In my thesis I looked through the history and works of widely known but hardly at all studied pelimanni and a collector of finnish tradition, Jussi Janka-Murros. For my thesis I interviewed a few people familiar with Jussi Janka-Murros and based the work on these recordings, especially on parts concerning folk music and his work on collecting the Finnish tradition. In addition, I looked through what Jussi Janka-Murros himself saw as his main work; the examination of Karl Fredrik “Ukko” Lundgren. Within these aspects I also tried to find out what kind of a per-son Jussi Janka-Murros was, short of being a pelimanni
Radiosketsin rakentaminen mainosradioon : Case: Jussi Kepuli -radiosketsi
Radiosketsin rakentaminen on monimuotoinen projekti, jossa tärkeää on kuuntelijan
huomioon ottaminen. Varsinkin mainosradiossa seurataan tarkasti kuulijoiden
ikää ja sukupuolta. Radiossa pätevät oikeastaan samat draamanlait kuin missä
tahansa tuotannossa, mutta huomio tulee kiinnittää myös siihen, että kuvaa ei ole.
Rakensin mainosradio NRJ:lle jatkuvan radiosketsin Vancouverin olympialaisista
vuonna 2010. Sketsejä on 12 kappaletta, ja ne kertovat olympiareportteri Jussi
Kepulin edesottamuksista Vancouverissa. Ideana on yksinkertaisesti se, että Radio
NRJ on lähettänyt harjoittelija Jussi Kepulin Vancouverin olympialaisiin raportoimaan
olympiatapahtumista. Raportti kuultiin joka aamu, NRJ:n aamupoikien
ohjelmassa klo 6–10. Raportin tarkoituksena oli olla hauska 25–30-vuotiaiden mielestä,
ja sen piti ottaa huomioon myös naiset, sillä Radio NRJ:n kuulijakunnassa
on suuri osa naisia. Sketsin hauskuutta lähdettiin rakentamaan hahmon tyhmyyden
ja epäonnistumisten kautta. Sketsien tarkoitus oli antaa kuulijoille erilainen
näkökulma olympialaisista ja saada kuulijat hymyilemään.Creating a radio sketch is a multiform project, in which it is important to take the
audience into account. Especially commercial radio channels monitor closely their
audience’s age and sex. In fact, the same laws of drama that apply to any other
production also apply to radio. There is only one difference in radio compared to
other channels: there are no pictures.
I created a continuous series of radio sketches for radio channel NRJ. The theme
of the sketches was the Vancouver Olympics 2010. The series tells about the adventures
of a reporter, Jussi Kepuli. This series includes twelve single stories. The
basic idea was that Radio NRJ sent their trainee, Jussi Kepuli, to Vancouver and
asked him to report what happened at the Olympics. The series was presented
every day in NRJ’s morning show between 6 am to 10 am. The purpose of the
sketch was to amuse 25–30-year-old listeners and women, too. Most of NRJ’s
audience consists of women. The content of the stories focused on the protagonist’s
stupidity and failures. The main purpose of the sketch was to present a different
viewpoint of the Olympics and make the listeners smile
Your Vocal Problem: Advice from Jussi Bjorling
In a rather unusual article which appeared in 1950, Jussi responded to questions on vocal problems; unfortunately, we do not have the name of the magazine in which the article originally appeared

Insect media: an archaeology of animals and technology
Insect Media analyzes how insect forms of social organization—swarms, hives, webs, and distributed intelligence—have been used to structure modern media technologies and the network society. Through close engagement with the pioneering work of insect ethologists, posthumanist philosophers, media theorists, and contemporary filmmakers and artists, Jussi Parikka provides a radical new perspective on the interconnection of biology and technology<br/

On practices of images and measures of practice: a conversation around two books on photography
This conversation between Jane Birkin and Jussi Parikka picks up on two recently published books, Birkin’s Archive, Photography and the Language of Administration (Amsterdam University Press 2021) and Parikka’s co-edited Photography off the Scale (Edinburgh University Press, 2021, with Tomáš Dvořák). The conversation focuses on some of the media theoretical undercurrents of their two books that feature the photographic image as a central part of both their interests, while also shifting to different aspects of institutional practices of images, including questions of logistics of order and enumeration
