Gapped excitation in dense Kondo lattice CePtZn
We report on neutron scattering and muon spin relaxation measurements of dense Kondo lattice CePtZn. The
system develops long-range incommensurate magnetic order as the temperature is reduced below TN = 1.75 K.
Interestingly, a Q-independent gap at E = 0.65 meV in the energy spectrum is found to co-exist with the
long-range magnetic order. The gap persists to a very high temperature of T 100 K. The Q-independent
characteristic and its persistence to high temperature hint that the gapped excitation may be manifesting the
excited state of the ground-state doublet of the crystal-field energy levels. However, the observed broadness in
the linewidth with distinct temperature and field dependencies makes it a nontrivial phenomenon. Qualitative
analysis of the experimental data suggests the possible co-existence of a local critical behavior, which is onset
near the critical field of H 3 T, with the crystal-field excitation in the dynamic properties
Admission as submission: Richard Rodriguez's autobiographies as an epistemology of penetration
My dissertation is a study and contextualization of the three ethnic autobiographies of Chicano public intellectual Richard Rodriguez, The Hunger of Memory: The Education of Richard Rodriguez (1982), Days of Obligation: An Argument with my Mexican Father (1992), and Brown: The Last Discovery of America (2003). Since the publication of Hunger of Memory, Rodriguez is identified as being against political programs like affirmative action or a “poster boy” for right-wing politics. I argue for a more critical approach to Rodriguez’s controversial role in Chicana/o and Latina/o literary and cultural studies. I explore the evolution of the author-protagonist, Richard, and highlight how his struggles are exemplary of postcolonial subjects negotiating their way through Americanization. Assimilation produces psychosexual discourses that I analyze as particular to a colonized subject’s identity that is ambivalently positioned as at once typically American yet always outside the definition of what it means to be “authentically American.” Building upon Octavio Paz’s “penetration paradigm” and expanding the implicit queer reading of la chingada and el rajado metaphors defined in Laberinto de la soledad (1950), my project articulates how the concepts of penetration, rejection, and ambivalence become strategies of resistance postcolonial subjects manipulate in pursuit of (in)authentic Americanism. Spanning the U.S.-Mexican border, Rodriguez narrates the location the deviant, brown subject assumes in historical and present narratives of nation formation. Rodriguez presents a colonized American subject who openly defends and explores various ambivalent processes of acculturation and assimilation. Instead of adhering to Paz’s notion of impervious national masculinity, Rodriguez narrates his experiences as prototypical of the life of a deviant and dark subject who acknowledges the benefits and losses of openly admitting to inhabiting ambivalent locations in culture. Recognizing the relationship nations and individuals have with their ambivalence regarding penetration and rejection becomes crucial because admission is read as submission in the epistemology of penetration that my project delineates. Through close reading the autobiographies of Rodriguez, I identity a subtext of desire; it is a desire for memory, for the creation of alternative narratives and alternative spaces for postcolonial American life and subjectivity.Ph.D.Includes abstractVitaIncludes bibliographical referencesby Christopher River
NCLB data-driven reform movement: Contextualizing data
Commentary on the article of Rosita L. Rivera Rodriguez, Leaving most Latino children behind: No Child Left Behind legislation, testing, and the misuse of data under George Bush administration, DataCrítica: International Journal of Critical Statistics, Vol 1, No 1 (2007). Rivera‐Rodriguez raises a series of important concerns for educators as it applies to the deleterious effects of educational policy in marginalized communities, such as the Latino population. To better understand the arguments the author places the No Child Left Behind Legislation (NCLB) within its broader context

Phenotyping in forage sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) plants in response to potassium silicate (K2SiO3) availability in the soil
PregradoBiólogoPotassium silicate (K₂SiO₃) can enhance sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) performance, but its effect on integral phenotypic expression requires further understanding. This study evaluated this response comparing a K₂SiO₃ treatment against a control, using a completely randomized design in an open-roof greenhouse up to the V5 stage. We measured morphological, biomass, gas exchange (IG), and chlorophyll a fluorescence (FL) trait, also estimating plasticity (RDPI) and phenotypic integration (PCA). K₂SiO₃ application significantly (p34% at V5) and markedly improved physiological efficiency (photosynthesis, water-use, photochemistry), while reducing relative root investment. Morphological and biomass traits were more plastic than physiological ones. The treatment also modified phenotypic integration, and PCA confirmed clear phenotypic separation between treatments associated with physiological responses. We conclude that K₂SiO₃ integrally modulates sorghum phenotype by optimizing physiology and resource allocation, suggesting potential for improving crop performance.https://scienti.minciencias.gov.co/cvlac/visualizador/generarCurriculoCv.do?cod_rh=000202042
Measurement of human body surface heat flux using a calorimetric sensor
