Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
No full textThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Underwater acoustic networks: the FP7 UAN project
No full textThe EU-funded project UAN - Underwater Acoustic Network aims at conceiving, developing and testing at sea an innovative and operational concept for integrating in a unique communication system submerged, surface and aerial sensors with the objective of protecting off-shore and coastline critical infrastructures. A crucial aspect of the project consisted in the use of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) as mobile nodes in the underwater acoustic communication network. In particular, AUVs have the role of adapting the network geometry to the variation of the acoustic channel. This paper reports on the project concept and vision as well as on the progress of its various development phases. The recent at-sea successes that have been demonstrated within the UAN framework are detailed and results of the final UAN project demonstration, UAN11, held in the May of 2011, are reported. The UAN network was in operation for five continuous days with up to five nodes, of which three of them were mobile nodes. © IFAC
The Insider's Perspective on Sustainable Finance
No full textFinance solutions have the potential to play a key role in the transition to sustainable societies. The financial sector has struggled with multiple parallel definitions and standards for sustainable finance. In 2018, the European Union launched an ambitious regulatory effort to standardize sustainable finance and provide increased transparency for investors. This study investigates perceptions of the expanding EU regulations among finance professionals and motivations for the financial sector to engage in meaningful sustainability work. Data is gathered through semi-structured interviews. The study finds positive attitudes to the fundamental idea behind the regulatory effort but more critical views on its practical implementation. Profit-maximizing incentives are part of the key motivations for financial entities to engage in sustainability work. This provides both challenges and opportunities for policy makers to achieve sustainability impacts through regulation

Data Filtering and Control Design for Mobile Robots

Aristotle Till min familj Abstract In this thesis, we consider problems connected to navigation and tracking for autonomous robots under the assumption of constraints on sensors and kinematics. We study formation control as well as techniques for filtering and smoothing of noise contaminated input. The scientific contributions of the thesis comprise five papers. In Paper A, we propose three cascaded, stabilizing formation controls for multi-agent systems. We consider platforms with non-holonomic kinematic constraints and directional range sensors. The resulting formation is a leader-follower system, where each follower agent tracks its leader agent at a specified angle and distance. No inter-agent communication is required to execute the controls. A switching Kalman filter is introduced for active sensing, and robustness is demonstrated in experiments and simulations with Khepera II robots. In Paper B, an optimization-based adaptive Kalman filtering method is proposed. The method produces an estimate of the process noise covariance matrix Q by solving an optimization problem over a short window of data. The algorithm recovers the observations h(x) from a systeṁ x = f (x), y = h(x) + v without a priori knowledge of system dynamics. The algorithm is evaluated in simulations and a tracking example is included, for a target with coupled and nonlinear kinematics. In Paper C, we consider the problem of estimating a closed curve in R 2 based on noise contaminated samples. A recursive control theoretic smoothing spline approach is proposed, that yields an initial estimate of the curve and subsequently computes refinements of the estimate iteratively. Periodic splines are generated by minimizing a cost function subject to constraints imposed by a linear control system. The optimal control problem is shown to be proper, and sufficient optimality conditions are derived for a special case of the problem using HamiltonJacobi-Bellman theory. Paper D continues the study of recursive control theoretic smoothing splines. A discretization of the problem is derived, yielding an unconstrained quadratic programming problem. A proof of convexity for the discretized problem is provided, and the recursive algorithm is evaluated in simulations and experiments using a SICK laser scanner mounted on a PowerBot from ActivMedia Robotics. Finally, in Paper E we explore the issue of optimal smoothing for control theoretic smoothing splines. The output of the control theoretic smoothing spline problem is essentially a tradeoff between faithfulness to measurement data and smoothness. This tradeoff is regulated by the socalled smoothing parameter. In Paper E, a method is developed for estimating the optimal value of this smoothing parameter. The procedure is based on general cross validation and requires no a priori information about the underlying curve or level of noise in the measurements

No full textFeatures of the embodiment of the author’s position in the essay by I. A. Goncharov “Pepiniere” are considered. The relevance of the study is due to the poorly studied poetics of this work. A review of the scientific literature on relevant topics is performed. Methodological and theoretical definitions are given. The scientific novelty of the article is in the fact that for the first time attention is paid to artistic techniques that allow to identify the author's position in the specified literary text. The author of the article grounds her opinion from the fact that, despite the dominance of the subjective point of view, other characters’ views stand out in the work. It is concluded in the study that the text of the work represents a biographical author and author-creator. It was established that the position of the author-creator is expressed through the title, epigraphs, which are quotes, as well as through different points of view, including the author-character, the author-narrator, the characters of the work. The author of the article dwells in detail on different ways of expressing the points of view of the author-character and the author-narrator. It is proved that the point of view of the author-character and the author-narrator can intersect, they are interchanged. The author's development of the term comic “point of view” is presented in the article
