Ethnicity, voter alignment and political party affiliation - an African case: Zambia
No full textConventional wisdom holds that ethnicity provides the social cleavage for voting behav-iour and party affiliation in Africa. Because this is usually inferred from aggregate data of national election results, it might prove to be an ecological fallacy. The evidence based on individual data from an opinion survey in Zambia suggests that ethnicity matters for voter alignment and even more so for party affiliation, but it is certainly not the only factor. The analysis also points to a number of qualifications which are partly methodology-related. One is that the degree of ethnic voting can differ from one ethno-political group to the other depending on various degrees of ethnic mobilisation. Another is that if smaller eth-nic groups or subgroups do not identify with one particular party, it is difficult to find a significant statistical correlation between party affiliation and ethnicity - but that does not prove that they do not affiliate along ethnic lines.Wahlverhalten und Mitgliedschaft in politischen Parteien Afrikas ist nur wenig untersucht worden. Gewöhnlich wird argumentiert, dass Ethnizität als soziale Konfliktlinie das Wahlverhalten und die Parteienmitgliedschaft strukturiert. Da dieses Argument auf hoch aggregierten Wahldaten beruht, kann hier ein ökologischer Fehlschuss vorliegen. Die vorliegende Analyse beruht deshalb auf individuellen Umfragedaten aus Sambia. Das Ergebnis ist, dass Ethnizität tatsächlich eine Rolle für das Wahlverhalten und die Parteienmitgliedschaft spielt, aber keineswegs den einzigen Erklärungsfaktor darstellt. Die Analyse offenbart zudem eine Reihe von Einschränkungen und Qualifizierungen, die teilweise methodischer Natur sind. Eine ist, dass ethnisches Wahlverhalten und Parteienmitgliedschaft von einer ethnischen Gruppe zur anderen unterschiedlich ist, dass, wenn sich kleinere ethnische Gruppen oder Untergruppen mit keiner Partei identifizieren, es schwierig wird, statistisch signifikante Korrelationen zu finden - was indessen noch nicht beweist, dass Ethnizität keine Rolle spielt

Block components of the Lie module for the symmetric group

The block component Lie(r) B of the Lie module Lie(r) is projective, by a result of Erdmann and Tan, although Lie(r) itself is projective only when p {does not divide} r. Write r = p m k, where p {does not divide} k, and let S z.ast;k be the diagonal of a Young subgroup of S r isomorphic to S k × · · · × S k. We show that p m Lie(r) B = (Lie(k)↑ SrS z.ast;k)B. Hence we obtain a formula for the multiplicities of the projective indecomposable modules in a direct sum decomposition of Lie(r) B. Corresponding results are obtained, when F is infinite, for the r -th Lie power L r (E) of the natural module E for the general linear group GL n (F). © 2012 by Mathematical Sciences Publishers
The Avrunin and Scott theorem and a truncated polynomial algebra
No full textWe prove an analogue of a theorem of Avrunin and Scott for truncated polynomial algebras Λm:=k[X1,...,Xm]/(X2i) over an algebraically closed field of arbitrary characteristic. The Avrunin and Scott theorem relates the support variety for a finite-dimensional kE-module to its rank variety (where char(k)=p and E is an elementary abelian p-group). The analogue of the Avrunin and Scott theorem relates the support variety for a finite-dimensional Λm-module (using Hochschild cohomology) to its rank variety (developed in [K. Erdmann, M. Holloway, Rank varieties and projectivity for a class of local algebras, Math. Z. 247 (2004) 441–460] using Clifford algebras). Along the way to proving our main result we provide a new proof of the Avrunin and Scott theorem for elementary abelian p-group algebras which we are then able to generalise to the setting of Λm-algebras

No full textTCC (graduação) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro Sócio Econômico, Curso de Administração.O presente trabalho de conclusão de estagio tem por finalidade detalhar a rotina de trabalho de pré-desenvolvimento de produto da empresa Intelbras S/A. A pesquisa bibliográfica para a realização do trabalho compreendeu o processo de desenvolvimento de produto, desde o surgimento da idéia até a entrega do produto, bem como a importância do desenvolvimento de produto para que a organização permaneça competitiva no mercado. Abordou, também, a aplicação da engenharia simultânea no desenvolvimento de produto. Entretanto, a revisão bibliográfica focou nas fases iniciais do desenvolvimento de produto, do momento da geração da idéia ao conceito do produto. No segundo momento do trabalho, buscou-se coletar dados com relação ao nível de detalhamento da rotina de trabalho na organização, em que documentos foram analisados e conversas informais realizadas com os membros envolvidos no processo de pré-desenvolvimento de produtos. Com as informações compiladas, foi detalhado o fluxo de informações para o desenvolvimento de novos produtos na Intelbras S/A, tendo como base o referencial teórico e a realidade da organização. A rotina de trabalho apresentada foi segmentada em duas etapas: a primeira refere-se ao surgimento da idéia até sua aprovação pelo comitê de produtos da unidade de negócio; a segunda etapa corresponde ao conceito do produto ate a apresentação da proposta do produto para a diretoria da organização. Estes formulários foram apresentados a representantes responsáveis pelo pré- desenvolvimento de produto. A partir das sugestões fornecidas por estes representantes, o detalhamento foi alterado e validado
