationalen Debatten zum Naturschutz reichen. Während Nationalparks heute als Hort der Wildnis gelten, ist die zeitgenössische Interpretation in der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts offener. In Argentinien hat sich eine Position durchgesetzt, die Nationalparks als „echte Instrumente der Kolonialisierung“ ansieht. Agrarkolonisation und Vertreibung indigener Völker, umfassende Programme zur Verstädterung und Touristifizierung der Landschaft sowie die biologische Kolonisation durch Lachse, Hirsche und Douglasien sind integrale Bestandteile der argentinischen Parkpolitik. Full text linkThis paper will explore how the parish community of St. Olaf in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, established in 1952, reflects the Roman Catholic Church, specifically at the local, state, and national levels in the United States. It will also discuss the various changes that have occurred in the past 60 years of its history in terms of the various locations of worship for the members, the growth of the community outreach programs, and the effects of the Second Vatican Council. This ecumenical council was a meeting of Catholic bishops from around the whole that brought reform to the Catholic Church and affected the relationship of the Catholic Church to the world. The parish at St. Olaf has grown from having only 125 families in 1952 to over 1,000 families in 2012

No full textActualmente los pueblos indígenas son actores indispensables en el espacio político de la región andina. En estas sociedades se produjo recientemente una ruptura en la larga continuidad de las prácticas coloniales que perduraron luego de las independencias bajo la forma de lo que se ha llamado el "colonialismo interno". El alcance de esta ruptura depende de la estructura política de cada país y de los acontecimientos que marcan sus destinos. Después, los movimientos y gobiernos de izquierda en Brasil, Ecuador, Bolivia y Venezuela cambiaron el paisaje político del continente. Estos proyectos nacionales se han vuelto un poderoso reto para los movimientos indígenas.
Este volumen reúne las ponencias del Coloquio Internacional "Etnicidad y Política", organizado conjuntamente por el Área de Historia de la Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar y la Escuela de Investigación Histórica de la Universidad de Bielefeld, en el marco del proyecto de investigación "Etnización de lo político, negociaciones de inclusión y exclusión en el espacio andino y el espacio sudasiático". Este coloquio, que es la base de la publicación, analizó la situación en la región andina, incluyó algunos apuntes sobre el movimiento afroecuatoriano y abordó los procesos de la coyuntura actual iniciada con la toma de poder de Evo Morales y de Rafael Correa.

Full text linkThe first national parks in Latin America were established in Argentina, among them the Nahuel Huapi, the Iguazu Falls or the Perito Moreno Glacier. These natural reserves are established in a transnational entangled space where ideas, imaginations, people, biota and artefacts circulate. The idea of Argentinian national parks has been influenced by various approaches, ranging from the US-American parking policy to the French landscape architecture and the Prussian sustainable forestry to international debates about nature conservation. While national parks are now considered a haven of wilderness, the contemporary interpretation in the first half of the 20th century has been more open. The notion has prevailed in Argentina to perceive national parks as “genuine instruments of colonisation”. Agricultural colonization and displacement of indigenous people, comprehensive programmes for urbanization and touristification of the landscape as well as biological colonisation through salmons, deer, and Douglas firs form an integral part of the Argentinian parking policy. Thus, the connection between nature conservation and colonisation will be examined in this book by asking the following question: How do national parks work