We have developed a calorimetric sensor that can perform local measurements of the heat flux transmitted by conduction between a human body and thermostat located inside the sensor. The sensor has a detection area of 2 x 2 cm(2) and, in its current configuration, facilitates measurement with a resolution of 10 mW. In this paper, measurements of two healthy male subjects of different ages (24 and 60 years) are presented. We study the variation in the power dissipated by the human body surface as a function of time for a thermostat temperature of 28 degrees C. We also study the same power with thermostat temperatures varying from 24 degrees to 36 degrees C. Measurements are performed on three different surface areas of the human body: the sternum, abdomen, and hand. The ambient room temperature during all measurements was in the range of 22-24 degrees C, and the subjects were seated and resting. The results show that the heat flux in the trunk is much more stable than that in the hand and that the heat flux in the sternum is greater than that in other areas. Additionally, this flux is higher in the younger subject (42 mW/cm(2)) than in the older subject (35 mW/cm(2)). We also defined a thermal parameter that represents the thermal resistance between the sensor thermostat and the skin. The mean value of this parameter varies between 51 and 71 K/W depending on the subject and measurement area.1841780,682,361Q1Q1SCI
Assessing interactions among students geographically disperse during multi-national design projects
The new business model and global operations of many enterprises have brought new challenges
for engineers working in multinational companies. These new trends and the need of educating
world-class engineers with global competencies have opened opportunities for new educational
models to expose students to international experiences to start developing those capabilities. One
pedagogical activity used to promote global competencies is the participation of students in
multinational design projects, which is a problem-based learning approach in an international
setting, where students get immersed in the solution of an engineering design task while they
work in teams and collaborate with international partners. Consequently, a collaborative network
of institutions from the Americas and Italy has developed and executed collaborative
multinational design projects as part of academic experiences for their students. The main goal of
these projects is to foster international collaboration and to offer an opportunity to the students to
develop professional skills through international teamwork effort in the solution of a design
problem. However, a real challenge of this practice has been to create an effective interaction
among the students participating in this type of projects and to maintain the flow of information,
and student engagement in the project and in their learning. Therefore, this paper reports the
work related to an assessment approach used to monitor students’ interaction in multinational
collaborative projects. The main objectives of the proposed assessment tool are: (a) to evaluate
the interaction among the students (frequency, quantity and quality); (b) to determine the value
of social interaction in the flow of the interaction; (c) to determine the impact of interaction in
the development of the project
Internal audit model for the project area of the Rivera SAS dairy company.
Universidad libre- Facultad de contabilidad y ciencias económicas - Especialización de control interna y aseguramientoFirst of all, it is necessary for us to take the concept of internal audit as a reference and starting point, which is not another matter different from the analysis and independent of areas of a company, in order to generate improvement in the area of operations, added value products, fulfillment of objectives, to consequently identify, monitor and control risks, corporate governance. Due to the above, we take the company LACTEOS RIVERA SAS as a reference in order to analyze and establish an internal audit model, with recommendations suggested from a judicious observation, with which the creation of an internal audit area within each company is intended. company, and as this implementation with the passage of time is increasingly important for senior management, taking into account that this allows us to establish controls that account for the correct identification of operation together with processes that present high quality standards.
As a consequence of the implementation, the veracity of the product information will interfere in the fulfillment of established corporate goals and/or in the identification of improvement processes, risk management and decision-making aimed at achieving the expected result and established in indicators.
For the company Lácteos Rivera SAS, it is of great importance to generate a funding mechanism through industrial investments, such as the purchase of assets, labor, materials, contracts derived from new projects, this type of process generates a great impact on the within the company, therefore identifying the importance of optimizing controls in the project area. It will generate the benefits explained and give a clear vision of the correct implementation of the model in other companies both in the same sector and in other sectors of the economy
Characterization of number fields by their integral trace form
We prove that the integral trace form (the quadratic form obtained by restricting x 7→
TrK/Q(x
2
) to the ring of integer of a number field K) is a complete invariant for totally
real number fields of fundamental discriminant, we also study the relations of this invariant
with the trace-zero form and the shape of K (a geometric invariant introduced in [Ter97]
and studied in more generality in [BH16]), and give analog results for those invariants. As a
consequence, we settle a conjecture from 2012 made in [MS12] about tamely ramified quartic
fields of fundamental discriminant. Our method of proof is based on what we call Casimir
elements and Casimir pairings, new tools we introduce in this work, which are related to
(and generalize) the Casimir elements from the representation theory of Lie algebras. Additionally, we give an alternative proof of this conjecture via Bhargava’s parametrization of quartic rings.Maestrí
