Hashimoto, 1982 General Chairperson, Nisei Week Japanese Festival, to Jim Matsuoka, regarding Nisei Week. The Jim Matsuoka Nikkei for Civil Rights and Redress Collection includes brochures, meeting notes and agendas, publications, booklets, and other material related to the Nikkei for Civil Rights and Redress (NCRR), formally known as the National Coalition for Redress/Reparations. The National Coalition for Redress/Reparations was officially formed on July 12, 1980, and included members of the Los Angeles Community Coalition for Redress/Reparations (LACCRR), Japanese Community Progressive Alliance (JCPA), Tule Lake Committee, Nihonmachi Outreach Committee, the Asian/Pacific Student Union, and other members of the community. The material was collected by Jim Matsuoka, a founding member of the organization. Matsuoka also served on the board and was the treasurer. In addition to the NCRR material, the collection also contains event flyers and Day of Remembrance material. It was suggested that neuropsychiatric symptoms, the presence of antithyroid antibody, and good response to steroids were important for the diagnosis of HE. It has been reported that homovanillic acid (HVA) and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylglycol (MHPG), which are monoamine metabolites of dopamine and noradrenaline, respectively, are the possible biomarkers of neuropsychiatric diseases. We report a case of Hashimoto encephalopathy, in which we longitudinally measured the plasma levels of monoamine metabolites. A 52-year-old woman developed acute psychosis, and was admitted to the psychiatric ward of our hospital due to psychotic state, 6 days after a traffic accident. An extensive evaluation showed no remarkable findings, except an increase in antithyroglobulin antibodies. Plasma levels of HVA and MHPG were extremely high at 66.5 and 41.8 ng/mL, respectively. On day 16, 50 mg/day oral prednisolone was administered, which improved her psychotic symptoms. Plasma levels of HVA and MHPG decreased to 7.2 and 9.9 ng/mL, respectively, on day 19. After the temporary worsening of psychosis and increase in plasma levels of HVA and MHPG, the dosage of prednisolone was tapered and low-dose risperidone was started. Her psychiatric symptoms gradually improved and plasma monoamine metabolite levels decreased again (HVA: 17.9 ng/mL; MHPG: 7.7 ng/mL). Although autoimmune mechanism has been suggested to be involved in HE, neural mechanism and pathogenesis of HE remain unknown. Our findings suggest that monoaminergic neural activity might be associated with psychotic symptoms in patients with HE and plasma levels of monoamine metabolites might be useful as state markers. Neolepadidae Yamaguchi, Newman & Hashimoto 2004
†FAMILY NEOLEPADIDAE YAMAGUCHI, NEWMAN & HASHIMOTO, 2004 (AMENDED) Diagnosis: Eight-plated capitulum comprising two scuta, two terga, two upper latera, a carina and a rostrum. The large rostrum articulates with the rostral margin of the scutum, and the carina with the lower carinal margin of the tergum. Comment: The number of shell plates has evolved secondarily from forms with additional lateral plates. In the amended diagnosis, the family does not include Neoverruca and Imbricaverruca. Note that we do not here consider †† Litholepas klausreschi Nagler, Haug, Glenner & Buckeridge, 2017 as a member of this family. † Ashinkailepas Yamaguchi, Newman & Hashimoto, 2004 (Pleistocene–Recent) (three species) Leucolepas Southward & Jones, 2003 (one species) Neolepas Newman, 1979 (three species) †† Stipilepas Carriol, 2016 (Eocene) (one species) Vulcanolepas Southward & Jones, 2003 (five species)Published as part of Chan, Benny K. A Difficult Decision-Hashimoto's Thyroiditis or Subacute Thyroiditis? [Zor Bir Karar - Hashimoto Tiroiditi mi Yoksa Subakut Tiroidit mi?]
Subacute thyroiditis generally presents with pain in the thyroid region, fever, thyrotoxicosis and elevated markers of acute inflammation. On the other hand, Hashimoto's thyroiditis is most frequently diagnosed in the hypothyroid phase with positive antithyroid autoantibodies. Here, we describe the case of a patient who presented with clinical features of subacute thyroiditis but laboratory and pathological features compatible with Hashimoto's thyroiditis. The patient was finally diagnosed with painful Hashimoto's thyroiditis

Hashimoto encephalopathy as explanation of psychotic symptoms in an adolescent
Hashimoto encephalopathy (he) is a rare disorder with a great diversity in clinical presentation of neurological and/or psychiatric symptoms. We describe a case of Hashimoto thyroiditis with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto encephalopathy in a fifteen-year-old boy who was referred to a child and adolescent psychiatrist due to a suspicion of a psychotic episode. Patient recovered after treatment with levothyroxine and corticosteroids.status: Publishe
The Integration of ELF and Social Networking into ELT: An Ethnographic Survey
The aim of this chapter is to report on the results of a student ethnographic survey that was conducted at the end of a research project informed by Vygotsky's sociocultural theory, which regarded the integration of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) into English language teaching (ELT) via social networking.
The emergence of ELF is examined from a social constructionist theoretical perspective on second language learning, which considers the reshaping of English as part of the intercultural process that leads to the development of the L2-user's sociolinguistic identity.
A group of thirty-six Italian voluntary high-school students from Rome, Palermo and Messina were interconnected online by means of a wiki to create a community of practice (CoP) working on fanfiction cooperatively. Moreover, the wiki hosted a forum that was open to the fandom, which gave the project an intercultural dimension.
The student ethnographic survey that is presented here explored the respondents' subjective views of their experience. It provided: a) quantitative data concerning the use of ELF in online communication from home and from school; and b) qualitative data about the respondents' attitude towards the implementation of networked creative writing and fanfiction. Findings cannot be generalised to all learners of English, nevertheless they offer an insightful look into the pedagogic potential of innovative learning activities based on ELF and social networking
Feasibility of ultrasound flow measurements via non-linear wave propagation
Typically, ultrasonic flow meters assume linear wave propagation. Nevertheless, if the transducers of an ultrasonic flow sensor excite a pressure wave with a high amplitude, nonlinear wave propagation effects become significant. The appearance of higher harmonics increases the bandwidth of the received signal, which may potentially lead to a more precise flow measurement. However, the question arises whether the increased bandwidth can be used in practice, since the intensity of the 2nd harmonic can be 25 dB below the fundamental. One exploit of the increased bandwidth is to filter the received signals and to obtain two components: the fundamental and the 2nd harmonic. Differences between the upstream and downstream transit times are directly related to the flow speed, and these can be computed for each component of the received signals. This paper shows that averaging the transit time differences of the fundamental signals and the 2nd harmonic signals results in a lower standard deviation compared to the standard deviation of the transit time differences of the fundamental or the 2nd harmonic signal alone. This demonstrates the feasibility of using non-linear wave propagation to improve the precision of flow measurements using ultrasound.Accepted Author ManuscriptImPhys/Acoustical Wavefield ImagingElectronic Instrumentatio
