    This book presents a broad spectrum of problems related to statistics, mathematics, teaching, social science, and economics as well as a range of tools and techniques that can be used to solve these problems. It is the result of a scientific collaboration between experts in the field of economic and social systems from the University of Defence in Brno (Czech Republic), G. d’Annunzio University of Chieti-Pescara (Italy), Pablo de Olavid eUniversity of Sevilla (Spain), and Ovidius University in Constanţa, (Romania). The studies included were selected using a peer-review process and reflect heterogeneity and complexity of economic and social phenomena. They and present interesting empirical research from around the globe and from several research fields, such as statistics, decision making, mathematics, complexity, psychology, sociology and economics. The volume is divided into two parts. The first part, “Recent trends in mathematical and statistical models for economic and social sciences”, collects papers on quantitative matters, which propose mathematical and statistical models for social sciences, economics, finance, and business administration. The second part, “Recent trends in qualitative theories for economic and social sciences”, includes papers on qualitative matters, which discuss social, economic, and teaching issues. It is an ideal reference work for all those researchers interested in recent quantitative and qualitative tools. Covering a wide range of topics, it appeals in equal measure to mathematicians, statisticians, sociologists, philosophers, and specialists in the fields of communication, social and political sciences

    Energy system pathway optimization considering market-based and geopolitical technology criticality

    Conventional approaches to studying future energy infrastructure requirements prioritize meeting projected energy demands using the most cost-effective power generation technologies. Standard planning methodologies often assume the availability of essential technologies and their requisite raw materials without considering potential supply risk. However, considering raw material supply risks is crucial for informed decision-making, as it directly impacts the robustness and sustainability of future energy supply. We present a novel modeling approach where the minimization of the raw materials supply criticality is integrated into an energy system optimization model as an additional objective. Two supply risks are considered: a geopolitical criticality and a market-based criticality. Numerical experiments are realized on a German power system for a 15-year time horizon. Exemplary results based on our multi-criteria method show that improving the criticality over the cost leads to a shift in photovoltaic technologies

    Indices of Collusion among Judges and an Anti-collusion Average

    We propose two indices of collusion among Judges of objects or events in a context of subjective evaluation, and an average based on these indices. The aim is manifold: to serve as a reference point for appeals against the results of voting already undertaken, to improve the quality of scores summarized for awards by eliminating those that are less certain, and, indirectly, to provide an incentive for reliable evaluations. An algorithm for automatic computation is supplied. The possible uses of this technique in various fields of application are pointed out: from Economics to Finance, Insurance, Arts, artistic sports and so on

    On Applicability of Model Checking Technique in Power Systems and Electric Power Industry

    The chapter is devoted to the analysis of model checking technique applicability in energetics scenarios. A review of model checking technique application taking place in safety–critical scenarios has been conducted. Proven and widely adopted TLC checker has been considered as an instrument for design solutions verification. To this end, the Temporal Logic of Actions and corresponding formalisms—TLA + and PlusCal—have been applied to formally specify the functional properties provided as block-diagrams. Power systems management scenarios taking place in electricity markets have been approached as promising problem domain. Stratified representation of standardized verification and validation process, with a pointed out place of model checking technique, has been provided. Communicating Sequential Processes formalism, Hoare Triples and corresponding rules have been applied to synthesize the formal specifications of safety–critical system functional properties. Corresponding stratified technique has been introduced and discussed. Electric power industry scenario has been approached as a case study. With respect to named scenario, two alternative variations of TLC checker—by way of depth-first- and breadth-first search—have been numerically estimated in terms of multithreading adoption
